F UE ERIGIDA COMO AL-minar de la mezquita entre 1184 y1198 por Ahmed Ben Baso que esel mismo que construye otros mi-naretes casi gemelos en el norte deÁfrica, concretamente en el Ma-greb: la Kutubía, en Marrakech, latorre Hassan, en Rabat, y la Man-suriah de tremecén. Podría decirseque son las tres Giraldas del otrolado del estrecho.

El alminar de 76 metros estabacoronado por cuatro grandes bolasdoradas que, según cuentan, podí-an verse a más de 40 km de distan-cia. La admiración que despertó laedificación de la Giralda fue tal,que cuando los musulmanes solici-taron, al tratar las capitulaciones deSevilla, que se les dejara demoler latorre, el infante don Alfonso con-testó una frase que ya se ha hechocélebre en la Historia: “Por un sóloladrillo que le quitasen los pasaría atodos a cuchillo”.

Los cimientos de La Giralda, quebajan quince metros desde el niveldel suelo están construidos a basede las ruinas romanas de Sevilla eItálica.

El cuerpo de la torre es de ladrillo,y en él se pueden ver cuatro grandespaños de sebka, paños de ladrillo ta-llado. En el centro del muro pue-den verse unas ventanas polilobu-

Cuando decida admirar las vistasde la ciudad desde este impresio-nante minarete descubrirá que pa-ra subir hay 35 rampas, y no esca-leras. Esto es así porque elalmuédano, el encargado de llamara la oración al musulmán, pudierasubir a caballo.

El segundo gran momento de laGiralda sucedió entre 1558 y1568. Con la ciudad enriquecidapor el oro procendente de Améri-ca, las autoridades eclesiásticas de-cidieron edificar un nuevo remateque simbolizara el poder cristiano.Para ello añadieron un cuerpo decampanas renacentistas sobre elfuste islámico y alcanzar 93 me-

tros. El arquitecto cordobés Her-nán Ruiz II el Joven dirigió esta re-forma. Durante esta transforma-ción también se instaló elGiraldillo, una veleta con forma demujer, conocida popularmente enSevilla como “La Giganta”y que,en realidad, es una alegoría deltriunfo de la fe.

IT WAS BUILT AS A MINAret for the mosque between 1184and 1198 by Ahmed Ben Baso,who also built otµher twin minaretsin the North of Africa, especially inthe Magreb region: the Kutubia inMarrakesh, the Hassan tower inRabat and the Mansuriah of Tre-mecen. They are the three Giraldason the other side of the Strait.

This 76 metre high minaret wascrowned with four large goldenballs which were said to be seenfrom more than 40 km away. TheGiralda was such an admired buil-ding that when the Moslems su-rrendered the city, they asked forpermission to destroy the tower,and Prince Don Alfonso repliedwith a sentence which has alreadybecome famous in History, “Ifonly one brick were removed fromthe tower they would all be stab-bed to death”.

The foundations of La Giralda,which go underground fifteen me-tres were built with Roman ruinsfrom Seville and Itálica. The toweritself is made of bricks and as de-coration there are four large sets ofsebka motives, or sculpted bricks.

In the middle of the wall there arelobe shaped windows overlappingwith Roman light splitting co-lumns.

In order to admire the views ofthe city from the top of this im-pressive minaret 35 ramps, and notsteps, have to be climbed. The re-ason was so that the muezzin incharge of calling the people to pra-yer could climb to the top on hishorse.

The second important momentof La Giralda happened between1558 and 1568. As the city becamewealthy with the gold broughtfrom America the church authori-ties decided to build a new top as asymbol of Christian power. The-refore a Renaissance style belfrywas added to the Islamic body andreached up to 93 metres. The Cór-doba architect Hernán Ruiz II elJoven was in charge of the reform.After this transformation the Gi-raldillo was added, a weather vanewith the shape of a woman, knownin Seville as “The Giant”, and re-ally represents the triumph offaith.

LA SANTA IGLESIA CA-tedral de Sevilla se construyó so-bre la mezquita mayor almohadede Sevilla del siglo IX. De la an-tigua mezquita se conserva elminarete, la actual y emblemáti-ca Giralda, campanario de la Ca-

tedral con cerca de 100 metro dealtura y rematada por una veletallamada Giraldillo, de la que to-ma su nombre. De su pasadomusulmán conserva, asimismo,el Patio de los Naranjos. Se de-cidió la construcción de la actual

Catedral, en el año 1.401 bajo ladirección Alonso Martínez.

