TRANSCRIPT
Greetings! As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, I am excited by how much we have coming up in the Crestview community in the next few weeks. While all of this information is availa-ble in other places, I wanted to highlight some big events coming up, especially ones that may be new to some people. I hope you are able to participate in this exciting season!
Nov. 19 through Dec. 31 - One Worship Service Crestview will only have one worship service at 10:50AM on Sundays, from November 19 through December 31. Nov. 26 - Chrismon Sunday - 9:30AM Chrismons are Christmas symbols that represent different pieces of the Christian story. Rather than Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and snowmen, we create and celebrate symbols that relate to the real meaning of the Advent and Christmas season. Join us in the fellowship hall at 9:30 to make your own Chrismons, which will be hung the following week during the hanging of the greens. We will continue discussing Chrismons and the meaning of Advent at worship at 10:50. Dec. 2 - Bazaar - 9AM-1PM (Lunch 11:30-1:00) This annual UMW fundraiser for mission is a great way to support missions and buy some delicious holiday treats. Come anytime between 9:00 and 1:00 to shop, and come anytime between 11:30 and 1:00 for lunch. Dec. 3 - Hanging of the Greens During the sermon portion of worship on Sunday, Dec. 3, Crestview will be hanging the greens in the sanctuary. As it is the first day of the Advent season, we will ring in the liturgical new year with putting up trees, stringing lights, and hanging the Chrismons made the week before. Dec. 5 - Church Conference - 6:30PM (University United Methodist Church) The annual Church Conference for Crestview will take place on Dec. 5 at 6:30 PM at University United Methodist Church. We are having a cluster conference with University, Grace, and Lowman United Methodist Churches. Please try to come to this event and show your support for Crestview. Dec. 10 - Kids' Christmas Program The children will perform a Christmas program during the worship service on Sunday, December 10. You don't want to miss this special Sunday - the kids will be great! Dec. 17 - Christmas Cantata The choir will perform a Christmas Cantata during the worship service on Sunday, December 17. This special music is going to be beautiful, and you will want to be here to hear the choir sing. Dec. 17 - Blue Christmas, 2PM On Sunday, December 17th, there will be a Blue Christmas at 2PM in the sanctuary. For some people, the Christmas season is NOT the "best time of the year." If you are one of those people, for whatever reason, there will be space for naming and recognizing that reality during this service. If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, you are invited to bring an Christ-
mas ornament to hang in memory of your loved one on the "Memory Tree." There will be a special time during this service for the hanging of ornaments. Dec. 24 - Worship, 10:50AM Crestview will celebrate the 4th Sunday in Advent at 10:50 on Sunday, Dec. 24. This will not be a Christmas Eve service. Dec. 24 - Christmas Eve Service, 6PM Crestview will celebrate Christmas Eve at 6PM on Sunday, Dec. 24. If you have friends or family with children, make a special invitation encouraging them
come to this service. All children in attendance that evening will receive a special costume when they enter the building. They will be invited to participate in the telling of the Christmas story during the service. There will also be the traditional lighting of the Christ candle and the passing the light of Christ at the end of worship.
Blessings, Pastor Kara
==================================================== Keenagers will meet on Friday, December 8th. As is our tradition each December, we will be collecting new,
unwrapped, toys for Fellowship & Faith Ministries. Please plan on bring-ing a toy with you, and come hear how their year has gone and their plans for 2018. The deadline to make your reservation for this meal is Tues. morning Dec. 5th. The cost is $6. If you are unable to attend after your reservation is turned in, please un-derstand we still need to pay Chef Ruth for the meal she has prepared, so you’ll need to get your money turned in to John & Marilyn Marye, or the Church Office.
=======================================================================
The Team of Crestview members who served the noon meal at the Topeka Res-cue Mission on Tuesday, October 24 were Ila Hewitt, Bert Kossler and Glennis Martin. Thanks to these faithful servants so the clients got served their noon meal. The next times we are scheduled to
serve are Tues. Nov. 28 and Tues. Dec. 26 both at 10:30 AM. Please contact Shirley Postier, 246-2308, if you are available and willing. Thank you!

We are still collecting Box Tops for Education. Our own Lois Fowler gathers them up, trims them up and sends them off to Red Bird Mis-sion in the southeastern corner of Kentucky, where they redeem them for items for their school. The collection site for these labels is just outside Pastor’s office on a little table! And the aluminum can “tabs” are being gathered and delivered to the Ronald
McDonald House here in Topeka. Collection is in the same location! Thank you!

Making a Visit to Aldersgate:
Pastor Kara will be
present to visit with
residents on Wednesday,
December 20th at 2:00p
in Parlor 203.
Please plan to stop by for a visit with
Pastor Kara, and bring your friends!
She will have cookies to share!
Our “Christmas Card Box” will once again be available in the Narthex, but PLEASE only put cards in for folks who are regularly seen at Church. We will NOT be able to mail your Christmas cards out to folks, and if they don’t “attend” Church, eventually the cards end up stored. This is a neat way to exchange cards and save a bit of money on postage, but zero fun for a recipient who never receives their cards!

Flower Committee: Thank you for providing flowers for the Altar this past year. A 2018 Calendar will be placed outside the Church Office. If you wish to furnish flowers on a spe-cial Sunday, please sign your name & the event. The Flower Committee will honor your wishes.
I would like to thank the UMW who helped with my Birthday Party, also for the cards, memories and other things. Roy Condley
Thank you for my birthday greetings! Julia Strobel
Thanks to everyone of you who were so kind to send me a birthday card (Oct. 17) this year, especially since it was my “90th”. I had a reception at our own Crestview Church ten years ago for my “80th” Birthday, in 2007. I used the same Guest Book here for my “90th” Reception for my new Aldersgate friends to sign. It was sad to observe that 15 of those who attended in 2007, are no longer with us today. I want to offer a special thanks to Pastor Kara, for her nice personal card, because she hasn’t even met me yet! I haven’t been to our Crestview Sunday Services for several months now. I sold my car, and don’t drive any more. It’s probably best that most of us over age 90 don’t get “under the wheel” anyway. (ha) I really miss seeing all of you Crestview friends, and so would welcome anyone willing to “pick me up”, as I have nec-essary “extra” baggage—(my “Willy Walker”) - also. I appreciated so much all you 14 or 15 Crestview friends, who sent me special cards this year. Thanks a million once again. Love to all, Ellie Davis of 113 Ingleside Aldersgate Village
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To the members of Crestview: I am so grateful to all of you for all of the ways you celebrated Pastor Appreciation Month. Thank you for the cards, gifts, and for the scholarship donated in my name to send children from our congregation to camp this next sum-mer. I am incredibly grateful to be the pastor of Crestview, and I am thankful for the amazing people who make up the Crestview community. Thank you to everyone for your dedication to the church and to God. Blessings in Christ - Pastor Kara
