    Chapter 1: The Gala

All the Galas are the same, every year, said Sohila, a young lady whose complexion

bared the sands of the desert complemented by her flowing dark hair and her sea eyes. Sohila

was having an argument with her uncle, a well-aged man who was massive, towering over his

    daughter.

This is not just any gala, Sohila, this one is taking place in the Royal Palace; the

grandest spectacle. All the men of the markets, Generals of war, and even the Royal Kings will

be attending the Gala, said the behemoth man; his voice was the complete antithesis to his

intimidating frame, soft and soothing. They walked into a large hallway; the ceilings were

covered in gold that was met with fine marble.

Besides, dont we have an early morning trip, quipped Sohila. We will make it in

time; my men will be preparing the carriages at dusk, expediting our time and ensuring our

enjoyment for the evening. You used to love coming to the Galas with your parents

Sohilas expression suddenly was frozen; she felt a pinch inside her bodygrabbing hold

of a locket attached to a silver chain around her neck.

As much as I enjoy your company uncle, you dont have my mothers smile or my

    fathers sense of humor.

It is true, I was nevertoo familiar with the sarcasm and wit my brother was endowed

with, but for what I lack in humor I gain in sheer size. Look here Sohila, what happened to your

parents wasnt easy for both of us, you lost a father, and I lost a brother. That was a long time

ago; they would have wanted for you to spend the rest of your days happy, and not torturing

    yourselfwith their memories.

He turned towards Sohila and reassured her with his arresting smile. A man wearing a

red velvet robe detailed with gold suspenders approached the uncle and niece.

Ah, Dreymus and Sohila, so good of you two tojoin us this fine evening, said the

    polished man.

I wouldnt have missed this for the world old friend, kindly responded Dreymus.

Let me show you and Sohila in, everyone is already inside finding their seats and

    enjoying the extravaganza.

They made their way into the grand plaza entrance, a remarkable palatial structure

decorated with marble tiling sequenced with gold trimming, wrapped around the edges of the

    pillars. The marble floors were covered in Persian rugs made from the finest carpenters;

beautiful statuettes filled the large rooms of the Rugal Gods. The Royal servant escorted Sohila

and her uncle through the opulent maze of magnificence; even Dreymus, who was also quite

wealthy on his own, had never seen such grandeur. The pair was led down to the Grand Center

Hall. The servant gesticulated to his staff waving his hand over. Sohila and Dreymus casually

strolled in as they saw a large number of people, socializing and politicizing, all the power

players in the elite Rugal society organized and divided into social circles of aristocracy; the

merchants fraternized amongst themselves: diamonds and fine gold separated them from the rest,

their jewelry glistened like stars, the merchants flaunted their wealth, using the allure of

sparkling diamonds to cover their vast insecuritiesit was known around the inner circles that

the merchants regularly abused opium to settle the overbearing appearance of ambiance. The

Generals wore dark attire with their expressions reflecting the war they had fought stern and

emotionless. A variety of badges and honor was predominantly displayed on their magnificent

robes. These men only knew battle and had sworn oaths to protect the Rugal Empire (they were

respected for their nobility but it was also widely known that the Generals loved their wines).

Sohila looked over to the most powerful group and the apotheosis of Rugal society: the Rugal

Kingsa dozen men who ruled the vast Rugal Empire, their power stretched as far as the

horizon. The Kings also donned robes but there's were colorful, vibrant and exotic, the antithesis

of the Generals, not just in attire, but in lifestyle; the Kings never once set foot into battle, they

were groomed as infants with every possible advantage the new world offered. The colorful

display was met with long beards which aggrandized their stature; they carried themselves with

an air of sophistication and pomposity which was palpable on their demeanor.

I want you to go find your friends, go have some fun and put a smile on thatpretty face

of yours, said Dreymus. He walked off into the distance disappearing amongst the socialites.

Sohila stood their awkwardly for a moment, searching for any recognizable faces, and

then she spotted the Lesion sisters. The Lesion sisters were from the wealthiest family, daughters

of one of the most powerful merchants in the Rugal Empire. Their family represented everything

there was coming from the wealthy elite. Mr. Lesion himself in his early career was addicted to

the black market of gambling which could be found in the alleys of neighboring provinces. His

father had eventually intervened and straightened out the twins father, and put him on the

straight and narrow path. The twins were known for dressing in the most opulent and expensive

gowns in all social gatheringshigh society converging on the scene dazzling everyone with

their money and power under the pretense of saving the poor slaves and rebels of neighboring

provinces. Sohila always felt the paradoxical stench that filled the air and disliked coming to

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    5/88

such things even contrary to heruncles beliefs. Sohila felt the sparkle of diamonds paled in

comparison to the shimmer of the stars. The Lesion sisters immediately recognized Sohila and

walked up to her. Krishen wore a red gown covered in black and red rubies; she was known to

be rude and a spiteful person. Elita was known around the circles as the twin with a heart; she

was obviously resplendent compared to Krishen with her striking blue eyes against her brunette

hair. Elita was dressed in a magnificent ebony gown; the train of the dress was symmetrically

    spread across the spotless floor.

Enjoying the Gala? I know you usually dont Sohila, said Krishen.

If it was up to me, I wouldve skipped on the festivities, said Sohila despondently.

Well I am glad you came, Sohila, everyone is enjoying themselves and I want you to do

    the same, said Elita.

Yes of course, our mother is actually mingling with the queens, trying to find us good

suitors, you know how mothers can be said Krishen. Elita shot her elbow to Krishens side; she

quickly matched her sisters expression giving her a scolding look. Oww what was that for?

Oh Sohila, I forgot to ask you, is it true you are travelling with your uncles caravan?

Ill be heading to the Savage World in the morning with the mining expedition, said

Sohila in her most confident tone. The twins suddenly were struck with horror as both turned to

    each other with haunting expressions.

Did you say the Savage World? mumbled the twins simultaneously. Why would you

want to go there? repeated the girls.

    6/88

My uncle is mining in the mountain region. Rumors are that the villagers have stumbled

on an ancient pyramid. Uncle Dreymus has ordered his caravan to research the area, it is said by

the locals that the pyramid seems to have some sort of mysticalpower.

But there are snakes the size of trees, lions the size of mountains, and god knows what

else is festering and lingering in those damned jungles, gasped Elita with a look of

    bewilderment.

And worst of alldont forget to mention the cannibals. Our fathertold us about them,

they are beasts for men, with knives for teeth and claws for hands, said Krishen; her tone

    changed into excitement.

I did my research, and Im fully prepared and aware of the dangers lurking. Besides, I

read somewhere that cannibals have a particular fondness for red, chimed Sohila.

Before the twins could question any further, their conversation is abruptly shortened by

the interruption of General Rittick. A handsome individual with shiny black hair with an

arrogant smudge plastered over his face. His lineage hailed from a prestigious family with ties in

the Rugal Army for centuries. His appearance is met with a brief ovation; even the war veterans

give their due. General Rittick thanked everyone as he made his way to the girls.

Hello ladies, its good of you to come tonight, I havent seen you Krishen and Elita in

    sometime, said the General.

Hello General, so good to see you back from the war, answered Krishen excitedly.

It is good to be back, Krishen how is Mr. Lesion doing? questioned General Rittick as

his eyes met Sohila; his pupils fixated on her.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    7/88

Hes doing well, but not as good as you from what Ive heard, fighting the Great War

    against those damned rebels.

Well, I have no complaints even though I just recently made an aggressive push into the

Akamaiprovince, the rebel stronghold, bragged General Rittck.

General Rittick, I hear youre looking for a wife. Have you found what youre looking

for? Krishen posed for the General making sure his answer was right in front of him.

Say, Krishen, whos that girl standing beside your sister? Introduce me to her, said

    General Rittck, ignoring Krishens advances.

Who Sohila? Shes Dreymuss niece; shes not important, she doesnt even have

    parents, they died or something.

General Rittick repulsed by Krishens insensitivity brushed her to the side, and stuck his

hand out greeting Elita and Sohila. I believe I havent been introduced to your friend here,

    said General Rittick.

This is Sohila, General, Dreymuss niece. Sohila met General Ritticks gaze with a less

    enthusiastic smile.

How come I have never seen you before at the prior Galas, Sohila?

I dont like to come very often. Rich men gloating do not interest me.

Whats not to like, we are surrounded by the best of Rugal society? asked General

    Rittick quizzically.

Well, if the best holds to your standards, General shooted back Sohila.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    8/88

Sohila is heading tomorrow for the Savage World withher uncles expedition,

interrupted Elita breaking the awkward exchange.

