the art kitchen provide a homey atmosphere
for dining.

a warm and welcoming private dining room,
or enjoy a game of cards in the activity room.

Fall 2018
Meet Bill Foussard BHS 2018 Trustee of the Year recipient By Kay Schumacher, administrator
Bill lives and breaths the core values of Cerenity and BHS and is an advocate for the Cerenity Senior Care.
Bill is a White Bear Lake business owner and brings together area business owners to engage senior services.in the area. He is actively involved in the philanthropic efforts in Twin Cities. He is an for Cerenity in appealing to foundations and private donors on behalf of Cerenity. His efforts have contributed greatly to enhance the lives of the residents at Cerenity Marian of Saint Paul. His concern for the staff and residents on our campus is apparent as he has taken an active role in ensuring that the construction is not adversely affecting people and that things are going well.
Bill is kind and respectful to all. He embodies excellent customer service and goes above and beyond for all. “One of my first experiences with Bill was prior to my official start at Marian when I attended a Board meeting our White Bear Lake campus. Bill went out of his way to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and valued.”
As a business owner himself, Bill understands the need for good stewardship of resources as services are provided in a customer service field. He is inclusive to all who he comes in contact with – this includes Cerenity, his own business, and the community in which he lives and serves.
Bill is the poster-person for hospitality. Meeting him once, you feel like you’ve known him for years and he instantly makes you feel valued. Bill goes out of his way to be kind to all.
Bill also hosts the most amazing annual Christmas event at his hotel in White Bear Lake that is specifically for seniors in living in assisted living and care centers. The event was magical! Staff and volunteers were all dressed up as elves/Santa, etc and treated the residents to a delicious meal, complete with gifts for the residents, and an evening of entertainment. The evening was filled with a festive spirit.
I watched Bill that evening work tirelessly to
ensure that the evening went on without a hitch. Local high school choirs came in to sing, members of the Winter Carnival royal court were there to greet residents, as well as many other local organizations. Bill was actively involved to the end, including the cleanup of the event.
The Christmas event alone shows how dedicated and generous Bill is to seniors and to the community. I have never been so impressed by someone’s leadership, generosity and collaborative spirit as I was that evening.
We are blessed to have Bill on the Board of Directors for Cerenity Senior Care. He is an amazing advocate for Cerenity and senior services in general.

RESIDENT Profile Joanne Darst
Joanne has lived in an apartment at Cerenity Marian for 10 years
now. It seemed a natural move for her, since she is a lifelong
resident in this area. In fact, she was born in Mounds Park
hospital on July 30, 1930.
Growing up in a Swedish family near Swede Hollow, living in the
Italian neighborhood, Joanne gained an appreciation for the
cultures who founded this area of the city. After graduating from
Johnson High School she continued to live and work in this
vibrant community.
She courted an married and east sider and together they began to
build their family home. First a basement, which became a cozy
starter home, soon adding additional floors upstairs. Shortly after
there was another trip to the Mound’s Park Maternity ward, for
the birth of their first daughter. Thus began the journey of
parenthood. As their family grew, so did their home, adding
bedroom after bedroom until they had a 5 bedroom home.
She and her husband raised their family together with neighbors,
Dick and MaryAnn Schuab across the street, and the Kotulas next
door. Both are now neighbors here at Cerenity Marian Residence.

Very Important Volunteer Mary Hudella By Jackie Bruns
Our VIP (Very Important Volunteer) is one that has
been with us since the opening of Marian…29 years.
She helps in any capacity that she can, i.e. special
events, sales, funerals, luncheons etc. Most
importantly Mary plans and plays music for Mass six
days a week, she also prepares the chapel, for
services, makes music selections and plays for our
weekly Lutheran service. Mary Hudalla is such a
hard working person. She is dependable and loves
to stay busy…she adds a spark to this campus and
weare truly blessed to have her as a tenant and
volunteer.
Volunteer needs—Eucharistic ministers, manicur-
ists, outing escorts, clinic escorts, 1 on 1 visitor

VOLUNTEER Profile
Volunteers breathe special life
into Cerenity Marian
By Jackie Bruns, volunteer services
“There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
It has been a time of change and very busy here at Marian. However, one thing remains
constant the support and participation of our dedicated volunteers. With fun summer out-
ings, moving residents to their new homes in newly renovated rooms, and stepping up to
assist in spiritual care, our volunteers have been here. They have
been helping out in every way, shape and form…so Thank you,
Thank you, Thank you. All of you are VERY appreciated.
Our volunteers truly enrich Marian and the lives of the people here!
With gratitude and appreciation we
honor Mary Hudella
