Principal Report
Next week will be the last week of term and it is certainly a busy time of the year. Students have many activities planned next week. Please check the “Coming Events” column on this page and notes that are coming home with your child.
Last week for Lunch Orders - Don’t forget that our lunch order system ceases this week. Today and tomorrow are the last days that you can order a lunch for this year. Bakery Made, the company that supply lunch orders for our students, will not be providing their usual service next week (Dec 14 – 18). Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Year 5 and 6 Film festival - Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 students and staff for their film “Kismet”! Their learning in acting and film production over the term was reflected in a very entertaining feature film. Showing “Kismet” at the Rosebud Cinema certainly added to the event.
Graduation - On Tuesday many of our Year 6s attended their secondary colleges for next year as part of the state wide Orientation Day for 2016 Year 7s. Our Year 6’s were excited to be part of the secondary college program and meet new students and teachers. Next Tuesday evening is the Year 6 Graduation evening providing the students with a chance to reflect on and celebrate their years in primary school.
Student Reports - Semester 2 reports will be going home for students on Monday 14th December. The reports provide both students and parents with information on their achievements, areas for improvement and how parents can assist with their learning at home. Congratulations students for your achievements this year!
Final Assembly for 2015 - Our final assembly will be held on Thursday 17th December at 9.10am in the gymnasium. We hope to see many parents, grandparents and friends attend our farewell assembly for the 2015 school year.
Last Day of Term - A reminder that school finishes on Friday 18th December at 1.30pm. On this day we will not be running a lunch break with our after recess block running from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Parents should consider if their child requires a slightly larger snack to get them through the additional class time.
Urgent - Library Books and Take Home Readers - All library books and take home reading material should be returned to the classroom as soon as possible. We have a terrific collection of books that need to be maintained for the use by our current and future students. Thank you for your help.
Start of School 2016 - Please note that students commence school for 2016 on Friday 29th January. Teachers will be at school on the 27th and 28th January undertaking important professional development and planning to ensure a successful start to the year.
Lost Property - A reminder to please check our Lost Property section near the Art Room before the end of the year. Thank you.
We are looking forward to a great week ahead to conclude a wonderful year at Mount Martha Primary School.
Kind regards, Martin Page.

KIDSMATTER
Throughout 2015 our Year 6 KidsMatter Leaders have been working hard to promote KidsMatter
and “You Can Do It” in our school. An important part of their role has been to assist junior students
in the Library at lunchtimes with games and activities and to help in the playground, supporting
students with getting along skills and friendship issues. With our two pink friendship seats in the
playground, the KidsMatter leaders have been able to easily identify students who need help to find
a friend.
I enjoyed meeting new Preps in the playground
and I really like helping people at the friendship
seat.
Ebony
I’ve really enjoyed being on the KidsMatter
team and helping all of the students in the yard
and in the Library.
Mia
I’ve really enjoyed going out the front at Assembly and presenting KidsMatter awards to students.
Maya
I liked helping younger kids with finding friends and suggesting things for them to do.
Emma
Jer’tarme showed great enthusiasm and leadership in regularly assisting younger students in the
playground and writing KidsMatter Awards slips for those who demonstrated the You Can Do It
foundations.
The KidsMatter Leaders have done a fantastic job this year and we wish them well as they leave
Mt Martha Primary School and move on to Secondary College in 2016.

Help stop the Summer Slide!
Did you know that when students don’t read
and write over the summer holidays they can
lose some of the important skills they have
learnt during the school year? Research
shows children who do not write over
summer can fall behind up to six months
before they begin school again the following
year. Help to stop the “Summer slide” by
making it a priority to keep students’ minds
sharp and active. Encourage them to read
for at least ten minutes each day, and write
letters, postcards, lists, labels, stories or a
diary.
Scholastic have set up a Summer Reading
Program by encouraging students to participate
in the
Summer Reading Challenge. Log on to: http://
summerreadingchallenge.scholastic.com.au/
(or use the QR code above) and register now to
record the minutes that you read over the
holidays. There are some great prizes to win but
most of all you can read all of your favourite
books and maintain all the hard work from this
year!
Don’t forget to keep an
eye on this over the
holidays for new books.

Literacy Incursion Feedback
Last week, Samantha from Andrell presented a
session to our Year 3-6 students, based
around pictorial storytelling and how our
indigenous people have been able to pass
down stories over generations using pictures,
patterns and colours. Some children then
began writing stories about their artwork.
