TUESDAY
In this world the" one thing supremely worth having is theopportunity to do worthily a piece of work the doing of whichis of-vit- consequence to the welfare of mankind,
Roosevelt.
Havinci decided that Christianity makes no distinction inthe race, color or nationality of mankind, the Honolulu Y.M. C. A. is in a position to go forward and accomplish some-thin- rj
for the common good.
FEDERAL FUNDS
Dclctiate Kuhio's splendidof the Tcrritorv under the Federal appropriations for harbors, defenses, public buildings, scientific investigation ofleprosy, and a general adjustment of these islands to thestatus of a Territory gaining all the benefits ofan integral part of the Union, would be crowned with stillgreater achievement If he could return from the comingshort session of Congress with the report that the Dolliyer-Dav- is
bill had become lav; and Hawaii had secured its fullshare of Federal funds under that law.
There is no fear that the Delegate will do his utmost toimpress upon Congress the great importance to these 'is-
lands of this Federal legislation. To make his effort more effective, however, he must have
the aggressive support of the people of the islands. Mem-
bers of Congress who will hear the arguments of the bus-
iness men and educators of the mainland must also hearfrom the people of Hawaii that this particular measure goesfar toward solving one of our serious educational problems.Under the Dolliver-Dav- is bill as it is now before Congress,Hiqh schools for industrial training would be established onevery island of the group and perhaps more than one oneach island. Throuqh these institutions the youth of theland could gain the training that will put them in a positionto make the most of the opportunities presented in this landof agriculture.
Hawaii has always made the just claim tiat it should re-
ceive for educational purposes a share of the revenues paid
the Federal Government through our custom house and theinternal revenue department. , ,
This bill will enable Hawaii to obtain a liberal Federal en-
dowment for its public school system without putting theTerritory in the position of calling for special legislation,
Our people should make up their minds to provide liberal-
ly from local revenues for the public schools and thus dem-
onstrate to Congress our exceptional right to recognitionthrough the passage of this law that will supply a great needof the youth and at the same time be a fitting memorial tpone of the greatest progressive leaders of our common coun-
try.Every citizen should be alert to render whatever assist-
ance the Delegate and those with whom he will work in Con-
gress may suggest, to forward the Dolliver-Davi- s law hatmeans so much to the future of the boys' and girls of Hawaii.

ties waiving jury tho defendant presented tho defenses ofduress, failure of consideration and tho statute of limitations, claiming that his agreement with the superintendent of ptthlicworks of Juno It, 1U01, "to pay such rates annually for theitso of tho sewer as may bo fixed," was not voluntarily made, but was forced upon him by tho necessity of obtaining per-mission to connect his promises with the public sewer in orderto avoid the penalty imposed by regulation, of the hoard ofhealth if. he should not discontinue uso of privy vaults quel
cesspools and transform the snino into approved watoreloetsconnected with tho sewer system. Tho defendant contendsthat rates fixed hy the superintendent prior to the act of April,l!)0t (Sec. 10IS0 II. L) were without legislative sanction andthat tho-- e fixed under the act wero illegal on the grounds thatthe act wis n delegation of legislative power, that the rateswere in the nature of a special tax or assessment mado with-
out opportunity for him to be heard concerning them, andalso because interest on sewer bond.s and expense of mainten-ance, and repair of the hewer, on the basis of which taxes werefixed under I lie act, were provided for by general Appropri-ations to which. the defendant's general taxes had contributed.
It appeared by tho defendant's, evidence that in dune, l!Hil,he had built and plumbed a lodging 1ioum on IMiiiinakcii streetin Honolulu anil wished to make a cesspool for tho premises, but upon being told by an inspector of the board of healthunit ii jie (mi mis in would uo piosccuieii lor,, mjisiic; aim jjjfthat he must connect witliMhe exulio'siguOdyhe itpWrcatio'iiy! There is no evidence that the defendant made the agree-ment for payment of sewer rates from fear of k-in- held liablefor the penalty under the regulation of the board of health, forhis application for permission. to connect his princes with tliusewer was made upon bis being told hy the health ollicer thatotherwise he would be prosecuted for uiiis, me. It was truethat cesspool drainage in that locality might uw 1h;ui a, nuis-

The coieddcrntioii of the agreement was the permission tocomicct with tlio. sewer. AppreciationTO THE PUBLIC We wish at this time to express our appreciation to
the Island public for the confidence reposed in us, as manifested by tholarge number of purchases of the motor cars wc deal in. Altogether in thepast we have handled some ten different makes of cars; we now. hapdloonly three.
There is a nason for this.
To handle apy new makn that was produced seemed to us too much lifco"trying it on the dog" with the public as the Dog.
,0ur policy Was to'study the situation carefully, gauge local conditionsand then consult the best automobile authorities in America with, the
result that we represent today ' "')

, These three great makes represent a combination of best practice .in'automobile (Construction, with the widest choice of body types and firjees. The manufacturers of these three great makes are the leaders in the" in-
dustry. '.',By handling, only these three great makes we can do justice both to tho
public and the manufacturers. "
There are from five to eight thousand different parts in an automobilemultiply this by ten, and the number is enormous. Few dealers if any
'could keep even the necessary parts of ten makes to provide against lnev;itable accident, but with three it is different.

Wo wish phr name to bo synonymous with the