The Savage World!Arent you too delicate for such a harsh environment like that? said

the condescending General. Are you bored or something?

Im sure its not as difficult as navigating these Rugal Galas and the animals that roam

    here tonight.

You need to mind your tongue. May I remind you our glorious Rugal Kings and our

honorable Generals are present in this function. I myself just returned from the Savage World

chasing the rebels. I dont understand what those infidel buffoons want, we feed them, clothe

them, provide shelter, and yet they still rebel against us, said General Rittick with a notion of

    perplexity on his face.

Innocent people who want to be in control oftheir own lives, of course you wouldnt

    understand, said Sohila sullenly.

If by innocent people you mean the rebels, then I can assure you, anyone who doesnt

support the Rugal Empire and swear allegiance deserve to be killed, grunted General Rittick.

He was clearly becoming annoyed with Sohilas wit. Sohila squinted her eyes at the General as

she murmured foul obscenities under her breath.

Maybe you deserve to be an idiot. Well General Rittickit was a pleasure meeting you, I

must find my uncle in this madness. Sohila hoped it would be the last time she would have to

    listen to that man again.

What a peculiar girl, said General Rittick to himself.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    9/88

Wait, Sohila, Ill come with you. Excuse me. Elita leaves General Rittick to himself,

only to find that he is not entirely alone as Krishen blinks wildly towards him. He replies with

    his own spurious wave.

I see Rugals finest General is here, General Rittick, so nice to see you, let me have the

pleasure of speaking with you, said a large heavy man with a vibrant royal blue robe clothed

around him, his extensive gray beard dangled across his laminating round face.

Well, if it isnt King Alamos, my service and my life I offer to you King, answered

    General Rittick.

Oh come now Rittick, you are a hero General, loved by his people, shouldnt you be

busy enjoying the fruits of your success with wine, food and some women. Tell me how is your

    old man doing?

Hes doing well my King, every time he mentions you he speaks very highlybut

forgive my intrusion my King, but I dont want to be like my father, and I say this respectfully.

What do you mean, my young General, has war clouded yourjudgment, leaned in the

    King.

My King, I wish to be crowned King and drink the same wine as you do, said General

    Rittick boldly.

King Alamoss expression transforms from a humorous one to a tense dark stare.

Patience, my young General, you say much but do you mean what you say? King Alamos

leans in closer with his steaming breath hovering over the Generals face; he begins to grin

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    10/88

revealing dilapidated teeth which are surely jagged and sharp. General Rittick takes a few steps

back intimidated by the Kings sudden change in demeanor.

You ever hear of a Kingship, General? catechized the King, not letting go of his stare

into the Generals eyes. General Rittick nods in disagreement.

Its a ceremony of the Kings; we hold one once we appoint a new King, it so happens

we are holding one tonight, revealed King Alamos.

I want to be King, I want land, power, wealth, and to force my will throughout the

    empire, jumped General Ritttick.

This meeting is for men who hold the throne, General you want to be King, Ill show

you the way, grinned King Alamos.

Dreymus was seated in the dining table surround by merchants; he was sipping down his

wine, at the same time ripping apart the steak which was being shredded by his teeth.

Im going to miss this lovely liquid miracle, Strazan, it is a good friend just like you

    are, remarked Dreymus.

Strazan was very similar to Dreymus in physical appearance; both men were very large

and very strong. Sohila had always thought they were brothers separated at birth.

Going somewhere, are ya, guffawed Strazan.

Life is but a journey. My mining crew has stumbled onto something deep in the

    jungles.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    11/88

The Savage World, why do you have ter go ter that filthy land?...between the rebels, the

beasts, and the cannibals, I wouldnt set me foot in ter godforsaken land, asserted Strazan,

looking around at his fellow merchants for approval. The general consensus was reiterated.

I wouldnt go to hell for no reason, unless the devil had a tempting offer, and he usually

does. Im in search of a pyramid, exclaimed Dreymus.

A pyramidin the jungles? I dont ter think so, youre growing senile chasing mirages

    in the desert.

Not in the desert but deep within the jungles where no civilized men go. The locals call

it the pyramid of souls. They believe the pyramid is sacred ground and in its tombs buried are the

gods that created the world we live in.

What do the ter locals and peasants know, theyre just a bunch of animals living in their

own filth. Dogs. And that goes for the rebels and the killer cannibals too.

They are certainly undignified and uncivilizedbut still, there is a method to their

madness. My miners have seen bizarre things happen inside the pyramid and they speak of

untold amounts of gold buried with these gods.

No gold is worth snatching from a cannibals razor sharp claws. And what kind ofbizarre

    things?

I dont know, all Ive heard is stories and rumors from the mouths of beggars and slaves.

I wish to go down there and find out for myself, said Dreymus vehemently.

Sohila and Elita were making their way in the hallway corridor outside the Grand Center

Hall. The silence was broken by Krishen who joined their stroll.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    12/88

I was looking all over the palace for you two. Where are you two wandering off to?

    demanded Krishen.

We were just embracing the silence, said Sohila. The three walked down the empty

    dark corridor.

We arent supposed to be here, if one of the guards catches us, he will have our heads,

    pointed out Krishen.

Sohila, I think Krishen is right, maybe we should head back to where all the guests are,

    exclaimed Elita.

It is awfully dark in here, I wonder where this leads to, said Sohila ignoring the twins.

The girls path is cut short, not because of their own accord, but by a humongous wall; but it

wasnt an ordinary wall, it was an enormous stone, remarkably out of place in this palace.

See, look, dead end, are you happy? Now lets just turn back and head to the Gala where

the light is, stated Krishen. The dead end wall peculiarly shaped, it was old contrary to the

    extravagant surroundings.

    What was that? asked Elita.

The girls hear whispering coming from a few feet behind them. Sohila quickly grabs the

twins by the arms and runs over to a corner, hiding behind the plush drapes.

Who do you think it is? questioned Elita, panicking.

I dont know, it sounds like a group of men, and theyre heading our way, said Sohila.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    13/88

The men were coming into sight, their vibrant attires, long white beards and golden

crowns lit up the dark corridor.

Oh no, its the Royal Kings, shouted Krishen.

Shhh, youre going to get all of us in trouble, demanded Sohila.

What part of the palace is this? questioned the only man that wasnt draped in the

colorful robe. His voice sounded very familiar as if she had just heard it moments earlier. It was

none other than General Rittick being escorted by the Rugal Kings.

This is the beginning of your new life that you wanted General, unless youre having

second thoughts, said King Alamos. The Rugal Kings were inebriated and stumbling in circles,

barely holding their balance, one of the Kings colorful robes slid off his shoulders and fell to the

ground. The girls stood deadly silent, not daring to breathe.

This is, General Rittick, where the Kingship takes place, said King Alamos.

Here in this corridor? This must be some kind of ludicrous joke, said General Rittick.

No not here my young General, replied King Alamos.

The three girls turn to each other; they were all confused as General Rittick.

General, your life will begin anew, like a child being born; you will have entered this

dimension with capabilities your mind has never fantasized.

Are you Kings drunk in your own high, or just plain mad?

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    14/88

General Rittick felt like a child in an experiment, being hazed by the older kids. The Kings were

in a state of hysteria, pointing and ridiculing General Rittick for his blatant benightedness.

My young General, you have been in the jungles too long fighting off rebel slaves, or as

I have been told hiding behind soldiers who are fighting the battle for you, remarked King

    Alamos.

General Rittick was taken aback by the surprised at the accuracy of the Kings description

of his actual bravery and participation in the war against the rebels. Sohila wished she could

pounce on the General and mock him to his face for all of his lies.

This stone is the entrance to our chamber, pointed King Alamos. The girls were still

frozen, not daring to move an inch. Sohila tries to listen and pick up on the conversation, but in

the chanting of drunken men after every phrase King Alamos pours out of his lips, it was

difficult to make out what was being said.

Step aside, General, and see what beholds. King Alamos pulls out a well-crafted dagger

and pricks his finger indenting his skin. Royal blood, General; the only kind that matters.

King Alamos slowly spreads the dripping blood all over the obsolescent stone. The wall springs

to life, a bright light glows following the trail of King Alamoss blood, revealing a sort of ancient

writing imbedded against its stone. The stone gradually crumpled itself into a stone ball,

releasing a powerful energy that was shock waved from its core; all the spectators cover their

eyes because of the light illuminating from the energy. As quick as the metamorphic change into

a solid ball, it evaporates into dust revealing a shadowy entrance.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    15/88

Now may we proceed to our destination or wil l there be any other doubts? boldly stated

    King Alamos.

