Brethren, The Sun and The Moon
The lectures of the Sun and Moon in Masonry can span an entire book, with respective chapters on how they are
tied to life, other entities, and the teachings of Man. The following are some exerts you might enjoy.
The "Sun" as the source of material light reminds the Mason of that intellectual light of which he is in constant
search. The Worshipful Master who rules and governs his Lodge is said to be the symbol of the rising sun in the
east. The sun, therefore, is the symbol of sovereignty, the hieroglyphic of royalty; and signifies absolute authority.
As the sun rules the day, so does the moon govern the night; as the sun regulates our years, so does the moon
mark the passing months. These symbols in Masonry are known as the "Lesser Lights".
It is this union between the sun and the moon that is so vital to understanding the life, death and rebirth of nature;
the sun rising in the east enlightening and ruling the day, setting in the west, and after the darkness, rising again.
The moon however can take away the darkness of the night, guiding people home through the uneasy dark night.
The moon (silver) represents fertility, resurrection and immortality, and is a feminine property. The sun (gold) is
masculine, and signifies the Divine spark of man.
The Sun & Moon cause Day & Night, which in turn cause all the “opposites” we experience (Light & Dark, Hot &
Cold, Dry & Moist, etc.). The Sun & Moon appear the same size in our sky, and both shine average 12 of 24 hours
daily―half each. The ancients knew this was no coincidence. By this chain of associations, the Sun & Moon can be
said to cause all the “pairs of opposites” we humans experience on earth.
The ancients believed that we humans, since we live inside the universe and not apart from it, are composed of the
same duality or “pairs of opposites” as the Universe. As above so below, they said. They believed this duality was
manifested in the perfect left/right symmetry of the human body. We have two hands, two arms, two legs, two
feet, two eyes, two ears, and so on—in other words, a sun half and a moon half:
Sun, eye, moon, and stars: These images are combined to describe God, whom the sun, the moon, and the stars
obey. The sun and moon are also to remind the officers of the lodge to govern the lodge with regularity. The Blaz-
ing Star or Glory in the center of the lodge refers us to that Grand Luminary the Sun, which enlightens the Earth,
and by its genial influence dispenses blessings to mankind.
Sincerely and Fraternally, Michael Rial

Greetings:
The summer is really flying by, and I hope this brief communication finds you well. I know we are all looking for-ward to a time where we can safely meet and enjoy each other's company. Hopefully that day will be sooner rather than later. I found a nice poem I'd like to share for your enjoyment: When you're feeling all downhearted, And life's hard to understand, Say, it's fine to feel the pressure Of a Brother's friendly hand. Just to know he sympathizes, Though he doesn't say a word; How it starts your courage climbing, As your heart is touched and stirred. With an arm across your shoulders, And a grip you love to find, How it makes you feel the bounding Of the hearts of humankind. It is just a little token Of an ever growing band, For there's faith and hope and courage In a Brother's friendly hand! -by Brother George B. Staff In the meantime, please remember that we are here to serve. If you or someone you know needs anything or is in distress in any way, please let myself or another officer know. I know many brothers are in contact with others and keeping up to date on their conditions (thank you to them). My email is [email protected] and my mobile is 303-590-4192. Reach out anytime.
I look forward to the next time we meet. May peace and harmony prevail.
Sincerely and Fraternally, Matt Link Sr. Warden

Greetings Brethren,
As we get ready to return to Lodge I am looking forward to seeing everyone in person again. I hope everyone en-joys their summer and are able to take some vacation time with your family. If you need any assistance please reach out. It may be a good time to review the ritual work that we will be returning to soon.

Sun City Masonic Investment Trust –Investing In the Future
When the Sun City Masonic Center was first established, a number of masonic related people contributed their
time and resources to developing the building and property. Part of their efforts were to establish an investment
trust to provide financial support for a place where Masonic related groups and activities could be conducted. To-
day, the Sun City Masonic Investment Trust is administered by 5 Trustees elected for individual rotating 5 year
terms of office by members of Sun City Masonic Lodge. The Chairman of the Investment Trust Board is Randall
Sturdevant. Members of the Investment Trust must be members of Sun City Masonic Lodge.
The legacy established 30-40 years ago has developed into a Masonic Center which is used by many groups and
many of us enjoy today. With the expenses of today, the Sun City Masonic Center is not self-sustaining and de-
pends on donations from the group using the Masonic Center and the proceeds from the Trust investments. The
proceeds from the invested Trust principal are disbursed periodically and no longer provide a sufficient amount to
cover the ever increasing costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the building and grounds.
The Investment Trust Board oversees the investments and provides, pursuant to the Trust Agreement, a quarterly
amount that is distributed to assist with the operation of the Sun City Masonic Center. The principal of the Invest-
ment Trust was established through donations and contributions by members of the Masonic groups using the Sun
City Masonic Center. The Investment Trust continues to need donations and contributions to maintain and grow a
Trust principal that will provide for the future operating expenses of the Masonic Center.
Individuals, or the groups, desiring to assist in enhancing the legacy or those who founded the Sun City Masonic
Center, are always welcome to make contributions and donations to the Investment Trust principal. Donations and
contributions directed to growing the Investment Trust need to be specifically identified for the Investment Trust and
directed for adding to the invested principal. Routine donations and contributions made to Sun City Lodge No 72
assist the Lodge with current expenses but are not used to grow the principal of the Investment Trust. Individuals
and groups interested in exploring the opportunity to make a direct contribution to growing the Investment Trust
principal should contact Randall Sturdevant at 623.217.9426 or

