Dear Parents: It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the first semester of our school year. Our teachers, staff, and students have been working extremely hard and have much to be proud. We just completed the Winter MAP testing and will be issuing rewards to those students whom have met at least half of their yearly goals. These incentives will be passed out after the holidays. Christmas is a time when we think of giving. Our school, with the help of the community, has sponsored over fifty-seven children for Christmas this year. A special thank you goes to our Family-School Coordinator, Denise Williams, for her dedicated work on this project. In addi- tion our service learning teams are providing winter clothing for people in the Conway com- munity and monetary funding to the Samaritan House during this Christmas season. One team raised over $1400 for the American Heart Association’s “Jump Rope for Heart.” These are just a few examples of the care, commitment, and giving our students and staff are in- volved in to help those in our community. We would also like to thank our parents for their support and contributions to all of our school service learning projects. There is no better life lesson that we can teach our children. Again our Fourth Grade Service Learning Team won the Horry County Solid Waste Recycling competition for the month of December by recycling aluminum. Our school received another plague and another new laptop computer. We have established a recycling wall called “Talkin’ Trash” to display these awards as they are won. We will be recycling newspapers and maga- zines when we return from the holidays. It is my pleasure to announce the addition of two new staff members. Mr. John Sedeska is replacing Mr. James Jones as our ISS coordinator. Mrs. Cori Shuford will be teaching Child Development, replacing Mrs. Julia Johnson who has recently retired. Our PAW Power Direc- tor is now Miss Holly Kurpiela. We welcome these new staff members to our school. Kid Zone currently has space available for after-school child care. Kid Zone operates daily from 2:30 until 6:00 p.m. The cost is $45 per child and siblings are given a reduced rate. If you need these services, please contact the school office or the director, Crystal Woods, at 488-0272 or 488-6011. I hope that each family has a joyful and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Have a wonderful Christmas holiday and don’t forget to take some

time out to READ !

It’s that time of year again…cold & flu season! To help prevent the spread of illnesses, please remind your child to wash their hands often & cough or sneeze in a tissue or in the bend of their elbow. The symptoms of the flu may include; fever, sore throat, cough, chills, headache & body aches and fatigue. If a student has a fever (100.0° or above) they will be sent home. Your child may return to school if he/she is fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medications. Remember, ALL medications (including cough drops) need to be brought to the nurse by a responsible adult & have a medication authorization form completed. Please contact Nurse Chestnut @ 488-6001 if you have any questions.

Just a reminder that after the Christmas Break, we will

begin collecting newspapers and magazines so instead of

throwing away all of those great catalogs you’ve gotten in

the mail, start saving them NOW so we can continue to

Talk Trash and be Winners in the New Year!

December 15th is the last day of Paw Power for 2011.

Since we come back to school on a Wednesday, there

will be no PAW Power that week either, but we will be

back in session the week of January 9th-13th.

Students have participated in various activities, class discus-

students were able to write on a sticky note

class and create a caring favor coupon to

give to someone that they care about.