The Kings make their way into the dark entrance which seemed to lead into the abyss. General

Rittick is the last one in. Some sort of black magic, said the General aloud as he touched the

now empty space. A moment later his shadow absconds into the darkness. Sohila and the twins

stay behind the curtain for a few more seconds to make sure no one else is left behind.

What just happened, I want to leave right now, panicked Krishen.

Im going to follow them, I want to know where they are headed and what they have

    planned for Rittick, exclaimed Sohila.

You must have a death wish, lets get out of here Elita andjust for whatever business

    just occurred, begged Elita.

Sohila reached for the fallen robe and twirls it around wrapping herself in it.

You two go on without me, I will catch up to the two of you at the Plaza room.

Lets go, Elita shes lost her mind, pleaded Krishen, grabbing on to Elitas hand and

nudging it towards the opposite direction, Elita looked over to Sohila, she nods, agreeing with

Krishen, which happened so rarely. The twins bolted down the corridor, far away from the dark

entrance. Sohila covered her face with the hood and walked into the chamber.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    16/88

    Chapter 2: Kingship

Sohila walked into the dark chamber, the air was thick and cold. She noticed a torch on

fire hanging against the side. Sohila reached for it; the light from the fire immediately revealed a

small stair case spiraling down. The ceiling was low, Sohila bent her knees and crept quietly

following the stairs; as she went down, the ceiling became taller and the staircase larger. Sohila

had reached the end of the stairs; light from the fire shone and exposed an enormous entry way

leading to a tunnel. She took her first steps into the chamber and noticed the ground was made

of sand, and stones filled the pathway. Sohila heard the familiar voices from earlierit was the

Rugal Kings, they were ahead but not too far. She quickly put out the lighted flame and tossed

the staff, running up ahead, hiding behind larger stones. The group of Kings came to a halt; the

General glanced at the ancient writing carved against the stone, he had never seen this type of

heliographicbefore. Some sort of ancient Rugal art form is it, what is this place? questioned

General Rittick. Not quite, General, not quite. The question you should be asking yourself is,

how old is this place, and the answer to that isancient, said King Alamus. King Alamus

threw his torch into a hole resulting immediately into a ball of fire sprung upwards, lighting up a

gargantuan statue in the center of the chamber, which was covered by darkness just a moment

ago. The fire rose to the top giving life to the statue like blood does to man. Sohila crept over to

the side and stood behind the King and the general staring up at the statue. It possessed the body

of a man with the head of a beast. What is the King doing? questioned Rittick. Hes calling

upon the master, and his wizards, exclaimed one of the Kings. King Alamus are you to tell me

we are present here in the chamber embarking on a show of illusion? grunted General Rittick.

A white light flashed engulfing the chamber with its brightness; it appeared to be coming from

behind the statue and then a slow fog crept into the air. That always sends a shiver down my

    17/88

spine, replied King Alamus. All of the Kings bent down to prostration, Alamus pulled on

General Ritticks shoulder and he followed. Sohila not trying to abstract herself, mirrored their

    actions as best she could.

Out of the fog, an extremely tall being glided across the ground, hovering above all. It

moved meticulously, across the sand. Then a second cloaked being appeared, identical to the

first; both were wearing long black cloaks, hovering. The room felt nervous and the crowd of

Kings were tense as they began circling close to each other. As Sohila started to stare at the

colossal figures, she was taken aback. My god, she said and took a few steps away from the

anonymous beings. One of the Kings turned around and noticed the smaller person behind them.

He stared at her up and down but couldnt tell that it was Sohila. A third figure drifted in and he

was twice as tall as the other two; his energy had encompassed the chamber, his gravity

    pressured the men back.

The three mysterious beings were all aligned and facing the crowd. Sohila stared at the

hooded figures but saw no signs of life, just emptiness like a black hole. What are these

things? questioned the General. These are not things General, they are sources of power. The

beings started to react, in a slow transformation; the three dark beings shrank in size. The beings

inside were morphing and shape shifting. The black cloaks overshadowed the beings inside.

The shorter cloaks dropped to the ground, the first one hissed, as the Kings could hear the hissing

of a serpents tongue, a black snake with red beady eyes slithered out of the cloak and made its

way around the Kings. The second cloak exposed an exotic woman, whose only flaw was her

soulless eyes. The last and most dominant being transformed himself into a man, not an ordinary

man, but similar to his snake with his reptilian-like posture and his eyes were soulless like the

exotic woman. The snake hissed his way to the front of the audience and then rose like a tree.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    18/88

The womans cloak transformed into the finest gown that even the Kings had ever seen, and the

individuals cloak turned into a grand chair where he was sitting comfortably, dressed better than

all the rulers of the world. All you Kings, hissed the snake. All you Kings, repeated the

snake. We are here once again, The snake gazed into the crowd, each and every King covered

their hearts so the powerful serpent wouldnt see it trembling. King Alamus it is good to see

you, I see you have brought with you an uninvited guest. The snakes beady eyes glanced over

in Sohilas direction. What the bloody hell is going on here? Is this some kind of black

magic? interrupted the nave General Rittick.

You men are the Kings of this world, are we hundreds of feet beneath the surface in awe

of an illusionist? yelled the General. Before General Rittick pontificated, the snake lunged in

his direction and like a sword it penetrated piercing a large hole through General Ritticks chest

leaving him as a cadaver. The snake returned to his position with his tail using the ground as a

foundation. All the Kings gasped and shrieked, but only Sohila remained silent; she knew she

could be next. Whos this fool , that insults my master? demanded the snake. King Alamus

walked over to the serpent, choosing his words wisely. He is new blood, he comes to the

master, he wishes to be King. Show him mercy, said Alamus. The snake turned to the dark

man; he nodded to the snake. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaahhhhhhhh, a loud scream echoed

from the corpse of the General Rittick. The body was squirming in pain, it tossed and turned, the

big hole in the middle of his body was closing and filling in, his intestines began intertwining as

it put himself together. The darknesss, the fire, yelled the General after his wound was

completely closed. He stood up and tried to claw in every direction until he fell down gasping

for air, cradling himself and sobbing uncontrollably. You see young fool, this is not an

    19/88

master? hissed the snake. I believe, I believe in your master, my master, just dont send me

there again, hollered the General. He was sweating and smoke was ventilating out of his pores.

All you Rugal Kings have done much for our ways, but there is still more to be done. It is

imperative that we stay on course and fulfill the masters grand design and the destiny of this

world. However, the master has appreciated what has been accomplished so far, so for this he

will be rewarding you by fulfilling every one of your desires, said the snake. The slithery man

snapped his finger and all the stones and pebbles on the ground suddenly had a golden shine,

sparkling gold and diamonds surrounded the Kings. The exotic woman walked in front of the

snake and started to grab pieces of her flesh and rolled them into a ball. She threw them on the

side and the round balls began shaping into an odd figure. It expanded into some sort of creature

with horns and large wings, then eventually settled into women. Then those women ripped their

flesh and threw them on the floor multiplying and repeating the process over. It expanded into

some sort of creature with horns and large wings then settling into striking women. The ground

burst open with gushing wine carrying the rarest scent straight into the Kings nostrils, enticing

their thirst. The whole room changed into a spectacular scene like the mysterious three did. A

chandelier of fire emerged from the high ceilings. The Kings eyes widened as did their smiles.

The chamber turned into a golden room more extravagant then the Gala before, sand poured over

the wine turning itself into a marvelous fountain. The chambers dark aura quickly lighted as if

the real Gala had just begun. Sohila turned around slowly and ran in the direction of the spiral

staircase; she looked aback and noticed the group of men and the statue becoming smaller. The

snake slithered towards Alamus who wasbusy splashing his face with the wine. Your most

important guest is leaving so soon, hissed the snake. King Alamus raised his face from gushing

wine, and stared at the gigantic reptile following his eyes to the path exiting the chamber

noticing a cloaked figure scurrying out. General Rittick shrieked the King. He was still

visibly shaken from his experience, General Rittick wobbled over to the king. Find who was

here, said King Alamus pointing to the exit.

Sohila felt like a blind woman on the way back in the dark pathway. She noticed the

details from the walls and could even sparingly see the first step in the decrepit spiral staircase.

She turned around to see General Rittick stumbling with the staff. Hey you, intruder,

murmured the General. Sohila panicked, she made a run for the stairs. This only seemed to

provoke the disorientated General; he picked up his speed. Seeing the stairs inching closer she

tried to lunge forward, but she is quickly denied by General Rittick. He grabbed her by the wrist

and launched her to the ground. Her hood fell down, the General instantly recognized Sohila.

