gious background at all. Weve been able to pray with people to receive Jesusright there in the Meeting Place. My point isnt whats going in the Meeting Place, though. Instead, I want you to realize the great variety of people the Lord is leading into our church. Each Sunday as you come to Worship and Sunday School, be alert to new faces, to people who may look a little uncertain about where to go or how to act. Be sensi-tive to guests and newcom-ers. Take the time to reach out to them. Each of us shares the responsibility and joy of wel-coming newcomers into our fellowship. During the Eas-ter season, I challenge you to pay special attention to that.

Our Easter worship services are, of course, the highlight of our year. While the Resurrection is the centerpiece of the gospel we live out every day of our lives, on Easter we give it special atten-tion and celebration. Well have three great services on Easter Sunday morning. The first will be a simple service at 7:30 a.m. in the Chapel. The message will be the same at all three ser-

vices. Our two large services will be as normal in the Worship Center9 and 10:30 a.m. Sun-day School will be held as usual.

On the Thursday before Eas-terApril 2well have our an-nual Maundy Thursday service. Each year we come together on this night to celebrate the Lords Supper and receive special prayer for healing, along with

anointing with oil. This service is always wor-shipful, prayer-ful and per-sonal. Youll be

blessed. Come and bring some-one with you!

On the Sunday following Eas-ter, April 12, our Sunday School ministry is hosting an Open House. This is how it works. We want our Easter guests to have the chance to connect with a Sunday School class, so on Eas-ter well extend an invitation to them to return the next Sun-day and check it out. On April 12 well have a Sunday School display in the front lobby, along with hosts, to give personal di-rection for people to find partic-ular Sunday School classes to visit on that day. This is a great day for you to bring a friend with

Its our oppor-tunity to connect with some of the many new people coming into our church, and were con-tinually blessed in the conversa-tions we have with our guests. Each week we meet people of all different ages and backgrounds: young and old, families and sin-gles, people who grew up in the Lexington area and others who moved here from around the country. Getting to Know...

    Kandice HanleyMinistry Assistant for Communications

Whats your favorite part about your job?

As a mom of two very ener-getic kids, my work at home is never done, so I like to see things get finished. The thing I like about my work here, is that I get to see things come to completion and feel like Ive accomplished something!

Wheres the coolest place youve ever been?

There is a place in Asheville, NC called the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. You can drink a liquid chocolate truffle there, people. Liquid choco-late truffle.

Whats the last thing that made you laugh really hard?

Jim Gaffigans bit on Four Kids. I may or may not have watched it eight times. You-tube it now, thank me later.

If you could eat anything right now, what would it be?

See question two. Oh, and homemade buffalo chicken

    you to Sunday School.

Finally, let me encourage you in giving through this season. Ga-latians 6:7 says, Do not be de-ceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. As we give, were sow-ing into the Kingdom in a specif-ic way, just as a farmer plants or sows a seed in the ground with the expectation of the harvest to follow. Whenever we give in this fashion, the law of reaping is put

into effect. We receive in our own lives in proportion to what weve sown.

Praying for a great Easter sea-son!

    Pastor Mike

On Sunday, April 12, the week after Easter, we are hosting a Sunday School Open House. This is a great chance for those not yet involved in a Sunday School community to come and visit the various classes currently offered at LBC. There will be information on all of our class-es in the foyers beginning March 29. We hope that you and your fam-ily will take advantage of this great opportunity and get plugged in!

Student Ministry Families, March was a wonderful month for the LBC Student Ministry. Every Wednesday in the month of March, parents gathered to be encouraged and challenged in a D Group that I led called Par-enting Matters. I am thankful we have families who see the potential in the Next Generation of our students. Church, please join us in prayer weekly for our parents and families- this is of incredible importance.

We also enjoyed our annual Ignite weekend. We had over 100 students worshipping God during the first weekend in March. Our students learned what it means to be be rooted in their faith. We are praising God for the life change that happened at Ignite!

April begins a busy spring semester that leads into a jam-packed summer. Par-ents, make sure to sign your students up for The Journey Camp. Also make sure to check out our wonderful family mission trip opportunities to New York City. You can follow all that we have going on through our website or like our Student Ministry Facebook page to get all of our updates.

NYC Summer Missions LBC has a unique opportunity for families this summer in New York City. Were looking to send out two teams to NYC to reach Central Asians and Muslims. Its a great way for families to jump in with our churchs desire to reach these groups for Christ and stay state-side. We currently have two dates, June 15-19 and June 29-July 3, for families this summer. Well be partnering with a ministry in NYC called Global Gates (www.globalgates.info) as we work on sharing the gospel of Jesus

Christ with Muslim communities. If you have any questions or would like to secure a spot for you or your family, contact John Wright at [email protected] or myself. I hope youll join us for one of these amazing trips.

  • Be a Friend When Someone Needs You Most

Has a friend shared bad news with you, and you were at a com-plete loss as what to say or how to help? Do you talk yourself out of visiting a friend or family member in the hospital because its just too uncomfortable? Are you a good listener when someone has a problem? Over the next couple of issues of the Signal, I want to share some insight Im getting from a study Im doing called A Trusted Friend, written by Tim Clinton (Executive Director of the Center for Counseling and Family Studies at Liberty University, Professor of Counseling and Pastoral Care) and Patrick Springle. Im looking forward to giving some easy tips to help us all become better listeners and to respond to friends and family with wise counsel.

In April, we turn our focus to our ARISE (Assist, Repair, Invest, Serve, Equip) ministry. The pur-pose of ARISE is to assist those in our community under financial constraints with needed home and yard repairs. ARISE also provides many with winterization services when they may not be able to afford them. The ministry also partners with several local churches and community or-ganizations to provide repair services across our area. These organizations include, but are not limited to, the Lexington Council on Aging and several local churches. Members of ARISE have also deployed on several trips nationwide to provide assistance during natural disasters. Below is a testimonial from someone in our community about assistance they recently received from ARISE.

My daughters and I were blessed by the men in the ARISE ministry last January. I had several repair jobs I had paid for in the past that were poorly completed. We did not have the money in our budget and, due to a pay cut, were doing well to make ends meet. The men in the ministry were gracious and did far more than expected. They were only supposed to replace tile in the bathroom but noticed the original floor underneath was built poorly and went out of their way to rebuild the entire flooring underneath. The ARISE team rebuilt our rotting porch rails and spent all day blessing my family and our home. I was impressed with the diligence and Christ-like attitude the gentlemen shared as they worked tirelessly for the sheer joy of serving. ARISE ministry is truly an extension of Christs hands and heart.

If you would to learn more about ARISE or become involved in this great ministry, please contact John Wright at 803.996.8836 or [email protected].
