Notes from

Jo Ellenhellip March always makes me think about shamrocks and suchhellip I usually remember how St Patrick used the shamrock to tell about the Holy Trinity Each leaf on the three leaf shamrock is for one part of the trinity One for God one for Jesus and one for the Holy Spirithellip all ONE and all connected yet unique in the role in our faith As you enter into March and see shamrocks around you be sure to think about what the trinity means to you and how you might share your faith with others you encounter on a daily basis Sometimes something small and simple tells so much more Lent will be a time for us to Lean Inhellip to worship to study to prayer to time with God to sharing with others to giving morehellip Lean In with us at Lent Love and Prayers Pastor Jo Ellen

During Lent Lord help us grow in faith hope and love mdash ldquoand the greatest of these is loverdquo (1 Corinthians 1313 NRSV)

What does it mean to praise God In the book of Psalms the writers use seven distinct words that

are translated into English as praise However each of these Hebrew words represent a different aspect of what it means to truly worship God

Yadah ndash To revere or worship with extended hands

Halal ndash To boast celebrate and be clamorously foolish

Zamar ndash To celebrate in song and in music

Towdah ndash To give thanksgiving for things not yet received

Barak ndash To kneel before God and bless him

Tehillah ndash To sing a spontaneous song to God

Shabach ndash To commend glory and triumph

In the times the Bible was written when people gathered to worship it was more than just singing it was a declaration proclamation a time to fully embrace praise to God for who he is and what he has done Chris Tomlin and the Holy Roar tour are coming to Nebraska Seward UMC will be facilitating a trip to the concert and worship experience at the Baxter Arena in Omaha NE on March 23rd Chris will be joined by Tauren Wells Pat Barrett Nicole Serrano and Darren Whitehead (Chrisrsquos pastor) Tickets range in price but many seats are still available in the $21-$31 range Let Wess know if you would like to attend with the group meeting before the event for carpool and a meal ldquoThe HOLY ROAR Tour is so much more than just another night of songs Itrsquos an encounter with the presence of the living God I pray it ignites a fire in the hearts of the people I do believe this tour and message will have a lasting impact long after the curtain fallsrdquo ndash Chris Tomlin Join us on this trip to receive a fresh perspective from the worship practices of old Grow in your understanding be inspired and deepen your practice of praise After Easter Wess will host a study on the book written by Chris Tomlin and Darren Whitehead ldquoHoly Roar ndash Seven Words that will Change the Way You Worshiprdquo Stay tuned for dates

On Wednesday March 23 1869

Clementina Butler and Lois Parker met with

six concerned church women in Boston

Massachusetts to inform them of the desperate

health care and educational needs of women in

India Butler and Parker were missionary

wives who had been serving in India with their

husbands

This meeting in March led to the formation of the Womanrsquos Foreign Missionary Society the first of many Methodist womenrsquos mission organiza-tions to address the injustices imposed on women and girls in the 19th century

Their lsquocall to actionrsquo raised funds to send Isabella Thoburn a teacher and Clara Swain a medical doctor to India The college and hospital established

150 years ago remain today in India as a lasting tribute to these two women and to the dedicated support of the Womanrsquos Foreign Missionary Society

Page 5: The Seward United Methodist Faih —FULL TimesMar 03, 2019  · Easter Sunday, April 21st: Sunrise Worship at Junto (outside on the hill or inside if weather doesn’t ooperate) 6:30a.m