You, what are you doing down here? said the General, trying to compose his balance. Sohila

stared at the Generals face; the handsome young confident General had turned into a faceless

old man. His skin was pale compared to his tan tone. The definitions on his face disappeared,

hanging by a thread. General , what happened to you, what did they do you? I died for what

felt like an eternity, said the General. The General in his dizzy state yelled out an empty laugh.

Dont you understandits inevitable! The General walked over to Sohila grabbing her wrist

and pulling her across the sand. No, leave me here Rittick, pleaded Sohila. I have to take

you back Sohila. She tried kicking the General but to no avail because of his monstrous grip.

Sohila desperately waved her hands across the sand for anything; she was awarded with a sharp

jagged rock, striking the stone with her free arm against the Generals forehead. The General

gave a howl, but he did not release her arm. Sohila hit the General once more, this time causing

him to release her. The General fell to the ground, while Sohila sprinted towards the stairs. She

quickly climbs them, spiraling her way to the top. the General picks himself up and heads back

to the snake, exotic women with his head half detached from his body.

King Alamus noticed the empty handed General with a half empty head. I see you were

unsuccessful, but dont you like your new powers? Any other man would be dead with that kind

of blow. It was a girl, I know her, her name is Sohila, the daughter of Dreymus the merchant.

We will take care of this girl, no fret, go enjoy yourself with the wonders of our master,

Generalor should I say King Rittick.

    Chapter 3 Journey

Light slowly entered Sohilas eyes as she opened them. She looked up to see a familiar

room back home. Sohila reached for her head as it pounded against her cranium. Walking over

to the sink, she quickly glanced around to see everything was in place, and headed to the sink to

splash cold water over her face. Sohila worked herself into her attire and left for downstairs; it

was a chaotic scene with slaves, merchants and riders running and crossing in every direction.

The guards were outside preparing the caravans while the slaves were taming the horses. There

was a monstrous elephant with cannon like tusks carrying a dazzling Royal carriage. Ah good,

youre awake, said Dreymus, he was fastening his long overcoat. The maid has prepared your

breakfast, so get to eating so we can get to going. What happened last night? questioned

Sohila. We were at the Rugal Gala, remember, I found you in the Grand Center Hall

disorientated and shaken so I scooped you up and put you in the carriage. Some of the events

last night were pouring into Sohilas mind as she recalled the dark chambers. It became apparent

that she had seen the bizarre. Thinking to herself, her uncle would never believe the ridiculous

story of a talking snake, Rugal Kings frolicking with women who appeared from thin air, and

wine springing forth from the ground. Sohila remained silent and finished her breakfast. Uncle,

what do you know of the Rugal Kings? Well, they are obviously not the gentle kings, but they

do seem to keep the Rugal Empire up and running. We are protected by the Rugal guards and

they have done a tremendous job in securing the borders preventing the rebels from sacking our

provinces. Are they religious men? Well, I cant say that I know, but they do worship.

I had a strange dream lied Sohila. Tell me about it said Dreymus as he gathered his things

rapidly. He looked over some documents then placed them down. I see the Kings entering a

church, or secret synagogue by the end of corridor by the Grand Center Hall. I follow them after

    23/88

they magically enter a chamber, but only after making a barricaded stone disappear with only a

touch. I follow them to the bottom only to see them making prostration to a demagogue of some

sort, a sorcerer with immense power. Very vivid dream and thats all it is, a dream. Dreams

can be very real said Dreymus drifting off, his eyes meeting the image of his long dead wife.

That was a dream, where we are heading to isnt, it really is a nightmare. Now Sohila, stay

inside the Royal carriage, it was built to withstand the jungles harsh environment. Its sturdy

and one of my good friends, General Nazar lent it to me, said Dreymus proudly. As Sohila

heard the word General, a shiver went down her spine as she recalled General Rittick. Last she

seen him his body was on the ground with half his head flapping off. With him dead she was sure

no one else knew she was down the chamber, and there was no need to involve her uncle in the

matter. One of the Rugal guards approached the two; he was dressed in traditional uniform with

a rifle hanging on his shoulder. All the caravans are properly secured, we should be able to

meet border post regulations, said the guard, who had his helmet on very low. The guard was

out of the ordinary; Sohila had never seen ink permanent against the mans skin, only in her

archives. It was queer for a Rugal guard to have any symbolic displays on his skin. She looked

at the man but he was avoiding her eyes. Very well then, I want a smooth crossing into the

Savage World. Getting passed the Rugal guards should be the least of our problems, said

Dreymus. The guard agreed and made a turn and headed out. How long do you think the trip

will be? asked Sohila. We should arrive in a months time and if weather permits maybe even

sooner, Dreymus said reluctantly. Sohila walked outside the residence over to the caravan.

Her bags were neatly packed and aligned at the enormous foot of the elephant. Is this elephant

safe? gazing up at the enormous beast. The best in the Rugal borders, hes General Nazars

personal rider. With the help of a slave, both Sohila and herfather climbed aboard the Royal

carriage. Lets begin our journey, hailed Dreymus. The caravan started to head across, about a

dozen carriages being pulled by horses made its way out. One of the slaves, covered in a turban,

climbed onto the elephant and made his way inside the Rugal carriage. This is Argon; hes

been a slave for me for years. Argon knows these jungles like the monkeys swinging on them.

Argon was a reserved man, his eyes cold and his face decorated with battle scars that seem to go

down to his neck. He looked over and nodded in the direction of Sohila. Argon here comes

from a family of slaves. I found him as a young boy; his family had been brutally murdered by a

cannibal. Im sorry to hear that, sighed Sohila. That was long ago, your uncle Dreymus

helped me in many ways and in finding my way back into this world. Hes a good man. Argon

used to be a dangerous man, still is. As a young boy he hunted down and successfully killed the

cannibal that was responsible, deceptive and sneaky is Argon. Argon what was life like when

you lived in the Savage World? Different than your world but still the same. The Kings rule in

your land, and the cannibals in the Savage World. What are the cannibals like? They are

men of flesh and blood but also they are demons walking the lands, mindless creatures with no

emotions; if you see one I suggest you run, explained Argon. How do the rebels live in the

jungles with the cannibals? asked Sohila. They stay out of their way, the rebelsdont interfere

in their hunting, but I cant lie, many of our people are captured and killed, exclaimed Argon.

Whats this business about the slaves organizing and attacking Rugal routes over the borders?

questioned Dreymus. The rebels are becoming organized and are carrying out strategic

maneuvers, ripping our supplies to the bone. Well as long as we have guns, god will be on our

side, those prehistoric fools use sticks as weapons and water as their god, said Dreymus. Im

not concerned with the rebels, the jungles or even the lions; my main concern is the cannibals.

None of them can do worse than the cannibals, said Argon.

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    25/88

The caravan reached the Rugal border post; it was a complex concrete structure that

stretched for miles. The Rugal borderpost walls were so high and thick, the jungles worst

beasts wouldnt be able to penetrate it. The border post was a bustling business market, with

crowds of people, merchants, slaves, guards and captured prisoners. Serve them right, lock

them up and throw away the key, traitors to the Rugal Kings, shouted Dreymus. The Rugal

Kings are traitors to themselves murmured Sohila. Argon smiled indiscreetly. The merchants

and their camps of miners were waiting in line to pass the borders. Some of the slaves were

selling merchandise right on the border post. Royal guards were patrolling the exiting points,

with long rifles. About a dozen of caravans were entering the Rugal world, carrying vast

merchandise: fruits, meat, diamonds, coal, tusks, bones of large animals. The market was

crowded with people looking forbargains and deals. Ive been traveling this route for a quarter

of my life, I have many friends that are Rugal guards in command here, it will take just a

moment to by-pass this chaos, said Dreymus confidently. He waved to the guards that were

giving out orders. The guard acknowledged Dreymus, and walked over to the Royal carriage.

My friend Dreymus, always good to see you busy at work, said the commander. It is good to

see you, commanderKorbah, what can I do to expedite our journey to the Savage World?

Dont worry, Dreymus, I am always happy to accommodate a good friend of mine. I of course

expect to get five percent, isnt that about right? said the commander, looking around to see if

anyone besides the two had blatantly heard their conversation. Of course, that is our usual

terms of agreement, now how about you help us go over this border so we can carry on with our

journey, said Dreymus. The commander agreed. He started yelling at his guards to make room

for Dreymus caravan. The guards immediately started shoving other merchants and directed

them to move their camp to the side. Argon instructed the elephant rider in their native tongue to

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    26/88

move ahead with caution. The caravan barely squeezed by, the elephant brushed alongside the

exiting point. Some of the merchants yelled in Dreymus direction. Ahh, bloody hell to all ya,

yelled Dreymus towards the other merchants. He reached over for his paperwork and waved it at

the guard stationed at the exiting point, he then signaled over for the pass.

