INTRODUCTIONAccording to Swami Vivekananda
“Spiritual Knowledge is the only thing thatcan destroy our miseries for ever; any otherknowledge satisfies wants for a time. It isonly with the knowledge of the spirit that thefaculty of wants is annihilated for ever”. Itwas to fulfil mankind’s spiritual needs thatMaharaj Bood Singh Bir, the Shahen-Shah-e-Ruhaniyat, founded the Ruhani SatsangPrem Samaj on 3rd May, 1937, at Lahore(Pakistan). Having branches all over India, and even in distant lands, it has played andcontinues to play an important role inspiritually awakening millions of young menand women from deep slumber through Light,Love and Faith. A Unique institution ofUniversal Brotherhood, it is a living brideover which spiritualism marches fromunmeasured past to the glorious future.
Maharaj Bir’s life can be summed up inthree sentences. He was born on 5th May, 1905
in village Tungbala, near Amritsar to S. SurianSingh and Mata Dayal Kaur. Illumined by theDivine Light from his very birth, he was indirect and constant communication with theEternal Reality (Ik Jot). Proclaiming onenessof God, he worked intensively till the age ofninety (February 21, 1995) to illuminatemankind by giving Divine Light to those whosearched for it, sweet fragrance of Love to thosewho hungered for it and the nectar of “Lord’swill” to those who longed for it. A gloriouslife, set on the rock of love and duty, he was aunique example of surrender to the Divine Will.A true light on the path of God realization canbe shed only by a person, who himself hasrealized God, who has known Him, who livesin Him and through whom God manifests “HisWill”. Maharaj Bir Ji was indeed a realized soul, obviously his ideas on the technique of realizingGod through “unconditional surrender” asenunciated in his masterpiece “Akash Vani”or “Song Celestial” are most dependable, mostilluminating and real gems of Godly wisdom.
Akashvani Akashvani
Like the bee gathering honey fromdifferent flowers, Maharaj Bir Ji saw onlythe sweetness and goodness in all religionsand accepted the essence of differentscriptures. No wonder “Akash Vani” is anepitome of all the scriptures. It’s essentialmessage and essence of the of verses is sotimeless and unique that a reader may findsupport to his principles and doctrines, whatever school of thought he belongs to.
Maharaj Bir Ji’s inspiring verses, deeplike an unfathomable ocean of esotericwisdom, are full of gems and pearls of Divinenames like “Rama” and “Hari” - “Rama”being all conscious and all blissful divinitywho permeates the whole world; and “Hari”who takes away or burns all the sins of onewho recites His name. Beginning withobeisance to “Lord Rama” - “Aadi JugaadiSacha Ram” - these finally end with theeternal truth - “Har ji ke har shai hai haath,Bira Tise nivao maath”. The harmoniousvibration produced on singing the names and
glory of God through recitation of theshalokas, helps the devotee to control hismind easily. Exerting soothing and benigninfluence, it elevates the mind, at once, fromits old rut to magnanimous heights of DivineSplendor and Supreme knowledge. Thedevotee, surrendering to the Lord with fullfaith and belief, whole heartily reaches theAdobe of Bliss, Moksha or merges in theSpark Divine.
These have a tremendous universalappeal which is for all ages and countriesirrespective of caste, creed or sex. Acting as ateacher, the “Akash Vani” influences andprovides guidance to all types of persons -extroverts, emotionals, intellectuals, spirituallyreligious, atheists and agnostics - to livepurposely in this world, under allcircumstances. No wonder, it is recited bymillions every morning and evening. The more often and more deeply one studiesthe verses of “Akash Vani”, the more one mayfeel that a still deeper, higher and vaster
Akashvani Akashvani
meaning of the text, which failed to catch hisattention in the beginning, is dawning upon him. Thus there is always a scope for improvementin the interpretation and better suited Englishword too. This small tract entitled the “SongCelestial” is an English version of thesepeerless thoughts and is specially meant for thebenefit of the English reading Premis (theseekers of true love), non-resident Indians andforeigners who are keen to understand MaharajBir Ji’s most excellent spiritual nourishment.
