First there was a "left seat", a "right seat" and a "jump seat". Then somewhere along the line the right seat disappeared. (Don't ask why). A little later on, the right seat reappeared and the jump seat went away. Regardless of what you call these collected UFO

ramblings, one thing is certain; the view from up here is interesting—to say the least. One other thing is certain--the various contributors to this column all had an abiding love of aviation in general and the UFO organization in particular. Names such as Bart Bratko, Bill Webber, Charlie Lopez, Nancy Warren to name a few are all fondly remembered for all the many contributions they made to the UFO. John has been a UFO member for a while, but sent in a write-up as be-ing one of the luckiest UFO pilots!! His luck included: 47 intentional parachute jumps, 1960s aerial supply of Recon Marines, 3 years chas-ing drug-lords in Mojave Desert, 2 broken engine mount bolts on this Stearman, supercharger failure off the coast of Kalaupapa, 2 engine fires, one Kamikaze flight, numerous flights over the snowy Sierra Ne-vadas. Keep up with the lucky and joyful flying.

The UFO and Wright Bros Master Pilots meeting was on July 14 at the Mission Aviation Fellowship complex in Nampa, ID. 24 arrived around 11am to be pre-sented with a spectacular tour of this es-tablishment. They gave us the feeling that they were doing a wonderful job of helping those in need all over the world. How? By training volunteers to go with their airplanes and equipment to faraway lands that have no help available. They have many types of aircraft including 7 Quest Kodiacs made in Sandpoint, ID and Caravans. They furnished lunch for all of us and helped take us to the War Hawk Museum a mile away. This is all the creation of UFO Don Taylor of Em-mett, ID. Working with him was UFO Norm Kinney of Melba, ID. This is the first time we have met in Southern Idaho.

UFO and WBMP Meeting July 14, 2016 (MAN) Nampa, ID

UFO and Wright Bros Master Pilots had a great meeting in Spokane at The Signature FBO at Spo-kane International Airport. It started at11am and lunch was catered by the Long Horn Barbeque restaurant. What a spread of great food.. We counted 28 attending. This is the 5th meeting we have had in the NW bringing together UFOs and Wright Bros Master Pilots. The Wright Bros can be as young as 70 and the UFOs as young as 80. We all know those young ones will eventually be old enough to be UFOs. Jim Cavender came all the way from Fort Worth Texas to see if this new idea is working. His comment: “You do good work , Bill Webber”. We had three arriving by air, Roy Skelton(Okanogan) Don Clayhold (Kennewick), and John and Pat Harns (Post Falls, ID). This idea could be a great start of those who want to socialize because that helps them all have a chance to live until they are 100.

Wow what a spectacular clear day for a fly-in meeting at Friday Harbor-part of the San Juan Is-lands. We were surprised by the great attendance. Bill Webber and his son Rick flew in from Spokane and shortly after we arrived, we started handing out name tags. Bill had preprinted them up for those that said they were coming. All of a sudden there were people arriving that didn’t sign up. We made extras but ran out. What a nice problem to have. The final count was 52. This is the largest attendance we have had since we started in 2008. That year there were only 11. We rushed to see the owner of the restaurant. I hope you have enough food for many extra people She assured me we would work out something for everyone. The hamburgers, soup and salad were de-licious. It was almost standing room only but we found enough chairs for everyone. John Gey-man was in charge of directing the airplanes. We estimate there were 24. We filled the parking area. We had aircraft from Cameron Park, CA, Corvallis, OR, Wilsonville, OR, and Everett, WA. All the UFOs and Master Pilots had a chance to each talk for 3 minutes because there were so many. Great clear day for a wonderful meeting.

Low turnout, no excuse! Only eight of UFOs were there out of about 30 diners for beef and chicken tacos for lunch. Weather was good but too many other things were going on. Bert Bate regaled us about the first five days at Oshkosh. Next gaggle is to be in con-junction with EAA 14’s 60th anniversary cele-bration, with BBQ & Octoberfest on October 29th. C U there!