The journey continued: it had been quite some time since the royal carriage had passed

the border post. I think its about time we take rest, Argon, suggested Dreymus, swinging his

large fan back and forth. We still havent entered the heart of the jungle, so we should be safe

here, agreed Argon. He signaled for the rider to stop the carriage. Dreymus got up from his

lazy position and stuck himself out of the Royal carriage, waving to the trailing caravans for a

standstill. Sohila was reading from her archives, and finally looked, to have her breath taken

away as she saw the size of the colossal elephant paled in comparison with the monumental trees

of the jungle. Go ahead down, Sohila walk around, freshen up. But dont touch anything,

nothing in the jungle is as it seems, warned Dreymus. I know, uncle I have been researching

the jungles for some time now, answered Sohila, lifting the veil around the carriage, and

heading down the step ladder. The jungle was hot and sticky. Sohila felt trapped between the

mixture of heat and mosquitos. Even though the Royal carriage was small, it was heaven

compared with the jungle. Sohila walked past the other caravans; the men were drinking water

and unwinding. She gazed around the environment that she had been reading about ever since

she was a child. Sohila recognized everything from the descriptions; she analyzed the berries

and instantly judged the poisonous ones and which ones werent. Sohila reached over to a bush

of purple cherries and grabbed one. She was about to swallow it. Are you sure that is safe,

Sohila? said Argon, walking towards her. Im pretty sure it is, it has no dark blemishes on its

root where the poison should be, and the leaves are a healthy dark green. Very good but what

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    27/88

about that red spot? said Argon, staring at the bush. What red spot? I dont see any red spots,

youre trying to deceive me. I was just testingyour archives to see if there are as accurate,

smiled Argon. Sohila swallowed the cherry, I think Ill be fine. Your uncle sent me to get

you he said we should be moving out so you should head back to the Royal carriage, said

Argon. Besides the humongous flies and the animals shouting in the background, the Savage

World doesnt seem that bad, exclaimed Sohila. This is the outer skirts of the jungle, in

another week or two we shall be travelling much deeper into the jungles heart. Why do you

support my uncle and go against your own kind, the rebels? Argon was taken aback. My

loyalties are to your uncle, he took me in when I couldnt take care of myself. As Sohila and

Argon made it to the elephant, the Rugal guard with the ink on his skin approached Argon. Go

on ahead, Sohila, to your uncle, Ill be there in a minute. Sohila went up ahead as she looked

back to Argon and the slave; they were having a heated exchange with Argon shaking his

    vehemently.

There was a group of slaves wielding machetes up ahead who were clearing the path for

the caravans. One of the machete wielding slaves went off to the right, chopping down large

branches covered in even larger leaves. The slave worked tirelessly he was sweating and the

heat of the jungle was suffocating and overbearing. He pulled out a water pouch and began

drinking from the container, looking around the jungle, noticing the monkeys swinging. He took

another sip from the pouch, gulping down the waters quenching of his thirst. The slave took a

break from his drinking and heard something approaching fast as possible; the sonorous sound

was similar to one of the jungles dangerous mosquitos. The pouch burst in the slaves hand as an

arrow shot right against the tree. The slave turned his head only to see a deep jungle; he felt like

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    28/88

a stranded deer, his predator nowhere to be seen, just soon after another arrow was shot. It

instantly punctured the mans neck, killing the slave instantly.

Not a second sooner three more slaves dropped to the ground: arrows had pierced their

chests sending them flying through the air. The slaves started calling out, letting everyone know

they were under attack. Whats going on up there? asked Dreymus. The guard from earlier

with the ink on his skin came rushing over to Argon; they spoke in frantically in their native

tongue. He argued with the guard, disagreeing. The guard launched himself to the Royal

carriage, but Argon quickly denied him. What is he saying? demanded Dreymus. We are

under attack, but dont worry we have miners and the guards armed with loaded rifles,

exclaimed Argon. By whom? yelled Dreymus. Theyre saying rebels, someone must have

disclosed our location, they think we are from the Rugal army. Its those damn miners, the

rebels must have placed one of them on the caravan. He reached for his shotgun, which was

placed at the side of the carriage. Beneath the Royal carriage, barrages of arrows were flying

striking guards and slaves. The soldiers were loading up rifles, but could not put a mark on the

    enemy.

The arrows were coming from all around them, this time the rebels were shooting arrows

dosed in fire. A loud chant was heard all around the caravans. What are they screaming?

They are preparing to raid the caravans, sighed Argon. The jungle suddenly was encompassed

by roaring and chanting, but this time not by animals but by humans. Hundreds of rebels

charged the caravan, shooting arrows and wielding spears. They quickly cut the distance in half,

storming the guards and attacking. They were barbaric and ferocious decapitating and

butchering anyone in sight. Some of the guards managed to shoot their rifles and kill a few

rebels, but they were overwhelming. The rebels had planned the attack, they were prepared, and

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    29/88

their blows were calculating and precise as is usual for the invading army. Dreymus was

perplexed, he stared at the chaos down below and couldnt figure out how this had happened. He

quickly regained his senses and looked at Sohila. We have to get you out of here and fast. Ride

the elephant out of here, Argon. Argon headed to the riders seat and moved aside the body of

the rider; an arrow had stricken his forehead. He pulled on the straps motioning to the elephant

to bolt; it took crushing rebels and miners alike on its stampede. The Royal carriage under heavy

attack managed to get a few hundred yards until the elephant was caught in a trap, two logs

sprinted against the elephant colliding. The logs went straight into the elephants sides piercing

and puncturing the animal. The fastened ropes around the Royal carriage gave away, it shot

through the air, going past large branches resulting in contact with the ground. The carriage was

destroyed because of the impact; Sohila catapulted and flew hitting the ground floor.

    Chapter 4 Escape

The Royal carriage was completely destroyed. There were several dead guards and

slaves lying around. Sohila woke up to a pounding headache, her vision was blurry from the

attack; trying to stand, she quickly lost her balance. Still light headed from the blow Sohila starts

trying to make out the environment. She frantically looks around and notices a few bodies. The

sounds of the battle between the rebels and the guards echoed throughout the jungle, it was

taking place a few hundred feet away. Sohila tried to stand once again; this time she is

successful, she takes her first step realizing she is in some pain in her right leg. Sohila tries to

recognize the corpses, but they were guards, no sight of Argon or her uncle Dreymus. Sohila

murmured a voice. Hearing the voice she looked up to find her uncle, he is wounded, but not

severely, a spear has settled on his shoulder, piercing the outer skin. Sohila stares in his direction

and immediately loses her senses again as if there was another blow to her head. She crawls

over to him sobbing uncontrollably. Its going to be all right, Sohila. I need you to collect as

many weapons as possible and try to find some water in the rear of the carriage. Dreymus wipes

his nieces tears away from her face, reassuring her. Now is the time to survive my niece,

cmon get your wits together and help me. Sohila wipes away her tears and nods, she paces up

ahead until her uncle is not in her sight. Walking to what was remaining of the destroyed

carriage, she begins searching inside with a sense of alacrity.

Dreymus crawls to a tree and makes himself comfortable he reaches for the spear, but the

pain is too agonizing for him to hold it out. Let me help you with that, said Argon. He is

perched on a branch like an eagle surveying the ground for his prey. Argon, Im so glad to see

you, maybe we can come out of this alive after all. Argon circles Dreymus slowly, he pulls out

a canister of water and does not offer it to Dreymus. Well, you see, I will come out of alive, but

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    31/88

I cannot say the same for youold man. Whats the meaning of this, Argon? Well you see,

Dreymus, this act of sabotage was coordinated by me. You double crossing snake bastard,

after all I done for you. What have you done, you took pity on me, and for what so I can serve

you for the rest of my life. I dont think so Dreymus. The Generals of the Rugal Army offered

me title and lands for turning your caravan over. I did not hesitate for a moment. You piece of

crap, my niece was on this expedition, you risk her life. Sohila, well you see the thing is old

man, all this wasnt done for you, killing you is just an extra reward. Your niece has seen

something she wasnt supposed to see, and now the Kings want her dead. Over my dead body,

Ill kill you before you lay a hand on her. Over your dead body? Well that is what I preferred.

