The Rules of Filming!

You must stay at once side of the subject or actor you are filming at

all times. This is done to ensure that the audience is orientated

correctly and so that the shot does not confuse the audience.

If you cross the 180 degree line then you MUST show the shot

crossing, not just cut to the other side.

This is a type of edit in which you cut back and forth between two shots so that you can see both sides of the scene. You position both cameras on the same side of the 180 degree line and then edit the

film you have to include both shots. This is used often in conversation, switching from speaker one to

speaker two as they take turns in the conversation.

This rule observes the fluidity and continuity between two shots. You have to make sure that the two shots taken follow on from each other

and are believable and realistic.

This is a type of edit which allows the film to change from the sequence playing to and object or character which gives the audience a clue about the narrative.

For example, a person out of breath from running, then a cut away to a clock shows that they are late.