El conjunto muestra a cua-tro heraldos que representan losreinos de Castilla, León, Aragóny Navarra, portando a hombrosel féretro del descubridor.

THE HOLY CATHEDRALChurch of Seville was built overthe main Almohad mosque of

Seville of the 9th century. Whatremains of the old mosque is thetower, known today as the Giral-da, the belltop of the cathedral al-most 100 metres tall and crownedby the weather vane called Giral-dillo, where it gets its name. Fromits moslem past it also has the Pa-tio de los Naranjos. Was then de-cided to have the cathedral built,in the year 1.401 under the su-pervision of Alonso Martínez.

Legend tells that when it wasordered to be built the Chapterexclaimed, "Let us constructsuch a big building that thosewho see it finished may believewe are mad". Today it is the lar-gest Gothic temple in the worldand the third largest of theChristian world.

The church has a structure of fi-

ve naves, the middle one is the wi-dest and the highest, and the cha-pels are formed by the supportingpillars. One of the most impor-tant aspects of its grandeur is the18-metre-high Main Altarpiecewhere scenes of the Old and NewTestaments are represented, withmore than a thousand sculptures,and considered one of the largestof all Christianity.

Inside the Cathedral is one ofthe wealthiest artistic treasures,its paintings. It has more than fi-ve hundred pieces which rangefrom 16th century to today. Theeighty Flemish stained glasswindows are from the 16th cen-turies. In the 16th century RoyalChapel people worship OurLady de los Reyes, patron saintof Seville and of the Parrish. It isa Gothic style statue of the 13thcentury which belonged to Fer-dinand III the Saint, who is ano-ther patron saint of the city, andwhose body lies at the feet of theVirgin in a golden silver coffin.In the central nave is the MainChapel with iron rods and pul-pits which date back to the 16thcentury, and the great Choirwhich was built between the15th and 16th centuries.

On the right there is a mauso-leum with the mortal remains ofChristopher Columbus. Itshows four heralds representingthe kingdoms of Castile, Leon,Aragon and Navarre holding thecoffin of the discoverer on theirshoulders.

E L ALCÁZAR ESTÁ formado por un conjunto de pa-lacios, por lo que también se lellama Reales Alcázares. Desdehace mil años ha sido la sede delpoder y residencia real.El pala-cio del Rey don Pedro no quedóterminado hasta el siglo XIV,aunque posteriormente se hi-cieron ampliaciones. A pesar delos añadidos que ha sufrido, ensu conjunto, sigue siendo unode los mejores ejemplos del artemudéjar.THE ALCÁZAR IS A groupof palaces an so it is sometimescalled Reales Alcázares. For athousand years it has been thecentre of power and a royal resi-dence. The palace of King donPedro was not finished until the14th century, though after-wards it was enlarged. In spiteof he reforms it went through itis still one of the best samples ofMudejar style.

PATIO DE LA MONTERÍATras atravesar la Puerta del

León, el Patio del mismo nom-bre servía de separación entre laciudad y el palacio; a continua-ción se encuentra el Patio de laMontería, en uno de cuyos fren-tes se alza la fachada principaldel palacio de Don Pedro I elCruel. Levantada en 1364, seríaampliada en los siglos XVI yXVII. En el segundo cuerpo deesta fachada, una leyenda en ca-racteres árabes, en alabanza de

Alá, sirve de contrapunto a lainscripción gótica que recuerdaal autor de la obra.

The Patio del León comes af-ter walking through the Puertadel León and it was used as aboundary between the city andthe palace. Next is The Patio de

la Montería. On one side is themain facade of the palace ofDon Pedro el Cruel. It was builtin 1364 and enlarged in the16th and 17th centuries. On theupper part of this facade anArabic inscription worshippingAllah is contrasted with a Go-thic writing remembering theauthor of the building.

