Tearing and sticking when making a class collage helps to make our fingers strong for writing. We went on a worm fact hunt in non-fiction texts and wrote them around our collage.
One-on-one conferencing with children about their writing.

Phonics learning is based on rich, hands-on experiences, and linked with quality children's literature.

‘Ww’ is for ‘Wild Thing!
‘Ii’ is for ice- cream! We used 3D shapes to make our ice- cream cones.
The children love to investigate patterns in sounds. We add to our charts while we are learning about a sound/letter.

Play Areas Preps have a variety of play areas to choose from in addition to their own playground... here are some of their favourites!

Yard Supervision
Children are supervised at all times by several Yard Supervision Teachers before school, during recess & lunchtimes and after school.
Children can easily recognise and find an adult to help them by looking for the bright yellow vests and jackets.

Our lovely First Aid Officer Lorraine Stuart is wonderful at helping children with their inevitable bumps and bruises. She also manages student medications and allergies.

Social and Emotional Wellbeing Be You (operated by Beyond Blue) is a platform which provides educators with knowledge, resources and strategies for helping children and young people achieve their best possible mental health.
At Mount Martha Primary, we place high value on children's mental health. We are an accredited BeYou (formerly KidsMatter) school. Please see the Be You website for more details. Mindfulness is an important part of our day, especially after busy
playtimes! GoNoodle is one of our favourite ways to practice our mindfulness.

Learning about Resilience and
Prep & Year 4 Buddies
All Prep Classes have a Year 4 Buddy Class. Every year, the teachers and students work together to allocate each prep a special Year 4 buddy.
Buddy classes do special activities together and sometimes each lunch together. The Preps enjoy having a familiar face out in the yard that they can go to for help if they need it, and the Year 4 students always make us proud of the way they shoulder this new responsibility with confidence and maturity.

Music and Performing Arts
Children attend music classes regularly. Music teacher Leanne Rault runs a Junior Choir (starting in Year 1) and a Senior Choir. Junior Concerts (Prep-2) are run every second year.
Years 3-6 make a movie every year with the help of a specialised director, and hold a Film Festival at the Rosebud Cinemas.

Instrumental Music Program Individual music lessons can be arranged for children interested in learning how to play an instrument. Lessons can be undertaken at different ages depending on the instrument.
Instrumental lessons available: - Piano - Clarinet - Saxophone - Flute - Violin - Guitar - African Drumming

Physical Education and Sport Keeping active is a big part of life at MMPS. As well as regular PE lessons, there are many ways that children can pursue an active lifestyle…. - Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). Preps refine their gross motor
skills through a series of fun, hands-on activities. - Morning Jogging Club - Colour Run and Obstacle Course - Swimming Lesson (Prep-Year 2) - Swimming Carnival (Years 3-6) - Inter School Sports - Cross Country

LOTE Japanese and Indonesian
In Prep, children begin learning Japanese. They begin learning Indonesian in their senior years. They love attending regular Japanese lessons throughout the Year with ‘Sensei Nikeas’.
A real highlight is our annual ‘Japanese Day’ during which they enjoy participating in Japanese cultural activities and games, practicing their language skills and even sampling some sushi!

Visual Arts Children enjoy attending Specialist Visual Art lessons regularly. Junior school students are taught by Mrs Meagan Kohlman and Senior students are taught by Mrs Julie Christie.

Digital Technologies ..… or ‘Digitech’ for short!
Children look forward to attending their regular Specialist Digital Technology lessons in our school computer lab.. They use ipads and PC computers and experiment with all sorts of digital skills … coding, Augmented Reality and green screen capabilities just to name a few!

Parent Involvement There are many opportunities for parents to connect with our school community from becoming involved in our Social Events Committee (see following slide) to assisting in classrooms.
In Prep, parents enjoy helping with morning reading, assisting with incursions and excursions and joining in with special days such as making Tiger Toast, Veggie Soup Day, the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Book and Movie Dress-up Day, Let’s Keep Healthy Day, Community Workers Day… just to name a few!

Social Events Committee (SEC)
The SEC (Social Events Committee) are a welcoming group of parents and caregivers who are instrumental in organising school social events and fundraisers. There are many opportunities for parents who would like to become involved in this aspect of school life, ranging from big to small!
Every two years, the SEC organises s the MMPS Carnivale! There are rides, showbags, food, games, stalls and entertainment. This is a huge community event and is very much enjoyed by all.

Year 6 Leadership Program Mount Martha Primary runs a leadership program for students in Year Six. They select a role, write an application and make a presentation about how and why they would be an outstanding leader in that area. This also allows them to pursue ways that they can channel their individual interests and contribute meaningfully to our educational community.
In the slides that follow, we are pleased to share the reflections of some of our 2020 leaders, as well as short descriptions of what their leadership role entails.
