At Celestial Harmonies we recognize that protecting the environment is critical topreserving the future of civilization and all living things. As a company that producesmusic by and for people all over the world, we are firmly committed to doing ourpart by engaging in environmentally-conscious practices in all elements of our businessoperations. Therefore, we are pleased to take a leadership position in the recordindustry by clearly stating a company-wide environmental policy, which both servesas a guideline for all Celestial Harmonies employees and demonstrates our unwaveringsupport of responsible environmental behavior to the recording artists on our labelsand our customers.

Our environmental mission: to engage in innovative, environmentally-consciouspractices in all elements of our production, packaging, distribution and otheroperations, and to record artists whose environmental views are in accord withresponsible environmental behavior.

In this regard, Celestial Harmonies has taken the following steps:

n All plastic used in packaging Celestial Harmonies music releases is recyclable.

n In 1992, Celestial Harmonies introduced to the American market the compactdisk (CD) duobox. This type of packaging accommodates two CDs in a singleplastic CD case, or jewel box. The duobox, originally developed in Europe, reducesthe volume (by 60 percent) and weight (by 25 percent) of plastic packaging foreach two-CD product typically and wastefully packaged in larger containers.

The duobox reduces the number of plastic pieces in the standard two-CD packagefrom five to three, and reduces the number of paper inserts from three pieces totwo. The companys policy is to issue all future two-CD releases in the duoboxpackaging.

n In 1993, Celestial Harmonies began using the CD slim-line box, a jewel box halfthe width and 34 percent the weight of a standard jewel box, becoming the firstcompany in the industry to issue full-length CDs in this packaging. The slim-linepackage also eliminates the need for the wasteful CD tray, which holds the CD inplace.

n In 1993, Celestial Harmonies began using recycled paper for all its corporateletterhead, envelopes and other printed materials.

n In 1994, Celestial Harmonies began printing all paper used in its music releases innon-toxic vegetable inks.

n Recycled paper and non-toxic vegetable inks will be used when remanufacturingolder releases on the companys labels.

n Celestial Harmonies will show a preference for recording artists whose views arein accord with responsible environmental behavior.

As the first company in the record industry to publicly state an environmental policyregarding the packaging of its music products, we encourage other companies totake similar action in finding safer, less wasteful means of packaging.
