Dear Compass friends,

What a wonderful first

meeting of the year. The Vice Presidents did a great job organizing this event. The speaker, Garrin Hertel from Hot Club of Spokane and Nostalgia Magazine, gave us so much enlightening information about jazz and blues and their connection to Spokane. We had 7 guests, some of whom expressed interest in joining the club. I hope you had the opportunity to meet them. Some of these women had interesting careers ... one is moving from England ... others are best friends with our members. Thanks to the members who invited them.

Don’t forget to support Teen Closet in October, and our auction in November.

As I stood before you, I realized what a great group of women you are and how privileged I feel to be a part of Compass.

Warmly,Hildy

Luncheon Meeting September 5, 2017 at the Barrister Winery

The meeting was called to order at 11:30 by President, Hilda Cox. A motion to accept the minutes of the June meeting was moved, seconded and passed. Hilda then announced a change to the Board for year 2017 – 2018 and asked for members’ acceptance. With the departure from Spokane of Marcia Rowley (elected Recording Secretary for the Compass year) Kathie Heim will assume the position of Treasurer and Ro Lisk will take on the role of Recording Secretary. The change to the Board was moved, seconded and passed. The Treasurer’s Report was then filed. The lovely Hurricane Candle centerpieces were awarded to 10 delighted winners of the ticket drawing.Vice Presidents: Maureen Boutz, asked for volunteers to model clothing from Chico’s for the October luncheon fashion show.Ways and Means: Ann Fly asked that members contact her or Ingrid Julagay about donations for the annual Auction.Philanthropy: Carol Hannah will accept clothes for Teen Closet through the November luncheon. She announced that $132 worth of Philanthropy tickets were sold to support the Strolling Strings. Deena Munguia announced 50/50 tickets sales brought in $50 for the Club & $50 for a lucky drawing winner.Interest Groups: Vicki Deschaine announced that BYOB would be held at her home on September 24. She needs volunteers to host for the winter months. Two Bit Tour zip lining is planned for October 2 at Mica Moon. Contact Vicki via email. Judy Brender announced that the Scrapbooking Group has moved to a new location. Contact Judy for directions. Hilda closed the meeting with encouragement to all members to be inclusive of newcomers. The meeting was followed by a delicious lunch provided by Beacon Hill Events, and a program by Garrin Hertel, bandleader of Hot Club of Spokane and editor of Nostalgia Magazine. Happy Feet Hikers

Happy Feet Hikers (HFH) is a group of ladies that enjoys walking/hiking on the first and third Mondays of each month. We normally walk/hike at a pace that is conducive to chatting and enjoyment of the surrounding landscape. Some of our excursions have been to Manito Park, Palisades Park, parts of the Centennial Trail both in and out of the city limits, Riverside Park, and Liberty Lake County Park. After our walks/hikes we sometimes meet at local eateries. We are always looking for new ideas on where to walk, and encourage you to join us.

Keep moving forward and continue to explore the wonderful area we live in. Walking is good for the health as well as the soul. Please let us know if you would like more information about our next adventure.

Hello Ladies. The new year is beginning and we have

chosen to support the Strolling Strings Orchestra from East Valley High School. Where orchestra meets dance, the Strolling Strings play their instruments and move around the room for a unique musical experience. It is a great organization and they are pleased that we have chosen to support them.

I will be selling raffle tickets at the October luncheon. At each luncheon (except November) there will be ticket drawings for winners of the surprises.
