Racers spend large amounts of time

and money at the track. The team

that wins consistently spends as much

time preparing as racing.

“KS1000” Go Kart Simulator The idea of the KS1000 began as many others

have by using what we had around the house. So

we grabbed one of our chassis and began adapt-

ing controls to it. This proved somewhat effective

although not popular with Melissa who didn’t like

having a large object in front of our big screen

TV. The solution, build a compact chassis with

everything built in from the game console to the

TV. We also decided we

needed something that

was portable and self con-

tained for our race

trailer. What we came up

with was the KS1000 Proto-

type.

Making it Real The KS1000 was developed to replicate our kart

chassis as closely as possible. This meant spend-

ing hours working on seating, hand and foot posi-

tion. Once we had the dimensions correct we

needed to make it feel real. We focused on pedal

feedback first, by measuring the spring tensions

and travels of our Race Karts we were able to cre-

ate the feel of the gas pedal. The greater chal-

lenge came in recreation of the brake feel. By

using a little common sense and many hours of

testing feedback from many racers we now have

the real feel of the brake caliper on a rotor.

Today you can find simulators in almost

every walk of life. We all know about flight

simulators, but how many people know that

professional truck drivers use multi million

dollar simulators. These simulators are de-

signed to teach safe

driving but did you

know it is also proven

to save fuel. The US

Military uses simula-

tors to teach tank

drivers and battle

field commanders.

All of these have one

thing in common, it is

very expensive and

in many cases impossible to train any other

way.

Ask yourself the following questions; How

much does it cost to run a single day of

practice at the track? How much time do

you spend preparing your driver vs your

equipment?
