Brush Creek Baptist Church • 5345 Airport Road • Bear Creek, NC 27207 • 919/742-3221 Volume 44 November 2016 Number 11 The Source The month of November is finally upon us, and it has arrived ever so quickly. As I consider its brevity, I also reflect on so many great memories. As a child, November meant Thanksgivings spent with family, eating pumpkin pie, and visiting my cousins. It meant the warmth of a fireplace, and the blaring of college football on the TV. November also prepared me for the great time of the year known as Christmas. It's ubiquitous sights, sounds, and smells filled the air. Indeed, November during my childhood was always refreshing and comforting. November also brings with it a time of personal thanksgiving and reflection; not just during the holiday, but throughout the days leading up to it. As a Christian, I am aware of the need for a time of thanksgiving. I'm also aware of the necessity of giving thanks for all things - even the unexpected things. I believe this honors God because He is the author of blessings. Giving thanks to God is one of our greatest responsibilities as children of God. We often ask God to bless us in this, or to bless us in that, without remembering to give thanks. I believe God loves to bless us, but He equally loves it when we are thankful for His blessings. Paul understood this idea in his epistle to the Philippians. He wrote in chapter one, "I thank my God upon every remembrance of you." He was expressing thankfulness to God for the conduct and character of the Philippian Christians. He must have spent, hours, days, and months praying for the believers there to grow and flourish in the faith. Furthermore, he was expressing gratitude for the answer to his prayers. As we enter November, let us thank God for what He has done past, present, and future. May we embrace the idea of being thankful for all things. May our acts of thanksgiving overflow into the lives of others so they may give God the glory in all things. An attitude of thankfulness is contagious. And we are blessed with the great privilege of spreading it. God bless each and every one of you this month. My family and I love you so much, and send you our gratitude and appreciation. May we all continue to grow closer to the One who called us into His glorious presence. Happy Thanksgiving! Pastor Frank

November also prepared me for the great time ofthe year known as Christmas. It's ubiquitous sights, sounds, and smells filled the air. Indeed, Novemberduring my childhood was always refreshing andcomforting.

November also brings with it a time of personalthanksgiving and reflection; not just during theholiday, but throughout the days leading up to it. Asa Christian, I am aware of the need for a time ofthanksgiving. I'm also aware of the necessity of givingthanks for all things - even the unexpected things. MissionsA BIG thank you for all that were able

to contribute to the North Carolina MissionsOffering. We exceeded our goal and collected$915.25. It is important when we step up andgive to God – He can use our offerings in so

many ways, and this includes a portion going to NC BaptistMen’s Disaster Relief. As we mentioned earlier in our Sundayservice, you can contribute directly to recent disaster reliefefforts by giving to the church and marking it “HurricaneMatthew Relief Fund”. What a wonderful opportunity to giveand know that 100% of your gift will go to help people in needthat are right at our doorstep. We hope to also donate items forthe flood victims. We will announce more information on thisas we continue to make contact with certain people andorganizations.

November is the month for the Baptist Children’sHomes Offering. We always participate in giving to this vitalNorth Carolina ministry. Our goal is always “A Mile” – $844.43. There are additional needs this year that I amworking on at the moment for the Kinston Children’s Home. The children and staff had to be evacuated to the Mill’s Homein Thomasville due to the recent flooding. Please keep thissituation in your prayers as we get updates. This event waslarger and worse than Hurricane Floyd in 1999, and many of usremember that. The effects will not go away for months andyears.

We will also have “Angel Tree” Children for Christmasgifts to be donated. More information will be announced in thechurch bulletin in the coming weeks. God bless you all and mayyou have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Reflectionsby Frances Gilmore

Happy Thanksgiving! This is atime set aside for giving thanks. Below are a few things Ihave been thankful for lately. This is not all my list andprobably not your typical list, but nevertheless I amthankful for the following.

Daylight to see things more clearly, to get chores donewhether inside or outside; the light that shines on us isbeneficial and healthy. Even if we are inside it is nice tosee the light shining through the windows.

Night time is great for rest and relaxation and reflectionsof the day and planning for tomorrow.

Wind can be appreciated. It cools us on hot summer days. It warns us of bad weather. And more and more it is beingused for energy.

That snow melts and water evaporates. Water can befunneled from its source through pipes to any area whereit is mostly needed. I am glad I do not have to go very farto get the water. A little sweetness with the snow makesice cream and a little soap with water cleans the body aswell as the clothes. And often snow gives me anunexpected day at home, which is greatly appreciated. Iam thankful for a dry place when the rain and snow gettoo rough.

Tears and laughter. Without both how would weappreciate the other?

TV shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. I learnmore than just the answers to the quiz. I learn diversityand about different jobs and ethnic backgrounds.

A compliment. Have you ever experienced a complimentwhen you least expected one and afterwards feelinguplifted and more energetic? Nice! Nice, whether comingfrom a friend or a complete stranger.

Electricity. I think this speaks for itself, but I am alsothankful for the candles when the power is off.

Seasons change physically and mentally. There is aphysical difference between warm seasons and coldseasons. Between growing seasons and harvest seasons. Some days are sad and some are happy but we knowneither will last forever. Our lives are mixed with variety. I love the spring and I watch for the first sign of newgreen leaves on the trees. I love the shade that trees provide in the summer. I love the change in the color of

leaves in the fall. And when it snows in the winter I lovethe way the snow sometimes sticks to the trees in their ownunique art form.

I love the world that God has provided and I lovethe people who enter my life. Just like the world, our liveschange from season to season. But one thing does notchange. That is God, the One True God. He is the sameforever. And we need to thank Him.

Dear God, thank You for being the Almighty God that Youare. Thank you for all your blessings in our lives each andevery day. Thank You for the seasons in our lives andthank You for always being as close as a prayer away whenthe seasons overwhelm us._

VETERAN’S DAY NOVEMBER 11 TH

On Veterans Day we honor allWho answered to a service call.Soldiers young, and soldiers old,

Fought for freedom, brave and bold. Some have lived while others died,And all of them deserve our pride. We’re proud of all the soldiers whoKept thinking of red, white and blue. They fought for us and all our rights,

They fought through many days and nights. And though we may not know each name,

We thank ALL veterans just the same.
