International Monetary Fund
Bergljot Barkbu will present a recently published IMF Staff Discussion Note on the economic effects of the
refugee influx. The paper shows that, in the short run, additional public expenditure is likely to have
a modest positive impact on GDP, primarily in destination countries. Over the longer
term, the impact on growth and public finances will depend on
the speed and success of integration of refugees in
the labour market. The presentation will focus on policies to foster the refugees’
economic integration.
A sandwich lunch will be provided, starting at 12.30.