Argon placed his foot on top of Dreymuss hand. Pulling out his dagger, Argon pressed it

against his throat. I treated you like a son. I wasnt your sonI was your slave, and now I am

your death. Argon split open the Dreymuss neck as his blood splattered across his shirt and on

the ground. I found some water, and a loaded rifle, called out Sohila. Argon jumped behind

the bushes out of Sohilas sight. Sohila walked over to her uncle to find him dead. She drops

what she is carrying and barely controls herself to stand, looking at his neck. Sohila defensively

looks around but sees no one. No, you cantleave me, I have no one, cried out Sohila. She

held on to him for a few more moments, examining his wound, she looked around to see if the

murderer is nearby, she silenced her tears which was returned by the howling of rebel slaves.

Sohila laid down next to her uncles body, ready to give up on life, just as life had given up on

her. Footsteps could be heard approaching the two lifeless bodies. Sohila opened her eyes. She

wasnt alert but relaxed, looking up to see it was Argon, he was grabbing onto his shoulder,

pretending to be injured. Walking over to her, he reached for the blade that just took her uncles

life. Standing on top of her, he is a second away from killing this girl, but he quickly realizes,

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    32/88

she is already dead. The rebels could be heard marching towards them as Argon stared into the

distance, then he looked upon Sohila as he placed his dagger back in its sheath. Sohila, we have

to hurry, the rebels are going to search this area and we dont want to be here, exclaimed

Argon. I dont want to go anywhere, I want to remain here, leave me. Your uncle would

wanted for you to live, there is not telling what torture they will put you through. He tried to

pick up Sohila but she clinched to her uncle. I dont care, I want to die, their torture will have

no bearing on me, get away from me. Argon forcefully grabbed hold of Sohila and takes with

him the items placing them in his backpack. What are you doing? We must go Argon held

her with his tight grip and runs into the jungle.

The rebel slaves approached the once sturdy Royal carriage; they were dressed in rags

with war paint all over their faces. The rebels checked if the bodies were dead by sending their

spears right through the corpses to make sure. One of the rebels who had more bones and fangs

tied around his neck compared with the others barked orders in his native tongue and his men

followed suit, heading back to the caravans. The commanding rebel fixed his eyes on the jungle,

and then turned around. Numerous guards were dead, caravans were toppled over, and there

were some men alive but severely wounded. The rebels were searching the caravans for booty,

weapons and food. The alpha rebel glanced over at the wounded guards, he nodded to his men,

they surrounded the wounded like a pack of hungry wolves, swinging their machetes at them,

killing them instantly. A trumpet was blown, all the rebels stood at their position, they watched

as a Royal carriage similar to the one Sohila had been in made its way to their location. The

carriage door opened, it was carrying two royal guards and a young broad shouldered General; it

was Rittick. The General took a step out of the carriage. He was covered in Royal garbs much

different than his general attire; his outfit was embroidered with gold linen. His posture wasnt

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    33/88

the same either; Rittick appeared large, stronger, confident, he truly was a Rugal King now. I

love this, rebels and Kings working together for a common cause. Who said the savages cant

behave like civilized men? Not I! Now if only we can get the rest of your people on the same

page, gawked Rittick. The commanding rebel walked over to the newly crowned king. We

have done what you asked, have you done what you have said? squawked the barbaric rebel.

Now hold on just one second, I see bodies of men, but I dont see a young ladys body. The

deal was for you to kill the girl and her entourage, Warlock. It seems she had help from one of

your own, replied Warlock, staring grimly at King Rittick. Rittick walked around analyzing the

damage that was done by the rebel barbarians. One of my ownoh yesit seems he isnt

herehe must be waiting for right opportunity, a snake gains the trust of its prey, then silently

strikes, said King Rittick. What shall we do now? questioned Warlock. Nothing, we will

wait for his signal, where is her father? Warlock signaled over to the Royal carriage, Rittick and

the rebels made their way over to the Royal carriage, the General and the rebels made their way

over to Dreymuss body. King Rittick flashed a grin as he stared at the body. My lord will not

be happy with her escape, but we will capture and kill her. As for the bodies let them rot here,

Im sure there will be some hungry beast roaming looking to fill his appetite, not to mention the

cannibals. My king, forgive me for questioning but why is this simple girl important to the

powerful Rugal Kings? I dont remember consulting with the likes of you barbarian, but if it

will silence your beckoning, she has seen things which she wasnt supposed to see. Warlock

looked over to his men and in their savage vernacular ordered them to search the jungles. If

your man dont find her, we will and when we kill her, you will take me and my people to the

land of the jewels and crowns, and away from this life, demanded Warlock, piercing directly

into Ritticks eyes, not caring of his new status as King. King Rittick answered with his own

stare, his eyes darkened and his pupils dilated, glowing red. Warlock and his men break into

groups instantaneously, they spread out and ran into the jungles shadows, chanting and hollering

death, letting the prey know the hunters were hell bent on finding them.

Sohila gasped for air; she and Argon had been running for their lives without stop. The

jungles rough surface had pained her feet, and as if that werent enough her heart was mourning

for the loss of her loving uncle. Her mind, body and soul were weakened, and the jungle was a

perfect place for her to die, with all the deadly killers lurking and waiting to encompass her as

quickly as she wanted to give way, and leave behind her sorrows. Argon was up ahead,

swinging the machete, clearing a path for them. His senses were alert and fixed on anything that

was moving, hissing or crawling. Turning back to see a haphazard Sohila, he noticed her

gloomy eyes werent alive, just staring into the wilderness, with no care. Only the jungle and

Argon knew of his secret, he had betrayed the only man that had cared for him for some land and

entitlements, but he was surely not remorseful: his heart was callous and hardened years ago as a

child, fighting and surviving for his life in these very same jungles.

A few problems lurked in Argons head: finding water, avoiding injury for it meant

certain death, and the biggest dilemma, when was he going to betray Sohila. He was like the

jungles they were maneuvering, treacherous, deceptive and deadly. Off in the distance, the

hollering of the rebels led by Warlock could be heard, they were inching ever so closely to their

target. Theyre gaining ground, the rebels are on our tracks, we must hide ourselves, says

Argon. He reached for Sohilas hand, but she pulled back. Argon was appalled, here was this

girl that he should have killed long ago, and she just wanted to hand her life over to the

treacherous Savage world. Argon felt something he hadnt felt in a long time, his consciousness

was dueling with his evilness. Argon threw Sohila over his shoulders without much of a

struggle; he searched high to look for a tall tree so they could climb for cover. He ripped a long

twig, peeling it in half, creating a binding rope, which in turn he tied around his waist. Argon

tightened the twig with speed; racing against the rebels fast approaching footsteps. Struggling to

the top of the tree, Argon flicked Sohila on to a strong branch and perched himself, scouting the

jungle floor. The rebels had arrived; it was a small group of four, headed by Warlock. Argon

couldnt hear the rebels; they were whispering and checking the grounds for signs of any

    movement.

Dont make a sound, or it is our death, whispered Argon to Sohila. Warlock signaled

two of his men to check the surrounding trees. He barked orders and his followed suit. I have

an idea, but you need to stay here, and remain very still and silent. Sohilas face was blank and

emotionless; she stared into space. I know that revenge can bring a man back to life. Argon

slowly crept and made his way into another tree and with one last look at Sohila, he disappeared

into the jungle. Staring down at the sharks circling around her, but not in a vast ocean stranded,

Sohila dangled on top of the tree. Wanting to give a shout and disclose her situation so her

predators can put an end to misery but she couldnt find her voice. Sohila thinking to herself if

she was going to die it would be on her terms not by a bunch of rebels. Then her attention was

caught by a figure dancing in the shadows without anyones notice; it was Argon. He was

situated behind the bushes like a lion cat moving ever so graciously against the backdrop. The

rebels couldnt have guessed their lives were an inch away from the claws of death. Argon

tackled the rebel closest to him. He was totally unaware of Argons positioning like a steer

unexpectedly hunted down by its predator. Argon lunged forward rushing on the rebel with a

dagger out targeting his throat, very similar to the devastating wound ofher uncles neck. Before

the rebel even had a chance to scream his last breath, Argon slit his throat smoothly. The rest of

the clan turned around but they didnt see a thing, not even their comrade. Warlock pierced his

eyes through the jungle, he gave a crooked grin and yelled to his men that they were being

hunted. The barbarian rebel seemed to enjoy this, kneeing lower with both his axe and sword in

gladiator position. Waiting for the predator to pounce and make a deadly mistake; like a serpent

striking its poison. A few shades of Argon maneuvering appear, but he hid quickly. And then

there he was. He slouched towards the ground, but his upper body rose with the dagger, his eyes

fixed on a specific point on the rebels body to spread his venom. He sliced the rebels ankle,

immediately dropping the large rebel to the floor; the rebel screamed alluding to Warlock and the

other remaining rebel. Warlock sprinted towards the wounded man, but as he passed through the

lengthy bushes he found the rebel dead, and the dagger left placed in his chest. Warlock quickly

turned over to his friend who was panicking, his eyes were dancing in his head searching for this

hidden beast. Warlock suddenly revealed the same grin he had on before this moment. He let

down his axe preferring his small dagger, his eyes corner into the other rebels direction. He

threw his blade full force aiming straight for his comrade, but the blade didnt strike his friend,

but a foe hitting Argon as he jumped to the side. Reluctantly Argon with his hawk eyes tried to

avoid the fast approaching blade, but it penetrated his lowerleg wounding Argon. You move

very well for a slave, but not well enough, you understand, championed Warlock. Argon

reached for his wound, trying not to show any pain but he knew he was a wounded animal in a

trap set by wolves. You suppose to kill the girl or at least lead her directly to King Rittick,

said Warlock. I was planning exactly that, but you see she escaped and I was on hertrail,

calmly said Argon. Then why did you attack us and kill my men? Warlock was angered by

