Thanks to our GGG ladies for supplying the food bank at Harvey’s Chapel Baptist Church with a HUGE amount of non-perishable food items at November’s Girls, Games, & Goodies! Edith McConnell, director of the food bank since 1997, spoke to the group about how much our dona-tions help the people in the Mt. Pine area. As shown below, the food items filled two vehicles. AND a BIG THANKS to Allan Moore and Dennis Warden for delivering food to Harvey’s Chapel!
A big crowd enjoying GGG on November 10 The Seat Belt Comfort Straps our ladies
ministry and friends in the Village sewed are available to anyone who wants one. They are displayed on the table in the Fellowship Hall in individual baggies which also include a hand written encourage-ment note. Twenty were taken to Hot Springs Chemo treatment center and names returned to us so we can pray for them! Several at GGG took one for some-one they thought could use this extra comfort.

ROY AND JULIA HYETT
Roy and Julia have been associated with Balboa since 2012 and decided to renew their membership.
During his first eight years, Roy’s father’s job took him to homes in eleven different lo-cations in LA, IN, and GA, ending up in Bridge City, TX. Roy graduated HS there and attended Sam Houston State Univ. He was the production manager for his family owned business, Hyett Instrument Company, for thirty years. The firm manufactured instru-mentation for the food, beverage and chemical industries. He took early retirement to accompany Julia to a position in Arizona. Since that time, he has specialized in health
care maintenance. His present position is with Baptist Health in Little Rock, maintaining their power plant. Julia says he can fix anything. His favorite pass time is woodworking. Unfortunately, he has no room for a shop yet.
Julia, too, is in the health care industry. Her dad was with Firestone Rubber in Akron, OH where she spent her early childhood. They moved to Port Neches, TX where she graduated HS and acquired an associate’s degree in nursing from Lamar University. Being upwardly mobile in her profession, she earned a BSN from Texas Tech, and later an MBA with health care emphasis from Univ. of Phoenix. She has the challenging responsibility as Director of Risk Manage-ment and Insurance for the entire Baptist Health System. This encompasses the seven hospitals and the adjunct facilities operated by Baptist Health. This not only comprises such things as malpractice litigation, but all lines of coverage.
Roy and Julia have a blended family consisting of: Jacob, Cody, Cassie and Cristen. They are the proud grandparents of nine-month old Claire Lynn Hyett.
An aside: The evening this interview was completed, Julia and Roy just returned from Houston, TX where Julia and daughter Cassie just completed a 13-1/2 mile relay marathon. Julia had completed the 6-1/2 miles run that morning. They happily attend the Griffen’s SS class, “His Mighty Workers”.
Please say hello to this pleasant couple and welcome them back home.
DON AND DARLENE SPRADLING
We are so blessed to have Don and Darlene as new members. They have blessed us for
nine years with their prodigious musical talent - they were reluctant to leave their many
friends at their previous church. They have been Villagers since 1999.
Don was born in Paris, AR; his parents settled in Ft. Smith, where he grew up. He gradu-
ated Ouachita Baptist Univ., earning a BS in Music Ed/Voice. After duty in the
Army - serving in Korea - he earned his MS/Acctg from Univ. of New Orleans. His
38- year career took him to TX, LA, and PA with such companies as Price Waterhouse
and Gulf Oil. He then established his own CPA firm in Houston.
Darlene was a “California Girl,” born in L.A. She attended USC and Univ. of Houston when her parents moved there.
Providentially, they both attended South Main Baptist Church/Houston where she met her future husband, Don. She
earned her BSE, and taught elementary education for many years in the Houston school district—taking time out to give
birth to three daughters.
A love of music has always been an important part of their lives—playing in the bands and singing in the choirs of the
churches they attended. Don is a prolific reader, having read through the Bible several times. He reads the Bible each
morning as he has his first cup of coffee. Sewing is Darlene’s claim to fame. Her love for quilting took her to Houston
this past month to the International Quilter’s Convention, where 50,000 quilters convened. It was the largest convention
ever held in Houston.
Their three daughters: Sharon, Melodie, and Candy are scattered, and they are blessed with a grandson and a grand-
daughter.
Please say thank you and tell Don and Darlene just how much you appreciate their giving their talents to our church for
these past years.

Christmas is second to none as far as Love, Hope, Faith and Family are concerned. Wishing
you a most joyous and wonderful time of the year to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Sav-
ior, Jesus Christ, with your family and friends.
We have added a few new books to our Christmas collection and hope that you will take time
during this busy season to enjoy them along with all the other media that we offer.
Callie's Mountain is a three-part story, by Veda Boyd Jones, that takes place in the mountains
of North Carolina. Calllie Duncan's grandmother was firm in her teaching of love and faith –
and determined to keep Callie true to her Appalachian upbringing. Callie works as a waitress
in the small resort town where she meets Morgan Rutherford, a country singer of Nashville
fame. He is known by his fans as Trey – but to Callie he is always Morgan.
Debbie Macomber continues her festive tradition with a new Christmas novel, Twelve Days
of Christmas. Friendly and bubbly, Julia, likes nearly everyone, but her standoffish neighbor,
Cain Maddox presents a challenge. No matter how hard she tries to be nice, Cain rudely re-
buffs her at every turn. Julia catches him taking her newspaper and decides that is the last
straw – she is going to break through his Scrooge-like exterior the only way she knows how:
by killing him with kindness. To track her progress, Julia starts a blog called Twelve days of
Christmas.
From the author of The Christmas Shoes and The Christmas Hope, Donna VanLiere, we
have The Christmas Town. Lauren Gabriel spent many years of her childhood in foster
homes, wishing her mother would come back for her and be the family that she needs. Now
twenty years old, she still longs for a place she can truly call home. Her work as a cashier is
unfullfilling, and at Christmas it's unbearable, with the songs and carols and chatter that she
hears throughout the day. At the end of her shift one night, driving aimlessly in order to avoid
returning to her lonely apartment, Lauren witnesses a car accident in a nearby small town.
Somehow she seems drawn to this little town and maybe it has something to do with a young
man named Ben, who puts a note in her sack when she stops at a grocery store for a drink.
She reaches for the note in her bag. It's on a plain green piece of paper. “Sometimes family is
disguised as the neighbor down the street, the waitress at Betty's Bakery, or the bag boy at
Clauson's. Have a great day! - Ben”
