The Pure in Heart!Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

The Sermon on the Mount!Mt. 5-7

▪Three consecutive chapter of the preaching/teaching of Jesus!▸111 verses! (5 = 48, 6 = 34, and 7 = 29)▸All except the first two and the last two are

spoken by Jesus! = 107! ▪It begins with “The Beatitudes!”

Mt. 5:3-12 “Blessed are...” ▸There are 8 or 9 depending on how you count

them. The last two are often counted as one.

The Heart of “The Beatitudes!”Mt 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For

they shall see God.▪The heart of the matter is, the matter of the

heart!▪The first and greatest commandment!▸Mk. 12:29-30 Jesus answered him, "The

first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment.

It’s what’s inside that counts!▪Looks can be deceiving!▸Wolves in sheep clothing! (Mt. 7:15-20)▸Whitewashed tombs full of dead men’s

bones! (Mt. 23:1-39)▸Angels of darkness dressed as angels of

light! (2 Cor. 11:13-15)

I. Right Heart!▪Sin always begins “in the heart!”▸Mt 5:27-28 "You have heard that it was said

to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

▪When we allow wrong thoughts to fill out hearts, they later come out in our actions!▸Mt 7:20 “Therefore by their fruits you will

know them.”

On the throne of our hearts, self or the Savior?

▪This has always been the question that needs answered most!▸Gen. 3:1-6 cf. 1 Jn. 2:15-17

–Lust of the flesh! “good for food!”–Lust of the eyes! “pleasant to the eyes!”–Pride of life! “desirable to make one wise!”▪God will never share the throne, we

must choose!

What we treasure fills our hearts!Mt 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there

your heart will be also.”▪If we treasure God, then God will fill our

hearts! If sin, then sin will fill our hearts!▪We speak from what is in our hearts!▸Mt 12:34 “Brood of vipers! How can you,

being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

▪It is in the heart that faith begins!▸Act. 8:37 cf. Rom. 10:10-21

II. Right Head!▪Many have the right heart, but the

wrong information!▸Rom. 10:1-3 Brethren, my heart's desire

and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

Not one without the other, but rather both of them together!

Jn. 4:23-24 "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in

spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. "God is Spirit, and those who worship

Him must worship in spirit and truth."▪This is why we need to take time to

study!▸2 Tim. 2:15▪This is why we need to check the facts!▸Act. 17:10-11▪It is important for us to “do our

homework!”

The Mind of Christ!Php 2:5 “Let this mind be in you which was

also in Christ Jesus.” (cf. 1 Cor. 2:16)

▪We need to always be learning to think like Jesus!▪This requires, the mind of a man and

the heart of a child!▸1 Cor. 14:20 My brothers, do not be

children in mind: in evil be as little children, but in mind be of full growth.

III. Right Home!2 Cor 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a

building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

▪“They shall see God!” (Mt. 5:8)▸This is a Hebraism = to experience and

enjoy▸See Jn. 3:1-5▪If we have the wrong heart or the wrong

head, we will miss out on Heaven!

How many of you desire a home in Heaven?

▪I would imagine that is why you are here today! A-men!!! We desire to go “home” some day to Heaven!▪I know that is why I am here!▪For us to get there these two things

are needed!▸Right heart + right head = right home!

The best is yet to come for the Christian!

▪Jn. 14:1-3 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

Conclusion:▪As we are concerned with what fills

are children’s hearts & minds, so is God!

▪If you are here & not yet a Christian, then come to Jesus & let Him purify your heart & prepare you for a home in Heaven!

▪If you are a Christian, then make sure to remain on guard against sin & Satan!
