Federal and state policymakers, and the American people as a whole, are being led to believe that the United States can expect decades of energy security and economic benefits thanks to shale gas and tight oil (shale oil). But we are now starting to see a clear pattern as a result of massive drilling in plays across the US that belies the hype.