From the Secretary’s Desk
Sun City Lodge has 208 members. Unfortunately, this month I received notices about the passing away during recent
months of five (5) of our Brethren, which caused the total number of members to decrease (as did the average age).
However, growth-wise, we are doing well, with two candidates waiting for the second degree and one waiting for the
third degree. Additionally, we have five (5) petitions for membership (three by affiliation/plural and two for degrees).
Our average age is 69.8 years.
The Grand Lodge is allowing future meetings to be conducted, albeit under strict COVID-19 social distancing and wearing face masks.
If anything of importance needs to be shared with our membership, I will be sure to communicate it with you.
Stay healthy, Brethren!
Fraternally in Peace and Harmony,

Masonic tradition calls on us to aid and assist all distressed brothers, withersoever dispersed. While we are getting better at assisting our brothers, we have been neglecting our ladies and their needs. If any of you know of a sick or distressed brother or a Masonic widow in need, please call the lodge office at 623.972.2217.

Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter Activity Update
Electronic meetings have been substituted for regular monthly meetings and gatherings due to the various social meeting restrictions. Chapter members have been active using the electronic media to stay in touch and have activi-ties. Zoom, Google Hangouts, and internet connectivity have been used to keep everyone involved with the Chapter and State DeMolay activities. This use of virtual activity is part of everyday life for many of the members. Chapter members thank all those who assisted with the June fundraising activity at Barrio’s Pizza. Delicious food and a convenient approach to help with fundraising! There is a scheduled campout for the DeMolay Chapter members over the weekend of 24-26 July at Camp Raymond. Saturday, 28 August 2020, the Arizona DeMolay Foundation is having a Centennial Dinner recognizing 100 years of DeMolay. The dinner will also be honoring James Miller, Past Potentate of El Zaribah Shrine, and Donald White, Past Executive Officer for Arizona DeMolay. These fine Master Masons will be inducted into the Arizona DeMolay Hall of Fame. Tickets for this special event at El Zaribah Shrine are available through www.azdemolay.org. Contact Dad Dave Zaucha for more information. DeMolay is a Masonic youth organization for young men. To be eligible to join DeMolay, three simple requirements need to be met by the applicant:
+ You are a young man between the ages of 12 and 21; + You are of good moral character; and, + And you believe in a supreme being (all religions welcome).
The members engage in a variety of service and fun activities. Service events include working with adult Masonic groups and working in local community charity events. DeMolay members enjoy social activities with members of locally Masonic sponsored Rainbow Girl Assemblies and Job’s Daughter Bethels, as well as recreational events in-volving sports and electronic game challenges. The Chapter events and meetings are planned and run by the youth Chapter officers with guidance from the Dad Advisor.
Valley of the Sun DeMolay Chapter regularly meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 4:00 PM at the Sun
City Masonic Center.
Currently, local Master Masons serving on the Valley of the Sun Chapter Advisory Council include: Bryon Howe;
Steve Liguori; Matt Link; and David Zaucha. For further information about becoming a member of DeMolay or how
to become a member of the Advisory Council, contact David Zaucha at 623.236.6307 or
VALLEY OF THE SUN DEMOLAY
The Supreme Session is ongoing as of this publication, July 26 – August 1 the 100th year celebration and is virtual so that daughters from all over the world will be able to attend. Just follow the instructions that your Bethel Guardi-an has put out on line for you to follow if you wish to participate. August 1 will be the virtual Installation of Offic-ers. If you decide to participate, let your Bethel Council know by submitting information to us. The current timeline for us to hold in person meetings is set for September 8 in the lodge, and if anything changes, please look for the information or call the Bethel Guardian. The Daughters had held a coup of virtual games during their months of being dark – this was a lot of fun I still don’t have pictures to share with you at this moment due to not being able to socialize but as soon as we can do that we encourage anyone who is a Mason, has a Masonic connection, to please come to our Bethel meetings and support our daughters once we get back together. Stay tuned for future events & goings on within our Bethel.

PEORIA CHAPTER #59 Order of the Eastern Star
Marsha Young, GTE, Reporter
Oh my golly! The week of this writing is hot, hot hot! I hope by the time you read this it has cooled down, at least a little. Every activity in the house, even with the air conditioning working efficiently, works up a sweat. I feel sorry for those who have to perform tasks outdoors now. I finally went out for while to visit my sons this weekend and on the way to the youngest’s house, the temperature on my car thermometer at 5:30 pm was 117℉. When I returned home, my car reported 106℉ at 11:00 pm. It is pretty bad when the nights are the temperature it should be at noon! Thank goodness there are nine other months of the year that more than make up for our current misery! At least we have something besides COVID to complain about!! The Chapter is still in summer darkness, so no events are happening for August. Unfortunately, even Grand Chapter has been canceled until 2021. Many of us are keeping in touch via Facebook and others are actually using the tele-phone to communicate with each other. It is important to stay in contact with one another, no matter the medium used, since we haven’t met face-to-face since March. Please reach out to someone and check in. Maybe one a day won’t be too difficult a task. We still have reports of sickness within the Chapter, but we also have several members who are recovering from their aliments. We keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Please let Worthy Matron Crystal Thompson or Worthy Patron Roger Hall know if you need anything we can help with. Stay home when possible, social distance and wear a mask. Let’s all stay healthy and come back strong when we can.
Ad space is now available on the Trestleboard. You may purchase a business card
size for $120 for one year, or a larger ad for $200 for one year. (10 issues) Please
support our Brothers and Friends of the Lodge who advertise in our Trestleboard.