Gaggle July 30, 2016 Brown Field (SDM) San Diego, CA

There were eight hardy UFOers who braved the stormy weather to gather at KGPM (Grand Prairie Municipal) for ROUNDUP XII on July 27. Not only that but we had two intrepid members who flew-in in spite of less than ideal flying weather. Our speaker for the day had to beg off. He was scheduled to fly-in from Copperas Cove. Dick will try again in October. This snap-shot of our gang was taken in front of Jack Russell's beautiful twin Navajo. Next up: ROUNDUP XIII on October 19.

Friday, August 12th found a group of UFOs seated around two long tables at Dale Ether-ington’s airport, Glendale 8I3, feasting on fried chicken and an awesome array of other foods prepared by local (and excel-lent) cooks! The room was filled with fellowship, conver-

sation, and shared enjoyment in the delicious food. Attending besides Dale and his wife and daughter were Charlie Holleman & George Palmer from West Lafayette, Jim Campbell from Car-mel, Ralph Jeffers from Peru, Bob Plattner (who has never missed a meeting) from Fort Wayne, Gene & Barbara McCauley from Kokomo, Jim & Ginger Wright from Kokomo, George Robbins & pilot daughter Karen James from Seymour, and Nancy Warren from Columbus. Following lunch, everyone was transported to Grissom Air Force Base to spend some time in their museum and to walk outside among the aircraft on static display; aircraft which evoked many memories for some of our UFO members. What a wonderful day and a terrific way to be with aviation friends!

John Kelly, Lt Colonel USAF Retired received his private license in 1952 and his avi-ation career soared from there. He was involved in Civil Air Patrol in Washington state and became a Junior Engineer for Boeing. In 1957 he joined the Air Force and flew the F-86L and flew all over the world. After retiring in 1980, he returned to

Washington and flew charters in a Cessna 441 and became involved with Galvin in Seattle. He achieved many distinguished positions including Chief Pilot and Check Airman, and flew Cessna Ci-tation and really enjoyed the LEAR 24XR and flew all their equipment. He also flew the B-757 for Eastern Airlines. John is presently an active flight instructor in the Mt. Vernon area and enjoys flying in the beautiful Northwest.

John Larrison (81) La Verna, TX John soloed in 1957 and joined the Air Force in 1957 as a flight test engineer on the Boeing B-52 and flew as Tail Gunner. He entered pilot training at Malden, MO in T-34 & T-28 then on to T-33s where he became an instructor at Vance AFB, OK. During Vietnam, he flew the A-1E Skyair. He returned home to fly the F-102/F-101B followed by a two year exchange tour with the Cana-dian Air Force. John was Maintenance Officer assigned in Korea on F-4Ds and also was an Inspector General. He retired from USAF 1979 where he became a senior logistics manager on the MX missiles and the B-1B. He is now totally retired and flying his RV-8 and is involved with several community and aviation organizations.

John soloed at Renton and Boeing field in Washington in1956 in a Taylorcraft through the UW flying club and he was with the Air Force ROTC there. He was stationed in St. Louis, Japan, Philip-pines, and Thailand. He also served as a flight engineer on C141 Starlifters at McChord AFB. He also flew for Saudi Arabia Airlines and for American Trans Air and flew all over the world for 23 years in the L1011 Tristar and B727. He has acquired over 25,000 hours in heavy jets and 3,000 in light aircraft. For the past 10 years, he has been active flying his RV-6 at his private airport in Randle WA, (WN55), a nice grass strip. He tells us all to “COME ON IN!”

Like many kids, Fred was fascinated by airplanes. He would run out of the house whenever he heard a plane overhead and try to identify it. As he got older, building model airplanes became a regular activity and his room was eventually filled with airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Fred finally com-pleted his license in 1979. After a hiatus of several years, he once again got back into flying and rented planes for about 5 years from the local FBO.

Then, in Dec 2007, he achieved his BIG dream and was able to purchase a 1976 Cessna Skyhawk (N9895Q) and has been flying this plane ever since.

To celebrate his 70th solo flight anniversary (May 26, 1946). Skeet was looking for a J-3 Piper Cub, but instead he found a 1947 Cub Cruiser that was completely restored. He took it off and then flew it as PIC for 45 minutes. He entered the downwind leg at Moontown Airport 3M5, turned to base, and then on final he was asked by the owner if he would like to land the aircraft, but he replied that after 70 years the owner should land it since he had not landed one like this in 70 years.
