HELLO EVERYONE,Our 2015 Ski season is taking shape. We

are making progress with our joint bus trip to Mammoth with Convair/Don Diego Ski Club in January and have narrowed down the choice of an area for our joint fly away trip with the North Island Snowdrifters. These things will be resolved in about a month. More details

in the ski article. I had the pleasure of closing out the ski season at Mammoth with eight inches of fresh powder.

Convair/Don Diego has invited us to join them on their weekly walks. Detail information can be passed on by way of email.

Plan on helping out at our summer outdoor meetings/pot lucks at Mission Bay with such things as cooking and clean up.

We have some great events lined up for the summer, consider - ethnic dinning, happy hours, concerts, ball games, walks, tours and bike rides. Join in the fun and volunteer to help out.

2015 Ski SeasonJanuary 11-16, 2015 Mammoth – Joint trip with Convair/

Don Diego Ski Club. We will stay at 1849 Condominiums and they will stay at the Best Western across from Footloose. We will have happy hour and are planning a joint dinner with them. The current cost estimate is $525.00.

February-March 2015 – The fly away trip with North Island Snowdrifters is being planned. We are evaluating three areas for the week of February 25 through March 4 – Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain.

Join us June 26, Thursday, at the StoneRidge Country Club, Poway for dancing with the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra playing from 7:00 - 9:30 PM. Let’s visit some of the small, little known Museums in San Diego. We have already visited a few. It is now time to go to the San Diego Police Department’s small museum on College Avenue which opened in 2009. (Located in an old city library just north of El Cajon Blvd.) Several members began collecting memorability and now have thousands of artifacts and photos on display. It features a police uniform display from the 1800s to present day, a communication center, laboratory displays, a jail cell from the former SDPD headquarters

on Market Street, weapons, police motorcycles, police sports memorabilia. There are features on heroes, history, mysteries. You will see a display of badges dating 100 years, mounted police horse and display of proper dress for detectives in the past and much more. Parking lot is next to the building.

the construction of the Spanish Galleon was beginning. See the progress made on the construction of the beautiful ship that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into our bay and claimed the land for Spain in September 1542. The Maritime Museum is building this full-sized, fully functional and historically accurate replica of Cabrillo’s flagship. (TG 1288 E1-Turn on Spanish Landing Way off North Harbor Drive). Possible launching the end of October. Spain’s

ambassador to the US, Ramón Gill-Casares was here to present Doug Sharp (Naval architect/manager of the project) with the Order of Isabella the Catholic.

This museum features two dozen antique cars/one or two cylinders. They are arranged in chronological order starting with the 1886 Benz. You will also see nickelodeons, phonographs, clocks, cameras from 1900 to 1940, California license plates from 1914 to 1991, vintage model trains, and much more. This was Frank the Trainman store at one time and now represents the private collection of Jim Cooley who has been collecting for over 50 years.

FREE tour of The National Weather Service (NWS), once known as the Weather Bureau… it is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States government. The NWS is tasked with providing forecasts, public warnings, and other products to organizations and the public for the purposes of protection, safety, and general information. This is done through a collection of national and regional centers, and 122 local weather forecast offices. As the NWS is a government agency, most of its products are in the public domain and available free of charge.

The National Weather Service uses local branches, known as Weather Forecast Offices, to issue products specific to those areas. Some of the products that are only issued by the WFOs are severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, flood, flash flood, and winter weather watches and warnings, some aviation products, and local forecast grids. Directions will be sent when I receive your RSVP.

GENERAL INFORMATIONOrganization: Torrey Pines Ski Club is a non-profit California Corporation . Membership: Annual dues of $35 are payable in full with the application for membership . Applications are available at any time at the General Meetings of the Club . Any donations made to Torrey Pines Ski Club for raffle tickets or other fund-raising events are not tax deductible .

TRIP RULES 1 . RESERVATIONS . A check for the full amount required, received by the trip captain, is

a request for a reservation . The trip captain will make the initial count five days after the flyer postmark . Directors of the board and Officers will be given priority if they inform the trip captain before the initial count . If there are more checks than seats available, checks will be drawn at random until the trip is filled . The trip captain will strive to reach a 50-50 male-to-female ratio . Couples should send their checks in together and they will be drawn as a pair . All participants must sign a release before departure .

2 . CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS . In the event of your cancellation, a refund will be made only if the seat vacancy is filled or if monies are recovered by the club . There also will be a non-refundable cancellation fee for all cancellations whether or not your spot is filled as follows: $10 for trips up to $100; $20 for trips $100 - $300; $30 for trips above $300 . There will be an additional $20 charge for any returned checks . All departure times, locations, lodging, and other travel arrangements are subject to change without notice .

3 . WAITING LIST . On ski trips, those on the waiting list due to the lottery will be accorded priority seating on the trip announced in the following flyer if they inform the trip captain before reservations are confirmed, i .e ., the fifth day after the mailing of that flyer .

4 . CHECKS . Checks will be destroyed from those not going on that trip due to being on the waiting list .

5 . CONFIRMATIONS . You MUST call and confirm your status with the trip captain UNLESS a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) is requested in the trip write up . You MUST include your work and home telephone numbers with your check .

6 . GUESTS . Guests who are sponsored by a member are allowed on trips . TPSC members have 5 days priority after the newsletter announcement to sign up for a trip . After 5 days, members may sign up one guest by including an additional amount on their check as follows (unless otherwise noted): for trips under $50, there will be either member priority or a guest fee; $10 for trips costing $50-$100; $35 (cost of membership dues) for trips costing over $100 . Guests, like members of TPSC, must be at least 21 years of age and agree to the club “General Release and Waiver .”

7 . EVENT GUESTS: Members and guests not on the event/trip and who join a happy hour and/or dinner will be charged $8 .00 per person per occurrence for the happy hour; $20 .00 per person per occurrence for the dinner or combo happy hour/dinner .