We have no words to express our senseof indebtedness and gratitude to Maharaj KamalBir Ji for inspiring us and affording us anopportunity to delve in the enlightening verses. We are also indebted to our gracious readerswho are indirectly instrumental in inspiringnoble thoughts in us. Deeply conscious of ourdeficiency in English, we crave their indulgencefor the errors, if any, in this humble undertaking.
With these words of introduction, wehope that the true aspirants and seekers of truth, who are keen to know God, this small volume
will serve as an unfailing guide, a comfortable, illuminating and dependable friend on theirjourney towards Godhead.
In the end, we again submit that the creditfor whatever merits this book may deserve goesto the Almighty Ik Jot in whose hand we aremere tools. The flaws and omissions are ours.

^^bd tksr** = “Ik” means “an indivisible onewithout a second” and “Jot” signifies “the EternalBlaze, Divine Light or Force”. Thus Brahma or Ik jot,is the Central Reality, the one without a second, who isall that is; the spirit that abides beyond the seemingvictories of matter, beyond the immeasurable vastnessof stellar space, beyond the mutation of heavenlybodies. Everything is spun and woven in “Ik Jot”
and it is this Eternal Blaze or the Divine Force thatgives meaning to the whole world. The dead anddark human body when lighted with the Divine spark, becomes the very temple of Living God on earth. If this Central Force is withdrawn, in a moment, thewhole creation will disappear.
In nutshell, “Ik Jot” is the Eternal Blaze, theindescribable Omniscient Light of all Lights, energyof all energies, consciousness of all consciousness,God of all Gods, from which the sparks spring andto which they return. Call it Rama, Brahma,Paramatma, Khuda, Allah or God, whatever onemay like. Because: A God, A Brahma exists, Onheart-Lotus of high and low, His SparkEternally subsists.
^^loZO;kid** = “Sarv” means “Omni (All)” and“ViyapaK’’ denotes “pervading” or “present”. “Ikjot” or Brahma is omnipresent. He is present in allplaces, times, things and beings. He pervades in allthe creatures whether they are meanest or the vilestor whether they are ascetics or saints. He permeatescompletely in the purest and the most impure per-son and even in hell. “Vasudeva Sarvam” or “All isGod”,-thus Lord is the universe and the universe
Akashvani Akashvani3 4
is He, who dwells in the secret places of heart andthe universe receives the stamp of holiness throughthe reflection of His presence.Around each of us, thereare millions of eyes of God, watching each of us.Millions of television pictures concerning us are flashedacross the universe, we can do no action without beingnoticed by Him; we can think no thought without Godregistering it. Every act of our life is immediatelyknown to Him who is all-seeing and all-knowing. Asong from the Gospel says-on every side men seekHim tirelessly and as they seek Him, ever ask “Whereis His Limit, where is His end?” He is inseparablyconnected with everything is this world.
In star studded skyIn surging roaring sea
I fetch image divineUnknown, unseen to me.
He is blush of beauteous bride,He, a cry of newly born
Over eagle’s wing, He takes flightAnd in humblest hut Sojourns.
He throbs in our pulse and veinHe heaves in every breast
Ostentations are of no availWithin cavern of heart He rests.
^^fujkdkj** = “Nir” means “without” and“Aakaar’’ denotes form or shape. Being formlessand attributeless. Brahma or “Ik jot” can neither beseen by the eye, nor by speech nor by other senses norby devotional rites. This has been confirmed by theUpanishads as well as by Saint John in his Gospelwhere these categorically state “His form is not tobe held; none whosoever beholds Him with the eye”and “No one has ever seen God”. The astronauts ofSoviet Union once searched God in the outer spacebut could not find Him. When a saint was asked thequestion “Can I see God?”, he replied with a counterquestion: “Do you have eyes to see Him?”. True, how can the fleshy human eye stand the dazzlingeffulgence of the creator who is as luminous as athousand suns. An audience with the Lord requiresself discipline, a conquest of self-seeking desire withits fears, hatred and anxieties. He alone is able toknow Brahma, to whom He makes Himself known;and as soon as he knows Him, he becomes one withHim. God can be held only by Yogis possessing thepure heart, performing constant meditation andexclusive surrender to Him. Brahma appears in thehearts of such exalted souls as a brilliant flame andgraces them with a direct vision of His Divine form.