PATIO DE LAS DONCELLAS

El núcleo principal del palacioes el Patio de las Doncellas,flanqueado por pórticos con ar-cos lobulados. En las paredes,adornos vegetales finamentetrabajados y zócalo de azulejos

del siglo XVI, que son de lo máslogrado del arte mudéjar. Entorno a este patio se desarrolla-ba, según la tradición árabe, lavida pública y ceremonial.

The main part of the palace isthe Patio de las Doncellas su-rrounded by lobe shaped arches.The walls are covered with finevegetable motive decorationsand tiles from the 16th centurywhich belong to the Mudejarstyle. According to Arab tradi-tion this courtyard held publicevents and ceremonies.

SALÓN DE EMBAJADORES

En el arco de acceso al salón,el lema nazarita “solo Dios esvencedor” se repite continua-mente en caracteres árabes. Laspuertas pudieron haber sido la-bradas por artesanos toledanos.La decoración de este salónsuntuoso es de tiempos del reyDon Pedro, excepto la cúpula,realizada en el siglo XV y res-taurada con posterioridad. Sor-prende la serie de retratos de to-dos los reyes de Castilla, hastaFelipe III, enmarcados en ar-quitos góticos, con sus escudosde armas y la fecha de su reina-do.

The access arch to the roomhas an inscription saying “onlyGod is victorious" repeated se-veral times in Arabic. The doorscould have been made by Tole-do craft workers. The decora-

tion of this room is from the ti-mes of king Don Pedro, exceptthe dome which was built in the15th century and restored af-terwards. There are a series ofportraits of all the kings of Cas-tile until Felipe III in Gothicstyle frames, with their coat ofarms and the date of thier reign.

PATIO DE LAS MUÑECAS

El Patio de las Muñecas, cen-tro de la vida íntima, es de unaelegancia exquisita. Las colum-nas se remontan a la época cali-fal y proceden sin duda de la yapor entonces devastada MedinaZahara cordobesa. Recibe estenombre debido a las cabecitasfemeninas en los capiteles de lascolumnas.

The patio de las Muñecas,which was a place of intimacy,is exquisitely elegant. The co-lumns date back to the caliphtimes and without doubt theycame from the devastated pala-ce of Medina Azahara in Cor-doba. It gets its name “Muñe-cas” (dolls) from the femaleheads on the top of the co-lumns.

LA PLAZA DE LA REALMaestranza de Sevilla, una delas mas bellas, antiguas y tam-bién una de las más significati-vas en la historia del toreo, tardóen construirse más de un siglo.

En sus obras intervinieron va-rios arquitectos hasta su termina-ción, en 1881 por Juan Talavera.El arquitecto Aníbal Gonzálezdio su fisonomía definitiva a lostendidos en 1914 y en 1928 com-pletó la casa anexa a la plaza.

Hay que destacar el Palco del

Príncipe (1765) obra de Cayeta-no de Acosta. Bajo él se encuen-tra la Puerta del Príncipe, cerra-da por una preciosa verja, obrade Pedro Roldán. Salir por estapuerta a hombros es la máximaaspiración de cualquier torero.

Bajo las gradas de la plaza se en-cuentra el Museo Taurino, su vi-sita es la mejor forma de conocerla historia de la Fiesta Nacional.THE BULLRING, LA REALMaestranza of Seville, is one ofthe most beautiful, oldest, as well

as one of the most significant inthe history of bullfighting. It to-ok more that a century to build.

Various architects intervenedwith its building until it was fi-nished, in 1881 by Juan Talavera. The architect Aníbal Gonzálezgave his own personal touch tothe stalls in 1914 and in 1928 hecompleted the annexe house tothe bullring.

We should pay special attentionto the Prince’s Balcony (1765)that is the work of Cayento deAcosta. Underneath is the Prin-ce’s Door, which is closed by a be-autiful iron gate, the work of Pe-dro Roldán. To walk through thisdoor is the most desired achieve-ment of all the bullfighting figu-res. Under the tiered seats of thebullring is the Bullfighting Mu-seum and to visit is the best fromof getting to know the history ofthis national festival.

Esta incli-nación constituye “un alivio”, cuandoalgún torero corre hacia el burladero,mientras que la res al hacer lo mismotiene que frenar.• En el museo taurino se pueden vercarteles históricos, cuadros y objetosde figuras como Joselito y Belmonteasí como un capote pintado por Pi-casso.

