VOLUME XXXIV, NUMBER 1 SPRING 2018

KEVIN DANIEL, CHE, CHFM

The President’s Corner

We have started out the year already with

a look at what kind of weather events

may be in store for us with the small

sub-tropical storm that, under different

circumstances, could have developed into

something much more threatening. It just

reminds us that we must always stay

prepared.

This year’s 34th State Spring Meeting was a huge success. It

was hosted by District I at the World Golf Village Renaissance

Hotel in beautiful St. Augustine. There were 192 people who

attended and we had a record 42 vendor tabletop exhibits.

On Thursday, at this event, we had 41 people attend the CHFM

prep class and 18 sat on Friday afternoon for the test. For

those not in the CHFM review class on Thursday, there were

84 members and vendors who played in the annual golf

tournament on the beautiful Slammer & Squire course

(fortunately, the rain held off for the golf tournament).

Thank you to the companies who sponsored the tournament.

We had a great group of speakers for the conference. For

those of you that missed it, the handouts for each speaker

session are on the website for you to download. So you can

prepare for next year’s Spring Meeting, hosted by District IV,

mark your calendars for May 15 – 17, 2019 when FHEA will

meet at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale.

Great news! FHEA received official notice of our Chapter’s

Platinum Award status from ASHE for the work done in

2017. We will be presented the award on July 18 at the

upcoming ASHE national conference in Seattle. Kudos to our

State VP Thomas Gibson! I know how much work it takes to

prepare the vast amount of paperwork that is required.

Thanks to everyone else for their commitment and effort to

make this one of the best associations in AHA/ ASHE. FHEA is

currently on track to qualify for the "Platinum Elite" award

next year as long as everything else works out since we

finally hit the participation level to get the E2C (Energy to

Care) challenge going.

The combined 34th Annual AHCA Seminar and FHEA’s 56th Annual Meeting & Trade Show is scheduled for October 7 – 10, 2018 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. The AHCA seminar is titled "Back to the Basics of Health Care Design and Construction." The FHEA Golf Tournament will be on Sunday morning, October 7th at the Shingle Creek Club; the ACHA Seminar will be October 7 – 9, with the FHEA Trade Show

(currently sold out with 298 vendors) running concurrently on October 8 – 9, and the FHEA Annual Meeting, “Beyond the Basics,” on Wednesday, October 10.

For more information, visit http://ahcaseminar.com and make plans now to attend both the AHCA Seminar and the FHEA Annual Meeting in Orlando.

JUNE IS NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH

Every year the National Safety Council (NSC) dedicates the month of June to safety at home, on the road,

and, of course, in the workplace.

WHISTLE SUMMER 2018

Stand up

to falls

Falls are one of the most common causes of workplace

injuries. Falls are common in “safer” industries - all it takes

is a little water on the floor for an average day to turn bad.

Recharge

to be

in charge

Sleep deprivation is another risk-especially when

employees drive or operate machinery. This year, the NSC

is offering some great ideas for getting enough rest and

preventing fatigue-related accidents.

Prepare

for active

shooters

While we hope it never happens, be sure you are doing

what you can to prevent violence in the workplace - and

know how to react if one does occur.

Don’t just

sit there

Easy to overlook but important. Repetitive motion and

lifting injuries are common but can be easy to prevent

through employee education.

For more information on these topics, visit the NSC website at www.nsc.org. If you have other safety

concerns in your workplace, June is a great time to address it.

FHEA WEBSITE NEWS

The FHEA website, www.fhea.org, will be

adding a new feature “Member of the Month”.

It will be posted on the Hall of Excellence

page. Each District is asked to nominate active

healthcare engineer members who will be

highlighted on the website.

To submit a member for consideration,

complete the Member of the Month form, and

send it, along with a head and shoulder photo,

to [email protected].