Akashvani Akashvani5 6
^^vtUe ewrZ** = “Ajanam” means “unborn” and“Moorat” denotes “personality”. Brahma orIk Jot is unborn, indubitable reality and not a mereperception. One who is born remains confined toone particular place at one specified time whereasthe Lord, being unborn, is omnipresent, omniscientand omnipotent. Whosoever takes birth, has to diebut God, being unborn, is immortal and eternal.
Know, this BrahmUnborn, undyingNever Ceasing, never Beginning,Deathless, birthless,Unchanging for ever,Everywhere, always Changeless, eternal, For ever and ever.
^^txr drkZ** = “Jagat” means “The Universe”and “Karta” denotes “The Creator”. Brahma or“Ik Jot” is the Supreme Being from whom proceedthe Creation, Sustenance and Destruction of theUniverse. He has not only created the universe butalso entered into it and lies in the hearts of allcreatures as “Antaratmin” -Inner controller. Just asthe image on a cinema screen consists of rays of
light even so is the entire creation made from thesubstance of Divine Light.Brahma, the Creator is a great alchemist, infusing theelixir of His magical essence into all the elements fromthe ether down even to the rocks and transmutingthem into the gold of His divinity. In the beauty, grandeur and the majesty of the sublime creation ofthe physical world, the colourful flowers, the lushgreen meadows, the chirping of birds, the laughterof men, the white snow-capped mountains, thecascading of water falls, the blue sky and in thecrimson sunrise, we see the invisible hand of aninfinite creator and a Magnificent Designer who isbeyond the known and the unknown. He iswonderful engineer who creates and uncreateseverything at His Will.
No mortal can stand and dareWhen fury comes as gale
And then He creates againBy spark of Celestial flame,
Hills, forests, rivers and plains,And men, women to start the game,
In Bhagwat Gita, didn’t Lord Krishna speaks toArjuna “Suffice it to say that I stand holding this
Akashvani Akashvani7 8
entire universe by a spark of my Yogic power”. Thusthe whole universe is contained in a fragment of Godand rests on His idea or sankalap alone.^^f=knks[k jfgr** = “Tri-dokh” means “Threeshortcomings or abuses viz. imperfection, impurityand ignorance” and “Rahit” signifies “Free”. Thusit implies free from three abuses or shortcomings.Bhrahma or Ik Jot is a flawless, immaculate, pure, guileless, transparent “Absolute Reality”, which isinfallible at all times, He possesses all perfectattributes without even a semblance of imperfection. He is defined as stainless as there can be noimpurity in Him. He is pure to such an extent thateven the greatest sinners who take His refugebecome pure, pious and holy. Nor does He possessany trace of Maya or ignorance. As a matter of factMaya itself seeks shelter at His Lotus Feet.
^^vuUr y{k.k** = “Anant” means “Limitless”and “ Lakshan” implies “manifestations”. Itsignifies “limitless manifestations.”Though in the ultimate analysis God has no attributes-symbol, sign or mark-yet there is no limit to theDivine manifestations. He is visible in diagonallyopposite attitudes, forms and states of existence at
one and the same time; and is yet altogether and everbeyond them. His sport (Leela) is most strange, wonderful and bewitching. The Supreme Lordmanifests Himself as Brahma to the gyani andexalted souls, a Paramatma to yogis and as Bhagwanfull of all glories, all beauties, all sweetness and allattributes to bhaktas (the devotees). His sport is uniqueas He assumes many forms. There is absolutelynothing which is impossible of being made possibleby the supreme Magician.