Lafachada que podemos ver desdela Plaza de San Francisco estásin terminar, porque al morir elarquitecto, como no había pla-nos, los escultores no quisieronacabarlo.An interesting example of theplateresque style. Habría que remontarse al año1923 para empezar a hablar de estaimportante firma sevillana, que na-ció de la mano de Juan ForondaManzanares, con un pequeño tallerde bordados y flecos en el barrioSanta Cruz. Sus inicios se basaban,sobre todo, y por la época, en la fa-bricación del mantón liso, que lamujer vestía a diario. Pero poco a po-co, y sobre todo desde la incorpora-ción en la empresa de su hijo, JuanForonda Blasco, fue introduciendolos bordados con vivos colores ycombinando los motivos chinescos,que procedían de las prendas de Ma-nila, con otros más de nuestra tierracomo flores. Desde entonces, la em-presa fue creciendo y continúa en lamisma línea, ya con la tercera gene-ración.

Actualmente, y evolucionandocon los tiempos, disponen de unaimportante variedad de mantonesbordados a mano y a máquina, velosy mantillas para novias y madrinasde boda, chales, foulards, echarpes,madroñeras, velos, mantelerías, tra-jes de flamenca, batas rocieras, picos,abanicos, castañuelas, bisutería,...

Tal es la calidad con la que tra-bajan que importantes personalida-des, nacionales y extranjeras, de la po-lítica y de la realeza disponen dealgunas de sus piezas y las han lucidoen importantes eventos y momentoshistóricos. También, el mundo fla-menco apuesta por esta firma parasus actuaciones e incluso para graba-ciones de películas y anuncios publi-citarios. Y es que los mantones y lasmantillas son auténticas obras de ar-te, que aportan elegancia a la mujer ala hora de vestir y con las que no pa-sará desapercibida.

Desde Sevilla distribuyen a to-da España y el extranjero, de formaque si el turista no puede llevar con-sigo alguna de estas piezas se la en-viarán con sumo cuidado y esmero.

Además de las seis tiendas delas que disponen en el centro de lacapital hispalense, Bordados Foron-da, conserva la primitiva casa dondeantiguamente se confeccionaban es-

tas prendas en la calle Argote deMolina y que podemos catalogar depequeño museo, tanto por la partearquitectónica como por todo lo queen él se puede contemplar. We would have to go back to1923 to ee the beginnings of this im-portant Seville business, which wasfounded by Juan Foronda Manza-nares, with a small embroideryworkshop in the Santa Cruz Quar-ters. The beginnings were based onmaking plain shawls that womenwore every day. Yet progressively,when his son Juan Foronda Blascoentered the company, he started in-troducing embroidery with livelycolours and combining Chinesemotifs that came from materialfrom Manila with other patterns li-ke flowers. Since then the companyhas been growing and follows thesame line after the third generation.

Nowadays, evolving with the ti-mes, they have an important assort-ment of embroidered shawls made

by hand and by machine, veils andmantillas for brides and godmothersat weddings, cravats, stoles, madro-ñeras, veils, tablecloths, flamencodresses, Rocio dresses, corners, fans,castanets, bijou,…

Such is the quality of theseitems that national and foreign ce-lebrities, from politics and royaltyhave purchased some of these pie-ces, and have showed them at im-portant events and historical mo-ments. The flamenco world alsochooses this company for theirshows and even for making filmsand advertisements. Shawls andmantillas are real works of art pro-viding women with a touch of ele-gance when dressing up.

From Seville they deliver to allof Spain and abroad, so that if tou-rists cannot take an ítem back homewith them, it will be sent.

Antes de entrar hay que pararse acontemplar la portada. El diseño deeste año está inspirado en la Plazade España, conmemorará el 75 ani-versario de la fundación ONCE, yhará también alusión a laHerman-dad del Rocío de Triana, que cum-ple su segundo centenario en 2013.Su "alumbrao" marca el inicio de lafiesta - el 16 a la medianoche-. Apartir de ese instante, toda la Feriase enciende, miles y miles de bom-billas se iluminan y empieza estafiesta, cuyos orígenes se remontan a1847. Todo el recinto donde se desarrollala Feria se denomina “Real” y en élse ubican las “casetas”. Estas, sumanmás de un millar, y normalmentepertenecen a grupos de familias, en-tidades, empresas y distritos – estasúltimas son de entrada libre-. Suforma es peculiar, un frontal deno-minado “pañoleta” y donde figura elnombre. Para embellecerlas se utili-