Argons aloofness. Your men were giving away my trail. Every time I was this close to

capturing her, your men would come in screaming and hollering like imbeciles, explained

Argon. You are lying, you mean to deceive me, and double cross King Rittick. How about I cut

your tongue out then you will tell me where she is, growled Warlock. If I wanted to double

cross Rittick why would I have killed her bloody uncle, confessed Argon. Sohila suddenly

came to life, she felt all her emotional frustration and emptiness vanish, she felt life resurge in

her in the form of revenge and hatred. Argon was right. She looked down on the men and stared

into Argons face. Revenge does bring man back to life, he acknowledged back with no

empathy. I killed him, and was awaiting for the right opportunity to kill her; your men scared

her off into the jungle. So say, if youre right and we did, after killing my men why should I let

you live? Ill find her and kill her myself, proclaimed Warlock. If you kill me then Rittick will

have you and your men skinned alive. The King wishes to use my services, my death will lead

to yours. Warlock thought momentarily, he took one last glance over the jungle then quickly

turned to Argon. We will take him to King Rittick, if what he says is true then let the King deal

with him, but ifyoure lying, I willskin you alive, threatened Warlock. As for the girl, I will

send a search group; in short time they will find her dead or alive. If we dont kill her then surely

this jungle will, smirked Warlock. The rebel tied up Argon and dragged him across the floor.

Argon took one last look over at Sohilas direction and noticed she wasnt there.

    Chapter 5 The Jungle

Sohila was running full pace across the bushes and trees, leaping over logs and swamps

with her face painted with anger, life and meaning, only turning back to see no one trailing her,

she was on her own now. Sohila slowed down and took in some deep breaths, her hands

wrenched, and her posture exhausted. The sun was settling against the back drop, slowly night

would replace day, masking the jungles predators. Taking in a long look, grasping where she

was, and under what extreme circumstances she had just been through. Life was completely

normal, and then all of a sudden it was coerced and violently taken off course. Sohila had felt

this tornado of emotions before, when her parents died. A tear jerked down her cheek, but she

quickly wiped it off, she wasnt going to sit here and feel sorry for herself anymore, she knew

she had to live another day, thats what life had taught her. Ill need to find a place to sleep,

somewhere safe and high off the ground, thought Sohila to herself. Walking over to the nearest

tree, she tried jumping on top reaching for the large branch as support, but it only lead to her

failure. Looking around her feet for any ideas, she noticed a log that was lying a few feet from

its base. She jolted over to it; with all her strength she gave a push, rolling the log ever so

closely toward the large tree. Her hands sore and swollen she gave it her all, refusing to quit, and

stubbornly rolling it successfully to the base of the tree. Climbing on top of the log, she then

wrapped her arms around the branch with a struggle, managing to grab hold and swing her body

upwards, after a few attempts; Sohila was able to sit aright on the sturdy branch, she was now

safely above ground out of harms way. She cautiously crawled to the end far away from where

it originated. All the time that it took her to climb atop, night fall suddenly made its entrance.

The jungle was dark and quiet. Even the predators needed rest, and so do the prey. Sohila

reached for her stomach, a grumbling sound preceded, tired and feeling like the longest day of

her life worsened as she anticipated its exit with the sunlights return. Her eyes fatigued, she

retired against the branch and willingly submitted to sleep.

Sohila fell into a dream: she was attending the ball it was taking place in the jungles. The

animals were there but they possessed human qualities and traits, her parents were present as

well as her uncle Dreymus. A peculiar man was there too, who was deviant and mischievous. He

kept staring at a clock and mumbling about the right time, lightening on time. Sohila turned to

face the peculiar man, he was the only one not paying attention to the snake but eyeing only

Sohila; he was frail, but wore a crown, he shouted at Sohila instantly awakening her. The sun

still wasnt up yet. Something wasnt accord; hearing noises in her vicinity, she squinted through

the dark around her and touched the surrounding branch but nothing. A thunderous roar was

heard, then it came to her, she realized where the noise was coming from, there were a pack of

hyenas, around the base of the tree. It wasnt clear because of the darkness, but it seemed like

they were feeding on an animal that they just had killed. They were growling and roaring over

positioning where the luscious meat was. If any one of them caught wind of Sohila, she would

be the one next to be devoured. Sohila remained still, slowly crawling backwards so the hyenas

dont pick up her scent. The hyenas halt their feasting on the cadaver, all of the dog like ears

raise, they begin searching and detecting any sudden movements. One of the hyenas raised his

head and stared right into Sohilas eyes; he noticed her still at the branch thru the darkness. The

hyena began howling, snarling and barking towards Sohilas direction. The pack ofhyenas

follow suit, which lead to a hyena howl fest. They begin leaping high off the ground and

clawing against the tree. Scratching against the bark, they would love to just reach right up and

tear Sohilas body to shreds. Flashing her dagger, she aggressively stroked the tree hoping to

wound the leaping hyena. The hyenas grew impatient; their attempts became more willed and

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    40/88

organized, with just inches away from leaping onto the branch that held her life. One of the

relentless hyenas hopped on to the log that Sohila herself used to climb the branch; the hyena

anticipated the range of its prey. He pounced up against the tree, its claws kept him hanging on

the branch with his feet slowly lifting him up. Sohila quickly reacted by striking the hyena with

dagger on its paws. The hyena howled and fell flat to the ground. With its injuries it was one

less killer she had to confront. A thunderous roar proceeded right behind the hyenas, and all of

the expressions on the pack changed from hunter to prey. It seemed with all their shouting and

jumping they alerted formidable hunters. A pack of lions descended upon them, the hyenas were

horrified and surrounded. The lions circled the rat dogs; they looked hungry with drool gushing

form the mouths ready to devour the hyenas. The whole night, sounds of ripped flesh grinding

thru sharp teeth echoed thru the night. Sohila was able to get some sleep, but then the occasional

roar startled her. The sunlight finally cracked into the darkness, revealing the sun that was

    desperately needed for life.

Sohila awakened and assessed her area; she quickly stared down to see if the lions were

still around; and they were. The lions seemed to tire themselves out, and with their filled

stomachs chose to take a nap right beside the tree; the three lions were snoring. The hyenas

carcasses were lying around with a field of mosquitos circling them. The lions planned ahead

and left just enough meat on the dead animals for a fulfilling lunch. As for the moment now,

they were sound asleep. Sohilas stomach began rumbling aloud, she hadnt eaten the night

before either, extreme hunger and dehydration were starting to settle in. Looking around the

bushes, she didnt find anything within arms length, like cherries, to quickly eat. I have to get

down, and find water, thought Sohila. She broke off a large sized twig and tossed it across the

jungle floor away from the lions. The impact of twig on the ground does not disturb the sleeping

animals, they were in deep sleep. Crawling over to the tree, she noticed her hands were shaking.

Sohila climbed over to the tree down the tree and reached the log, and no lions had noticed. So

far her plan had been successful; but for walking away from three gigantic sleeping cats was

another matter. Tiptoeing cautiously, she crept her way across the lions, and a thunderous roar

shook the jungle floor. Sohila turned around to see the lions still snoring and possibly dreaming.

She finally crept enough where she was a safe distance from the lions to make a run for it. She

immediately began running into the jungle, and looking for water, the reason why she had just

walked past that ordeal. Sohila searched frantically for puddles, drops of water against leaves,

any signs of the natural resource. After several minutes of searching, she found a small puddle

of brown water that appeared to be created by a footprint of some kind of beast. Jumping face

first into the puddle, she gulped down the liquid and the filth that came along with it. Sohila

didnt care; her body was in dire need of water. Palming the water a few times, she then limited

herself to a few sips knowing full well she could easily become sick because of the waters

inhabitants; anything was okay in a moderate does she had learned. After a while, Sohila rose

off of her knees deciding that if she was going to eat anything she was going to have to catch it

and kill it. Although the water was dirty and infected, it had served its purpose buying her some

time to have enough energy to roam and find edible food before ultimately losing consciousness.

