It is with incredible gratitude that we thank Troy parents, community members

and our grant providers for their generosity and willingness to support our

wonderful school. Through the kindness of donors, Team Troy has been able

to provide valuable extended hours in our library, a Troy Tech and AVID mentor

program, and Digital Literacy Coaches for our teachers so that technology is

fully integrated into the curriculum.

The Wilson W. Phelps Foundation has generously donated funding to the

instrumental music program which has acquired an incredible new vibraphone,

an instrument resembling a xylophone which offers a vibrato effect.

Working together to benefit our students is a fulfilling and worthwhile activity.

Both the PTSA board and Troy Support Organization board are filled with

parents whose valuable time, resources and commitments enhance our

school, our students and our community.

This past school year was memorable as the Troy Support Organization(TSO) partnered with the Parent, Teacher, Students Association (PTSA) toform a cohesive, stronger alliance. The new partnership, Team Troy, has

already enabled us to embark on larger projects on behalf of Troy’s students

and staff members.

In collaboration with ASB and the administration, Team Troy purchased

$30,000 in student furniture for the 500 building hallways to create an

environment more conducive to student achievement. Team Troy funded

extended library hours for 2016-17 resulting in over 30,000 additional student

hours. They also funded Digital Literacy Coach (DLC) stipends for six

teachers in 2016-17 to help train other faculty in preparation for new

educational opportunities provided by the 1:1 Chromebook student devices.

While supporting our core values of excellence, lifelong preparation and

community, Team Troy has become critical to expanding college and career

opportunities for our students and a positive force in making The Troy

Difference.

They are looking for your donations as they continue to support student

programs (page 9) and work toward the future project of the Troy Commons

(page 10) which reimagines our Library and Quad spaces to support

collaboration, technology, relaxation and student culture.

Thank you for a fantastic 2016-17. The Troy community is looking forward to a

great 2017-18 school year!

team troy 2016 -17TEAM TROY takes the best of two parent organizations and puts them to work full force for our students. PTSA’s established programs, enthusiastic parents, and tremendous volunteer forces combine with the Troy Support Organization, the non-profit educational foundation and fundraising arm of Troy. Both groupsstrive to provide the best for our students, staff and teachers. Together, wemake The Troy Difference.

PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) has provided valuable programs such as Pathways of Hope, Art Reflections, PTSA Student Leadership and Warrior Wear. Parents across Troy have volunteered 3,860 hours last year at events including Orientation, the Troy Tech Mentor Breakfast, the Tech Fair, GradNite, Troy student dances, athletics, performing arts, and testingdates. Without the fervent support of parents, our school wouldsimply be a school and not a community.

TSO (The Troy Support Organization), the fundraising arm forTroy High School, is a non-profit foundation dedicated to providingfinancial support to ensure that educational programs are maintained, enriched and expanded. TSO works closely with theadministration to support the programs and needs of our students, faculty and school.

the year in reviewThe 2016 Fall Campaign: TOGETHER WE’RE BETTER

The fall fundraising campaign grew out of the joint effort of both parent groupsto capture the spirit of Team Troy. Working closely to create a new student andparent orientation experience, both groups kept the needs and priorities of thestudents in mind while creating a meaningful welcome for families during Orientation. Donations from the Fall Campaign went directly to benefit studentsin the areas of a Troy Tech Mentor Program, an AVID Mentor Program, extended library hours and teacher support through the Digital LiteracyCoaches Program. All students across the campus were supported by one ormore of these services.

In particular, extended library hours provided a safe and comfortable environment for students who remained on campus before and after school because of parent schedules or extracurricular activities. They extended ourcommitment to our hardworking student body. We look to continue and possibly expand access in the Fall of 2017.

The Holiday Campaign

The greatest characteristic of Troy students is their drive and unrelenting spirit to achieve. With that comes the willingness to work, play and socialize in almostany setting across Troy campus, including sitting on the floor in our classroombuildings between classes. We saw that as an opportunity to provide a littlecomfort and stress relief, so we organized a research team and raised funds topurchase new, comfortable lounge furniture for the 500 building breezeways.

Excitement was palpable when the new, soft-sided furniture arrived. Studentsimmediately migrated to the curvy, modular units and made their pleasureknown with big smiles and relaxed faces. Through Team Troy, the AssociatedStudent Body and Troy Administration, seating was purchased and installed inthe two hallways in the 500 Building. These efforts to create an environment forcollaboration, relaxation and technology support are part of a larger vision whichwill include the Library and Quad. Look for more enhancements to the 500 Building for Fall 2017.

The Troy CommonsRe-inventing the Library and Outdoor Quad

A national trend in Education sciences is the transformation of traditional library spaces. At colleges and high schools across the country, new teaching and learning methods require more flexible space where collaboration and team-based learning is the norm. The challenge is to preserve the essential services of a library with the flexible space requirements of the modern student. Team Troy has developed a senior faculty advisorygroup to guide this project, ensuring we deliver a facility that enhances teaching andlearning, along with some comfort and relaxation space.