zan elementos tradicionales: enca-jes, telas, espejos, abanicos, ... Enellas se pueden degustar platos típi-cos como el “pescaíto” frito, marisco,tortilla de patatas, jamón, caña delomo, queso, ... regado de vino finoo manzanilla. Últimamente se tomatambién una bebida que llamamos“rebujito” y que mezcla manzanillacon refresco de lima y un toque dehierbabuena.En la Feria nada tiene que ver el díacon la noche. A partir de la una de latarde, el paseo de caballos convierteal Real en un magnífico y eleganteespacio. Caballistas perfectamenteataviados, enganches, amazonas...pasean por las distintas calles lucien-do sus mejores galas hasta las ochode la tarde. No pueden faltar las “fla-mencas”, mujeres vestidas con el tra-je regional, y que ofrecen una notade elegancia y color a la Feria. Todasllevan, además, grandes pendientes,flores en el pelo, pulseras,... En esta

ciudad efí-mera, dondetodo cambia, lamúsica que suena sonlas sevillanas y las rumbas,que bailan tanto pe-queños como mayo-res.No faltan las atrac-ciones y las tóm-bolas, concentra-das en la quepopularmente seconoce como “calledel Infierno”.Y cuando el sol dejapaso a la luna, la fiestacambia; las calles se ilumi-nan, todo se transforma y loque continúa igual es el alegre am-biente festivo.

From thismoment on the whole Feria lightsup, with thousands and thousandsof light bulbs and the party begins,whose originsa date back to 1847. The whole fairgrounds is called“Real” and this is where the “case-tas” are located. There are over a

thousand casetas and they usuallybelong to groups of friends or fa-mily, companies, institutions anddistricts, the latter are of free en-trance. The shape is quite singu-lar, the front part is called “paño-leta” and this is where the name isdisplayed. Casetas are decoratedwith traditional items such as em-broidery, material, mirrors, fans,... Inside they serve typical dishes

suchas fried

fish, seafood,Spanish omelette, ham, cheese,sherry or manzanilla wine. The la-test trend is a mix drink called “re-bujito” which combines manzani-lla with a lime soda and a touch ofspearmint.The Feria is divided into daytimeand evening. At about one oclockin the afternoon the horse drawncarriages bring a beautiful show tothe fairgrounds. There are horseriders who are dressed in typicalfolk costumes riding through thedifferent streets showing theirbest costumes until eight in theevening. Women wear their fla-menco dresses offering a touch ofelegance and colour to the festi-vity. They also wear large earrings,flowers in their hair, bracelets,…Everything changes in this town,music sounds with sevillanas andrumbas, that everyone dances to.There is also a funfair and rafflestands, all located in what is called“calle del Infierno” (Hell’s Street).And when the sun sets the festi-vity changes. The streets light upand everything is different, but theparty continues.

Llama la atención laforma de elaborarlos, que se puede ver decerca.

que designa al mismo tiempo el con-tinente -plato de barro decorado conla tapadera cónica- y el contenido -carne, de pollo o pescado y legum-bres estofadas- y el cuscus, que varíaen función de las regiones.

Al otro lado del Atlántico, Cen-troamérica y Sudamérica, aunqueestén influenciadas por las costum-bres españolas, cuentan con unas va-riedades culinarias propias y especí-ficas. En Perú, el cebiche es el platoestrella – pescado, zumo de limón,sal, pimienta, picante...- pero tam-bién lo son las papas rellenas, el ají y,como sobremesa, el licor más impor-tante: el pisco. Brasil y Argentina sonmáximas exponentes en la carne ysus parrillas y en Cuba, no puede sermenos aunque añaden a sus menúsingredientes como la yuca o la ma-langa. La guinda picante la pone lacomida mexicana.

En Europa, en primer lugar hayque mirar a Italia, que ha sabido bienexportar sus sabores. La multitud deformas de cocinar la pasta, sus salsasy su carpaccio son famosos por todoel mundo. Si queremos carne, unamuestra la encontramos en Alema-nia donde las salchichas y el codillo,servido con chucrut y un suave puréde patatas, conforman la carta decualquier menú. Y para pescado, lavecina Portugal, con su exquisito ba-

calao. Los vinos y los quesos siempreacompañan la exquisita comidafrancesa.