^^loZ xq.k iw.kZ** = “Sarva” means “Infinite” and“Gun” denotes “virtues” and “Pooran” signifiescomplete and perfect that is “repository of all virtues”.Thus Brahma or Ik jot is the repository of infinitevirtues. Being “Pooran Brahma” or perfectionpersonified, He is the repository of all beauty, allsweetness, all glory, all joy, all peace and tranquilityand all blessedness.
^^vej dqnjr** = “Amar” means “immortal” and“Kudrat” denotes “Power or Nature”. ThusBrahma or Ik jot, the Paramount Lord, is all powerful, and immortal, Nature being under His thumb, everything depends on His will. Not a single leaf can
Akashvani Akashvani9 10
flutter without His consent. The world may be old,but God has not aged even by a second sincecreation-billions and billions of years ago. Time doesnot affect Him, space can not span Him. He is thebeginningless, the endless, the ageless being ofinfinite perfection who was, is and will always be.
^^csvUr jk”kd** = “Be-ant” means “knowing nobounds” and “Razak” denotes “Compassionate”.Brahma, God or Ik jot is unaccountably, invariableand indiscriminately kind and merciful-a “Real WellWisher” and the sole dispenser of gifts to thewidespread humanity the portals of whose heart areever open to all. God has no favourites in the world;he loves the worst criminal as much as He loves thegreatest saint. He is the real father, the merciful motherand most reliable friend who unconditionally lovesHis creatures as His children. He knows them, asthey truly are, meets all their legitimate demands and,by His natural kindness, redeems even the depraved, sinful, dissolute and contemptible fellows.A worst sinner need not despair
That loads of his sins are too greatEven the vilest has a chance to repair
In LORD speedily, if refuge he takes.
^^lr~ dke** = “Satkam” means achiever of HisWill. Brahma or Ik Jot can create and destroyanything and everything at His will. Whatever Hedesires is achieved without and delay. Looking atthe vast creation of the world, and its flawlessadministration, one has to admit that He can dowhatever He wills. His auspicious name and works, which are eternal and absolute truth, have withstoodthe test of time.
^^izFkeks lr~ varks lr~ gj gky lr~** = “Sat”means real, true or eternal-Existence Absolute-thatexisted in the past, is existing in the present; and willexist in the future; and that which is uninterrupted inthe three divisions of time. And that real substanceis GOD or IK JOT. “Prathmo-Sat” and “Anto-Sat’’and “Har Hall Sat” means TRUE in the beginning;TRUE in the end; and TRUE under allcircumstances. Here Maharaj Bir Ji emphasises thatGOD, Brahma or IK JOT is there from the verybeginning of the universe. He is immortal, eternal ordeathless and He will continue as ever whether thecreation remains or not. According to Bible too“GOD” is not subject to change or go back to Hisshadow”. Hence, He is True under all circumstances.Everything else, other than Him, is untrue, unreal, perishable, impermanent, ephemeral and illusory.
Akashvani Akashvani11 12
^^chj lr~ lr~** = “BIR” means “brave”, buthere it is Maharaj Bood Singh-the founder of the“Ruhani Satsang Prem Samaj” and creator of“Akash Vani” -and “Sat” means “Truth”. Byrepeating the world “Sat”, he confirms that all thecharacteristics or attributes of GOD or IK JOTdescribed by him are eternally and indubitably TRUE.TRUTH IS REAL and whatever is real or eternal isGOD. The real is infinite. There is nothing before orafter it, nothing outside it. All things that exist, thathave ever existed or that could ever exist, are apartial and fragmentary showing forth of thepossibilities which it includes within itself. ThisBrahma or IK JOT is not one, nor simple unity forthe ideas of oneness or unity are notions conceivedin our limited minds and Brahma is limitless.TRUTH is of universal order. It is unaffected byindividual influences or conditions of spaces andtime. The truth which is the kernel of every religionis one and the same; doctrines, however differconsiderably since they are the applications ofthe truth to the human situation.Since the truth itself is beyond any expression thatcan be found for it, suffice it to say that Truth is“Truth” itself.
