Project Information
• Testing eco-engineering designs to promote biodiversity onartificial marine structures.
• Promoting the incorporation of ecological and societal benefitsin coastal structures.
• Stakeholder focused tools and resources to inform ecologically-sensitive design of artificial coastal structures.
Identifying the factors that shape thebiodiversity and ecosystem servicessupported by artificial structures in theIrish Sea, to inform our ability to predictthe effect of new structures in the coastalenvironment.
Developing a catalogue of eco-engineeringsolutions to promote biodiversity onartificial marine and coastal structures, involving the collation of evidence fromaround the world and introducing newevidence from novel design trials in theIrish Sea.
Investigating the distribution patterns andgenetic structure of non-native species inrelation to artificial structures, to informour understanding of mechanisms by whichthese structures facilitate the introductionand spread of non-native species.
Assessing local community perceptions andneeds in relation to coastal defencestructures, to emphasise positive effects ofnew and existing developments.
Exploring the potential global market foreco-engineering enterprises, with the aimof establishing Welsh and Irish enterprisesas world leaders in this field.