EL PAISAJE NÓRDICO EN EL PRADO. RUBENS,BRUEGHEL, LORENAEl Museo del Prado, la Obra Social "la Caixa" y la Junta de Andalucía co-organizan en Sevilla la exposición Rubens, Brueghel, Lorena. El paisajenórdico en el Prado formada por 36 pinturas de los más destacados maes-tros del género que atesora el Museo. La muestra está comisariada por Te-resa Posada Kubissa, Conservadora de Pintura Flamenca y Escuelas delNorte (hasta 1700) del Museo Nacional del PradoSe trata da exposición de gran importancia, tanto por la extraordinariacalidad de las obras que la componen y la categoría de los maestros quelas realizaron, como por la aproximación que plantea a las diferentes ti-pologías del paisaje que surgieron a lo largo del siglo XVII en Flandes y Ho-landa. También constituye una oportunidad excepcional para disfrutar deun recorrido por el evocador mundo del paisaje nórdico apreciando lamaestría con la que los pintores representaron con fidelidad montañas,bosques, campiñas, ríos, mares, parajes cubiertos de nieve o canales he-lados, inmersos en una luz naturalista.Durante la Edad Moderna, los italianos llamaron ¿nórdicos¿ a los pintoresde las tierras que estaban más allá de los Alpes y fundamentalmente a losde los Países Bajos. Allí, el contexto social y cultural hizo que, a lo largodel siglo XVII, pintores y coleccionistas se apartaran en gran medida de lostemas heroicos propios de la pintura de historia en favor de asuntos coti-dianos, pero igualmente aptos para la pintura. Entre ellos estaba el pai-saje, que pasó a convertirse en un género pictórico independiente en elque el asunto representado se relega a un segundo plano y se convierteen pretexto para representar con fidelidad los elementos de la naturale-za.Las dos tipologías más características del paisaje nórdico ¿el paisaje deinvierno y el paisaje de agua¿ están representadas con obras tan delica-das como El puerto de Ámsterdam en invierno de Hendrick Jacobsz Dub-bels o Paisaje con patinadores de Joos de Momper el Joven; y por pintu-ras como Playa con pescadores de Adam Willaerts y Embarcando en unaplaya de Bonaventura Peeters. Como artista fundamental destacamos aRubens, el gran maestro fla-menco, cuyos paisajesconstituyen la parte más ín-tima, más personal de suproducción. De ellos se ex-pone el soberbio Atalanta yMeleagro cazando el jabalíde Caledonia, una de lasobras cumbres del paisajenórdico.

In the Modern Ages the Italians called Northerners to those painterswho were from any country north of the Alps and mainly those who we-re from the Netherlands. There, the social and cultural context in the17th century made painters separate from the heroic topics which we-re more common in the history of painting and turned to more every-day topics. Among these were landscapes, which became an indepen-dent painting genre in which the topic represented goes to a secondplan and becomes an excuse to paint the elements of nature.

The two most characteristic types of Northern landscapes, winter andwater, are represented with works as delicate as The Harbour of Ams-terdam in winter by Hendrick Jacobsz Dubbels or Landscape with ska-ters by Joos de Momper the Young; and by paintings such as Beach withFishermen by Adam Willaerts and Boarding at the Beach by Bonaven-tura Peeters. As an important artist we must mention Rubens, the gre-at Flemish master, whose landscapes make up the most private, perso-nal part of their production. Este contexto propor-cionó a Lotty Rosenfeld (Santia-go de Chile, 1943) gran canti-dad de material para crear unarte que trascendiese los lími-tes de su represiva realidad. Alabordar la complejidad de la vi-da cotidiana de su país sin re-

