ENCEBOLLADO

I have always enjoyed eating the traditional food of Ecuador named encebollado. The food is so tasty, so soft like the clouds, that one Saturday I was in the Gonzaga Church and after the mass, everyone gathered there to view my cooking. Two JIS students, Valentina and her sister Michelle Friedl, wanted to learn how to do encebollado. I explained and showed every step as the audience looked on with excitement. The final ingredient was olive oil, which everyone saw it as the final piece of the puzzle to complete the dish. I was cheered and I felt that I have become a chef.

I was not surprised that everyone liked it and their expressions looked like if they had found gold in their mouth and treasure in their hearts. They said that it was one of the best

foods. Spectators were from Mexico, Costa Rica, Italy, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and Indonesia. They all loved at first bite, meaning that my food brought a mysterious jungle to their mouth. No matter from which country they come, they will never want to forget the taste of encebollado.

One from Italy claimed that this food resembled to Mediterranean food, due to the rainbow of the encebollado. It is considered a delicacy in Ecuador.

Ingredients

Encebollado

4 tomatoes

4 lemons

12 small purple onions

A bunch of coriander

A spoon of olive oil

The salt is made at your taste

Everyone is eating encebollado with pleasure

1. Onions must be cut into small thin slices. Make sure you cut all the onions until they are thin like a paper. Then place them over a bowl or a round dish.

2. Grab at least 4 lemons and slice it in half. Then squeeze the lemon and the juice should go to the onion. The lemon will kill the skunk smell from the onion.

3. Leave the onion for 15 minutes until the onion becomes soft.

4. The red, bright tomatoes should be cut into tiny cubic pieces like a puzzle. First chop the

tomatoes into slices, and then keep cutting them smaller.

5. Slice the cilantro.

6. Place the cilantro in the bowl so that it can give a peaceful and harmonious aroma.

7. Mix them together; while mixing it, you will hear sounds of joyful in your soul.

8. Put salt at your own taste. 9. Then mix the ingredients again10. For the grand finale, put a spoonful of olive

oil into the bowl and as you pour it in, you

will hear cheers of success.

STEPS TO MAKE ENCEBOLLADO

Voilá you have encebollado and multi-cultural people will enjoy the delicacy of this dish, everyone will be please to taste this appetizing Ecuadorian food.

In the first half time, Honduras scored a goal in the 8th minute after Honduran player Jerry Bengtson shot the ball the ball straight, before the goalkeeper could block it.

The celebration was short lived as Ecuadorian player Pablo Palacios scored a goal in the 13th minute after Benitez passed the ball to the latter, thus providing the goalkeeper a distraction for Palacios to score the goal. After the 90 minute came, it was decided to make a penalty between both former countries which have qualified the world cup twice.

As the penalties came, all the fans from both sides look with excitement and hopes. In the first penalty and second penalty, both sides managed to score a goal.

However on the third penalty, Honduras failed to score a goal after kicking the ball to the left side in which the

goalkeeper went to the right. Ecuador took the advantage and scored the third goal.

In this situation the Honduran fans look with fear, terrified, and saw that hopes could be loss. As Honduras scored their third goal, a miracle arrived as Ecuadorian player Michael Jackson failed a penalty after kicking the ball to the far left side in which the ball wasn’t even close in going to the net.

Honduras took the advantage and scored their fifth goal. As Honduras celebrated, it was up to an Ecuadorian player to score a goal if he wanted Ecuador to avoid a defeat. As the Ecuadorian player runs to kick the ball, the fans of Ecuador could barely watch, the Honduras fans watched for a glory coming, and...GOAL, Ecuador managed to score their fourth goal, thus ending the penalty to a draw.

Due to the draw, both teams had to face another penalty to determine the winner. In this event, Honduras player Hendry Thomas kick the ball to the right side, while the goalkeeper moved to the left side, in which it could have been a goal, however, the post of the net prevented the goal.

As Honduras looked with a shock, Ecuador took the advantage and scored the goal, thus claiming a victory for Ecuador.

Ecuador are preparing for the 2011 Copa América which starts on July 1 and they are hoping to reach in a good position after years of being eliminated only in the first round.

" On Saturday when I had the idea on doing an encebollado, I first thought of how I was going to do it in front of the community church. A conflict that I had was that I did not organize this event, and I did not have the phone number of the mothers from the church, so if I couldn’t tell them, then they wouldn’t be able to announce the people who attend the church mass about my show. So I thought that I had to carefully plan a timeline in order for things to go right.

" I first started to gather all the ingredients that required my lovely and delicacy dish. I sliced the three main ingredients and I packed them in a plastic container so that I could show the audience the steps for my dish, without taking a lot of time that would bore them to death. I then grabbed the ingredients that would give the dish a romantic and lively smell which were lemon and

the famous healthy sunny angel, olive oil.

" Once I had everything ready I left the house with my family at 4:00 pm. because the church would start at 5:00 pm. and I would have to be there before the big tall arrow marched to the number five. The Chinese New Year actually gave me luck, because during my expedition to the church, there was no traffic and there was no rain. It felt like a dream, but I was in the reality, this made my day.

" I arrived and run liked a lightning to the church and once I saw the mothers, I talked to them and thus they were able to arrange my show for my long live friend, encebollado.

" During my show, everybody paid close attention, and every step made them more anxious of what was going to happen next. Each ingredient made them hungry, each

time I mix the ingredients, their tongues came out, and as I was about to show the last touch for their dish, their mouths were already full with a fountain of saliva. As I showed the famous, but tiny olive oil, everyone realized what this meant: The last piece to complete the puzzle.

" As I prepared the dish, everyone began to form a line in order to have a mouthful for this new type of alien dish which would be introduced to their stomach. When I finished the show, everyone applauded me, and I felt like a champion, like a leader...like a great chef of the world. When everyone tasted my dish, everyone loved it. My dish brought them joy and happiness and as we drove home, I felt proud of my success.

A great moment in life to remember

uring this project I had a great time, because this project is not about just writing any event but it is about an event in which you have experienced, you have seen it with your own eyes and you have felt it. The three events that I experienced it were wonderful. In making the scrapbook, I am almost done and the only thing I have to do is to put the pictures that I took from the events, but making this scrapbook has actually been a fun thing for me because it is more like a memory that can be held in a book for eternity. Making an event to happen needed planning, because when I had to do the yummy page, I had to tell the sisters from the church to set up the show about encebollado after the mass. After the mass it was a surprise for me that the people who attended the church decided to attend my show and they all stayed there until they tasted my wonderful dish. For the comedy page, I was able to go to the movies with Jai to watch a film called, “The green Hornet,” which was a comedy movie. Finally for the

sports page, I was able to see a soccer match of my home country defeating Honduras. Those were wonderful moments that I will never forget. All the writing in the three reports is based on my true feelings, the way I genuinely felt at that time. I believe that in this project I will

get a good grade and the grade I get will be based on my effort, enjoyment, and willingness that I have applied to this work. As like they say, “life is like a book, make it a good one.”
