Better Right Now

“I could be smiling right now."

Appreciation and smiling go nicely together…

Everyone looks better when they smile. Everything is made better when we smile.

albert paul brianstein
One day it hit me. I was actually in bed, where I love to be. I LOVE my sleep... all cozy, with the dogs at my feet, and I realized that I wasn't smiling, and it seemed to me I should be. Why wouldn't I be? And that feeling has stayed with me for some reason.Dan Harris, meditation 10 % Happier...

PsychoneuroimmunologyHow our thoughts and feelings affect our health is a field of interdisciplinary medicine.

Norman Cousins, Anatomy of an Illness ...

Kids smile an average of 400 times a day, Adults: 20 *

The health benefits of smiling and laughing are well known in the popular mind as well as scientifically... It's just a wonder we don't do it MORE.BioPsychoSocial... George EngelsWhat I call the “Playcebo” Effect

The Smile FactorIf you were to estimate what percentage of the

day you tend to smile, what would you say?

I was probably around 5-10%Now I’m in the 80s and 90s.

Smile “more” never quite worked for me. The intention to smile all day broke it open.

If you work in a job where it is required for customer service or whatever, and you have to do it for long periods of time... waitstaff, 40 hour fitness trainer... it can be counterproductive somehow...

The Play & Humor Perspective

Play is the essence of health, of vitality, of learning, and of creativity.

Playfulness is something to be initiated, shared, and maintained.

We have a moral obligation to lift each other’s spirits, especially when times are tough.

albert paul brianstein
This is square one... The number zero in the Tarot, represented by the fool. This is the energy of creation... even in creating better habits for ourselves, a healthier body, and a better life.

Happiness and Freedom

Happy to the extent we feel in control of our lives... Unconditional happiness flips the script with a

kind of reverse engineering.

Happy and smiling for no apparent reason goes beyond "fake it till you make it".

albert paul brianstein
Western philosophy and the eastern philosophy of YogaShakespeare says "Twere as easy for you to laugh and to leap and to say I am happy that I am not sad..."

L.A.F."I am Lighthearted, Appreciative, and Free."

I’m the happiest person in the check out line… in the intersection… in the situation…

It’s a tacit competition, With no cost to enter.

Just float on in.

Words for Smiling

There are only a dozen common synonyms of smile, but there are as many kinds of smile as there are adjectives, or states of experience.

The big-old goofy smile, the shy smile, the fake smile, the wry smile, the provocative and the sly smile, the sad smile, the obsequious smile, etc—

And let's not forget the beautiful smile.

albert paul brianstein
Schadenfreude is German word for the good feeling we sometimes experience at the misfortune of others.I propose the shchadenfugme smile, which is when you laugh at yourself in realizing your own screw-up.

Friendship Magnet

“In order to have a friend, first you must be one.” Emerson

Like attracts like as much as opposites attract… aka LOA.

The Control Panel

Facial muscles create an electromagnetic signature, interacting with quantum fields.

The body and peripheral nervous system act as an antennae, through posture, etc.

The eyes are signal boosters that amplify the brain wave / heart wave state.

albert paul brianstein
… hormonal, neuroplastic, and epigenetic benefits follow.

Smile TransmitterSmile when talking on the phone because it

comes across in your voice.

Smile while thinking about a friend to send them good vibes like a psychic cellphone.

albert paul brianstein
… hormonal, neuroplastic, and epigenetic benefits follow.

"Smile Check"It all starts with checking in, and the awareness

to notice. Smile mindfulness.

It’s right under your nose!

Create new facial muscle habits.Posture and breathing check go nicely with it.

albert paul brianstein
Maybe there's a another degree, if we add one below smile practitioner, that is how most of us live, where there is a blip on the screen, the occasional smiler, the once-in-while-if-I-have-to smiler... Do you know anyone like that? You are all now certified as Smile Practitioners from this training. Smile Therapy degrees are available for anyone who can remove the frown off of one person per day to achieve certification...

Smiling Nature

"Laugh and the world laughs with you…”Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Deep in the mammalian brain, we are wired to smile. Monkeys, dogs, cats, mice…

You can always find something to smile about, and it’s a kind of emotional first-aid.

Smiling as Meditation

Primary Object such as breath, and sitting position (back straight, etc).

Smile check. Why sit with a frown during meditation?

Notice the effect of smiling on your experience of the present moment. Now bring the mindful smile with you out into the world!

albert paul brianstein
Teaching meditation at Canyon Ranch over a thousand times. I've also taught it elsewhere over the years, and practiceds enough to feel like I am approaching the 10,000 hours level. albert paul brianstein
Athletic performance, smiling versus clenching...Laughter and singing are also good to do and still count as smiling, in my book. Singing is interestiing because you can keep the feeling of smiiling and gives muscles used in maintaining the smile to rest a little.

Guinness Book of RecordsBuddhists are rated as the happiest people… I want in on some of that.

Extreme HappinessHabitual smiling can result in spontaneous

eruptions of extreme happiness.

The bar is raised to a whole new level. Your brain is rewiring itself.

From tranquil and serene, to ecstatic states of appreciation and perhaps a kind of grace.

albert paul brianstein
You feel magical, and psychologically bulletproof.even if it is just developing a habit to smile more when using the computer, or when looking out a window, or when interacting with another human being, you will catch yourself enjoying the experience of smiling for no good reason, and you will have a positive feedback loop that can break through all kinds of negative programming.Looshe-free...Mystical union as the great poets say.