producirla, Rosenfeld lleva a su público a esa oposición que ella sientehacia todas aquellas situaciones que violan los derechos humanos, sinimportar si vienen dictadas por generales crueles o determinadas porlas maniobras, muchas veces imposibles de distinguir, de una economíade mercado.La performance, el arte basado en los media, la fotografía y las instala-ciones en espacios públicos y privados son actualmente algo habitual enel mundo del arte. En cambio, en los años 70, cuando Rosenfeld empe-zó su carrera artística, estos medios se estaban desarrollando en losmárgenes. Al igual que muchos artistas cuya carrera empezó en la dé-cada de los 70, Rosenfeld se vio influida por el arte conceptual, por Flu-xus y por el legado del dadaísmo. Fue miembro activo de CADA, un gru-po interdisciplinar de artistas y escritores (Diamela Eltit, Raúl Zurita,Juan Castillo y Fernando Balcells) que se comprometió con la reflexióncrítica y el activismo en torno al arte y la política -una cuestión urgen-te, dada la dictadura imperante en Chile.Por una poética de la rebeldía muestra obras creadas entre 1979 y 2013,junto a una nueva versión de Una milla de cruces sobre el pavimento.Esta exposición abarca, por tanto, más de 30 años de práctica artísticarigurosa y explora cómo el arte y las perspectivas sociales pueden cre-ar contextos en los que el arte y la estética se unen fuera del canon tra-dicional.

At the end of the 70s Chile was a country under the rule of a militarydictator. This context gave Lotty Rosenfeld (Santiago de Chile, 1943) agreat deal of material to créate a type of art which goes beyond the li-mits of its repressive reality. When tackling the complexity of every-day life in her country, Rosenfeld takes to her audience the oppositionshe feels towards all the situations which violate human rights, nomatter whether they come from cruel generals or determined by themovements of a market economy.The performance, this type of art based on the media, photographyand installations in public and private places are in currently some-thing habitual in the world of art. However, in the 70s, when Rosenfeldstarted her artistic career these means were being developed in themargins. Just like many artists whose career started in the 70s, Rosen-feld was influenced by the natural concept, by Fluxus and by the legacyof dadaism. She was an active member of CADA, an interdisciplinarygroup of artists and writers (Diamela Eltit, Raúl Zurita, Juan Castilloand Fernando Balcells) who was committed to critical reflection andactivism around art and politics, an urgent matter, owing to the dicta-torship in Chile.

CENTRO DEL MUDÉJAR El nuevo Centro del Mudéjar de Sevilla abre sus puertas en el Palacio delos Marqueses de la Algaba con un total de 111 piezas procedentes dedistintos museos de la ciudad, como el Arqueológico y el de Bellas Ar-tes.Se exponen 111 piezas, de las que 20 proceden de la colección arqueo-lógica municipal en depósito desde 1940 en los almacenes del Museo Ar-queológico de Sevilla, entre las que destacan tinajas mudéjares, sellosy utensilios domésticos de la misma época que cuentan con un "especialvalor".Además, el Museo Arqueológico también ha prestado 44 piezas perte-necientes a su colección estable, entre las que figuran una Pila Bautis-mal donada por el pintor Virgilio Mattoni, canes polícromos del siglo XVprocedentes de la iglesia mudéjar de San Marcos, fragmentos de yese-rías procedentes del Convento de Madre de Dios, paños de arrocabe, al-mizates y piñas de mocárabes de madera de "especial singularidad".Por su parte, el Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares cede al nuevoCentro del Mudéjar un total de 19 azulejos que son "ejemplo" de las téc-

GARCÍA RAMOS EN LA PINTURA SEVILLANAJosé García Ramos (Sevilla, 1852 – 1912) perteneció a una generación depintores sevillanos formados en torno a 1870 por Eduardo Cano. Su pintu-ra académica de raíz romántica fue el punto de partida para los artistasde este momento, seguidores de un costumbrismo tardío que se conver-tiría en el inmediato antecedente de la pintura regionalista. El proyecto expositivo de desarrolla a través de la propia biografía del ar-tista en tres ámbitos y nos permite realizar un recorrido bastante repre-sentativo de lo que fue la polifacética producción de García Ramos no so-lo como pintor sino también como dibujante, ilustrador y cartelista.

José García Ramos (Sevilla, 1852 – 1912) belonged to a generation of Se-ville painters trained around 1870 by Eduardo Cano. His academic pain-tings were the starting point for the artists of the time, followers of la-te “costumbrismo” which would soon become the antecedent of regionalpainting. The exhibition developed through the biography of the painter is done inthree fields and allows us to look at the most representative works of