She reached for her dagger realizing that she had wounded that hyena because her life was in

danger, and now she had to kill to survive once again. Walking straight ahead, Sohila was alert

and attentive, paying attention to her surroundings for any sudden movements and snakes on the

ground. Remembering a story her uncle once told her, he was in the jungles with an escapade

when they were attacked by ferocious mosquitos the size of vultures; her uncle told her that the

swarm of insects devoured four of his men, stinging them hundreds of times. Sohila was

  • 7/30/2019 The Seer: Pyramid of Souls

    42/88

dreading that it was the mosquitos nearby. She picked up multiple sounds, a cacophony of roars

in the background between beasts clashing, but she avoided that direction at all costs. If she ever

felt uneasy or scared, Sohila would climb the nearest tree, becoming adept; after numerous

occasions where she felt she was in danger, she would naturally climb the tree. Finding food

was the antithesis of climbing, she had no success in setting traps or throwing her dagger at any

small animal in the distance. The hours went slow and her hunger grew intense, Sohila was

fatigued, and the sun hitting the jungle made her feel suffocated. Pulling out her dagger and

staring at its reflection, she saw her malnourished face. Tightening her grip on the dagger,

Sohila emitted her last energy to find food; she scoured the jungle floor for any sign of

movements, and after a few moments she noticed a small rodent digging a hole in the by a tree.

Drawing closer to the armadillo, she eyed the rodent; it wasnt the steak dinner her uncle would

prepare but it would have to do, and she only had one shot before alarming the armadillo. The

dagger struck into the rodent killing it clean. A big wide smile plastered on Sohilas face as she

ran towards her dinner. Picking the dagger out, she checked the rodent and smelled it for any

bacteria; dusting it off, she noticed the armor surrounding the animal. A howling chant surfaced

a hundred feet away. Sohila recognized the hollers, it was the rebel search party Warlock had

promised. Sohila quickly took cover and hid between the bushes. A few minutes later, the

search party was in clear sight; about four of Warlocks rebels were strolling thru, and they were

heavily armed and communicated to each other in their native dialect. Sohila didnt become

scared or nervous, her eyes met the water they were carrying in the pouches, and some necessary

items in their packs. If only she could somehow get the water, Sohila pondered looking around,

nothing specific, just a plan, she stared at her dagger, but then reminded herself that they were

four of them. Clearly not having any advantage, she thought it would be wise to remain put and

    43/88

let them pass, no way would shebe able to take the water from these barbaric men. You cross

the line, yelled an anonymous voice. Sohila looked over but didnt see anyone, nor did the

rebel men, they look back and forth, and then at each other, they begin roaring and reach for their

weapons. You should leave now the voice repeated. It could be seen now, up ahead was a

figure. The rebels disarmed themselves, they are not threatened by the mans surprise. One of

the rebels walked toward the figure, he picked up his speed and dashed with his dagger out. The

figure remained still and aloof, then with no warning; the figure winged what appeared to be a

sword. What followed was the rebels head coming clean off his body and on the ground; soon

after his body proceeded. The other three remaining rebels face each other. Taken aback by the

anonymous figure, they draw out their swords and run straight to it. The figure drew his sword,

and used it perfectly, striking blows in the right place with accuracy. The three men were

disfigured and dead. Sohila was frightened but she continued not to make a noise; breathing was

out of the question. The figure reached for the mens water and backpacks, and began helping

himself to their belongings. You can come out now said the figure out loud. Sohila was

stunned, the mysterious person knew she was hiding in the bushes. She reached for her blade

and walked out of the background; she walked closer to the mysterious person. Dont be afraid

child, I wont hurt you said the figure. If I wanted to kill you, I would have. The figure lifted

the hood off revealing rare beauty, it wasnt he but she was amazing to stare at, her skin was

snow white, her eyes the color of the very jungle. And her hair appeared to have its own life,

like leaves it bloomed out of her magnetic face. My name is Faith. You must be very hungry,

maybe even more so than those lions that paid you a visit last night. Come with me so we can

walk and talk. A long walkinto the jungle. For the second time now in this jungle, Sohila saw

the darkness engulf the day. Faith had stopped in front of a large oak tree surrounded by a large

    44/88

swamp. The swamp was filled with its own residents, one that looked like a large anaconda.

Well, we are here, this is my home, dont judge the outside, the neighbors are pretty nice. A

small hole dead center of the tree began to expand, the bark of the tree was crunching and

colliding, the hole had become a large circular entry way into a grand showroom of antiquity.

Sohila was astonished to find Persian rugs aligned against the hard wood floor, with lavish

furnishing and even a grand staircase. I can see by your reaction that you think this to be a

dream, but I can assure it is not. Besides you have seen this type of magic before, havent you.

She thought about the how miraculous this tree was, but then it occurred to Sohila, with

everything she had seen nothing really surprised her. Where are my manners, let me get you

some fresh water, and get you into clean clothes. Faith walked over to an empty space of the

tree house, reached for what seemed just the flat surface of a bark. She pulled across and the

bark opened full circle a wardrobe filled with gowns, and dresses, in different colors. Sohila

walked over to the massive closet, and chose the one that was the least abash. Im sure after all

you have been through you would want to wear something comfortable, said Faith. She pointed

into the wardrobe and Sohila quickly went in and slipped into comfort. She felt relieved after

seeing her old dress covered in bad memories and dirt on the floor. Sohila stepped out of the

wardrobe, and smelled the sweet scent of food, and she couldnt help herself but drool over its

    empowering scent.

It was coming over from the dining area; two plates were pristinely and properly set. The

plate was covered with everything ranging from chicken, corn, steamed vegetables; Sohila jolted

to the meal and with hurry began to eat. Faith was unexpectedly absent, but Sohila didnt mind,

she just wanted to make sure to herself that it was worth walking past those lions. The plate was

nearly naked, Sohila quenched her thirst with the cold water, and admired the way the water

went down in her body, nourishing every organ which was depleted and dehydrated. After

finishing her meal, Sohila searched around locally for Faith. She suddenly appeared, gracefully

entering the room like she had done prior in the jungle. How did you learn how to fight like

that? asked Sohila. If you want tosurvive here, you have to be quicker than men and beasts.

Who are you, what are you and why were you following me? I told you, I am Faith, I have

been living in these jungles for a long time, and I followed you until I thought it was appropriate

for me to introduce myself. Listen, thanks for the meal and clothes and of course for saving my

life, but I thinkI have overstayed my welcome. Wait...you cant leave, you will find it very

difficult to navigate those jungles. I did fine last night, I think Ill take my chances. Sohila,

that is your name, right? This place is safe for you, nothing out there is. I need to go. Sohila

walked over to the opening of the tree, it occurred to her that she was losing her balance and

becoming drowsy. What is going on, you put something in the water, youwitch. Sohila

reached for the furniture and slowly but surely made her way to the ground. Faiths voice could

be heard in the background: You needa good nights sleep and some rest, child, and Ill say

when you are ready to leave assured Faith.

    Chapter 6 Abyss

Argon was hanging against a wall chained with shackles on his ankles. There was a

ration of food close by, he was badly beaten with his fresh wounds glowing red in the darkness.

A guard walked in, with spear in hand. He was broad shouldered and his cloak bore the symbol

of a King. Argon, my old mischievous friend, it seems we always meet in different

circumstances; not long ago I was a General, and you a slave, now Im a King and, well, youre

still a shackled slave, snarled Rittick. In days where men honored their word, I dont see those

days exist anymore, said Argon. The newly minted King laughed off Argons remark. You

were supposed to kill the girl, you had plenty of opportunities to kill her, yet you let her go,

anything, a limb would have been nice or her head. She is good as dead anyways, how long do

you thinkuntil something kills her, if its not the lions, then surely the cannibals. Well, you

see, my rudimentary friend, King Rittick slowly paced in front of Argon, The master doesnt

believe that will happen, he has given us a prophecy, and she has to be killed immediately, not

tomorrow. Nothing will save her from the cannibals, repeated Argon. You fool, you were in

striking distance from her, you should have had killed her, yet you let her go. I just killed her

uncle, she came and saw him dead, I wasnt going tokill her right then and there. My master

said she had a certain charm that many men wouldnt resist, but for the barbarian Argon to be

charmed, that is very impressive. You said I would have a chance at being a General if I did

this foryou. I killed the man th
