The Company Introducing Lenze Small Drives
We are a successful manufacturer of drive
systems that has been producing small
drives in the 12 to 600 W power range
for the following technologies since 1985:
˘ DC small drives
˘ AC small drives
The product range comprises direct
current permanent magnet motors and
three-phase asynchronous motors, which
can be combined with worm, helical or
planetary gearboxes to form geared
motors. Modular motor structure and the
wide range of variants make it easy to
find the most suitable design for any
specific application.

Bevel and helical gearboxes
˘ CompactThe modular concept and the high power density achie-ved using ground gears with optimised teeth profilesmake extremely compact designs possible.
˘ Adaptable and compatibleNumerous input and output designs mean that Lenzegearboxes can be adapted to almost any drive task.Shaft-mounted helical and right-angle gearboxes arecompatible at the output within any given gearbox size.
˘ Easy to integrateThe high functionality of the housing allows easy inte-gration of Lenze gearboxes into their surroundings.
˘ QuietOptimised geometry of the gear teeth reduces genera-ted noise and internally ribbed cast iron housings provi-de additional noise damping.
˘ Finely stepped output speedLarge ratio ranges combined with thesmall ratio step = 1.12 allow a precise selection of therequired output speed.
˘ Reduced clearanceThe two-stage basic concept (three-stage helical-bevelgearbox), low backlash connections and the high quality of the toothing provided by precision manu-facturing give a high torsional stiffness at the outputcompared to other gearboxes.

Operating modes
The ratings are obtained when the following conditions arefulfilled:˘ Ambient temperature up to 40 °C˘ Installation at a height up to 1000 m a.m.s.l.˘ Unobstructed airflow˘ No recycling of the warm exhaust air via the intake
The operating mode is important when choosing a motor. A motor heats up much less, for example, when loaded onlyintermittently than when constantly under load, thus allo-wing the selection of a smaller motor. In accordance withVDE 0530, there are eight different modes of operation; S1 to S8.
For Continuous operation S1 the operating time at therated power is so long that the steady-state temperature ofthe machine is reached. Such motors are suitable for conti-nuous duty, i.e. they can be permanently loaded with therated load.
For Short-time operation S2 the operating time is so shortin comparison to the resting time which follows it that the
steady-state temperature of the machine is never achieved. In the resting time following the operating time the motorcools down to the initial temperature.
With Intermittent operation S3, S4, S5 the operation con-sists of a repeating set of short-term duties. The runningtime is normally 10 minutes. The resting periods betweenthe operating periods are sufficiently long for the machineto cool down.S3 operation occurs, when the heating effect of the startingcurrent is negligible, S4 when the effect of the starting cur-rent cannot be disregarded, S5 when the braking currentcauses additional heating of the machine.
With continuous duty with intermittent loading S6 themotor can cool down in the idle phases.
With continuous operation with start-up andbraking S7 there are practically no pauses. The machine is permanently under voltage.
Varying ambient conditionsVariations in the ambient conditions require a power reduc-tion according to the factors given in Tables 2 and 3. The permissible continuous power is given by:
Pred = P · PNPN

If you are operating under extreme conditions, pleasecontact your nearest Lenze representative.
Load capacity c of gearboxesParameter for the load capacity of Lenze gearboxes andgeared motors. ˘ c is the ratio of the permissible rated torque of the gear-
box to the rated torque supplied by the drive component(e.g. the built-in Lenze motor).
˘ The value of c must always be greater than the value ofthe application factor k calculated for the application.
Operating factor k (corresponding to DIN 3990)Takes into account the influence of temporally variableloads which are actually present during the anticipatedruntime of gearboxes and geared motors. k is determined by˘ the type of load ˘ the load intensity˘ temporal factors

The motors are dimensioned for a rated frequency of 50 Hz.The rated frequency of 60 Hz is permissible. If the samerated voltage is maintained with 60 Hz operation the utili-sation of the motor and thus the motor temperature redu-ce. If the rated voltage is increased by the factor 1.2 (ratio60 Hz/50 Hz) in 60 Hz operation, the motor utilisationremains constant and the temperatures are the same as in50 Hz operation.

Temperature encoder KTY 83-110 (integrated temperature detector)
The motor temperature is monitored continuously usingthe KTY temperature detector, although this does not offerfull protection.
The feedback to the servo inverter 9300 is carried out usingthe feedback system cable. When the encoder is fed with ameasuring current of 1 mA, the relationship between tem-perature and resistance will be as follows:
Temperature sensor KTY83-110
Resi
stan
ce in
Ω
Temperature in °C
Thermostat – NC contact (TKÖ)
As an alternative to the continuous sensor KTY, a tempera-ture contact can also be used to monitor the windings ofmotor series SDSGA.
