Community Foundationof Collier County

For the past 27 years, the Community Foundation of Collier County has been in a unique position to serve as the primary philanthropic resource for donors and nonprofits in our community. In 2012, the Foundation’s board launched a new strategic plan which will sharply focus its efforts over the next several years on strategic grantmaking and providing leadership to help solve problems in identified areas of community needs.

As we launch our new plan, I am very pleased to announce that the Board successfully concluded its search for a new President and CEO. Eileen Connolly-Keesler, who has enjoyed a most successful twelve years as CEO of the Oshkosh, Wisconsin Community Foundation, will be joining us on January 1, 2013. As head of her Foundation, she grew the endowment from $20 million to almost $80 million, established numerous funds focused on the interests of the community and became the leading, public-spirited citizen of her area.

I want to thank Mary George, who has operated as Acting CEO since May of 2012, and the Foundation’s capable staff for helping to keep progress moving forward. Without their leadership and support, we could not have accomplished the results we have enjoyed.

Finally, I want to thank you for your continued support of our wonderful organization. The current Board of Community Foundation of Collier County recognizes the debt of gratitude owed to the many previous Trustees and other principal supporters who have made the Foundation such a major contributor to the strength of our community. It is our commitment to sustain that leadership.

First book-Collier County In 2005, a group of individuals passionate about early childhood literacy founded First Book-Collier County. Their mission was to provide new books to children in need, addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books. In the beginning, they had just enough funds to give 4,000 books to pre-K children across Collier County. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, experts in education, sound management and the contributions of generous donors the fund has grown to where they can distribute 50,000 books a year. First Book-Collier County supporters are proud to acknowledge there are over 310,000 books in the homes of children from low-income families in Collier County – homes where there used to be no books at all. First Book-Collier County is a designated fund at the Community Foundation.

Funds

Community Foundationof Collier County

The Community Foundation manages over 450 funds. The philanthropic goals of our fundholders are as distinctive as they are creative. No two fundholders have the same story, but they all share the same goal – to make a positive difference in the well-being of our citizens and our communities. We hope you enjoy a sampling of some of these wonderful stories:

bernton Family Fund Dr. Horace and Connie Bernton, (Connie and Bud) were very active in their community of Montgomery County, Maryland, so in 2006, when they decided to spend more time in Collier County, it was a natural next step to learn more about the special needs of their new community. Connie notes, “We’re very happy to participate in the programs of the Foundation as it is a window through which we have become aware of the needs of the Collier County community.” Bud adds, “We are delighted with the focus and outreach of the Community Foundation of Collier County, it makes us greater stakeholders in our wonderful community!” The Berntons use their Donor Advised Fund to give to their favorite nonprofits in Collier County and to favored institutions nationwide.

Judy b. & David m. Jones scholarship Fund David and Judy wanted to create a scholarship to help bridge the gap for the kids who really needed support and were falling through the cracks. Those students from middle-class families, they could be single-parent families, or families hit hard by the economy who are struggling just to pay the bills; for them, it’s just not possible to put one or more kids through college. The Jones’ scholarship is for Barron Collier High School students who have achieved good grades, and whose families need financial support to cover college expenses and have been neglected by other assistance programs. David and Judy have found it so rewarding getting to know the students personally, they see firsthand the impact they have made on their lives. Many of the students write to them throughout their college careers, keeping them up-to-date on their lives. For David and Judy they didn’t want to wait until they were gone to give back, life is precious and they wanted to enjoy the rewards of giving now.

Fresh start Fund for Abused Women Created in 1995, Fresh Start was founded by a group of local women who for many years assisted abused women. The women who apply for Fresh Start Fund grants have already taken the first steps to getting away, and staying away from an abusive situation – these women are trying to make a “fresh start” free from abuse. However, as they prepare to start a new life free from abuse, they are often unable to survive independently because of the lack of financial resources for day-to-day living expenses. Faced with the overwhelming impact of paying rental deposits, utility hook-ups, child care, or acquiring transportation, in many cases the women give up and go back to the abuser. The Fresh Start fund seeks to provide these financial resources. Fresh Start is a designated endowed fund at the Community Foundation.

top Five reasons People Give through the Community Foundation of Collier County

1. We accept a wide variety of charitable assets and offer a maximum tax advantage for most gifts under federal law.

2. One gift to a Donor Advised Fund gives you a tax break now and the freedom to make your charitable decisions later.

3. Our fees are invested back in to the community.

4. Your gift can significantly impact the local community and address highest priority needs.

5. By establishing an endowed fund, the legacy of your named gift is guaranteed to live forever.

Give now – Enjoy the benefits of your Philanthropic Dollars at Work with a Donor Advised Fund

• First, decide what type of fund suits your individual goals. Donor Advised funds are the most flexible and popular product the Foundation offers. The Foundation also administers many diverse scholarship funds.

• Decide how you would like to make a contribution to establish your fund. You may contribute cash, securities or other property valued at $10,000 or more.

• Select a name for the fund, complete and sign a simple agreement form.

• Receive a tax deduction at the time the fund is established and when additional contributions are made.

• You and/or individuals you select are immediately able to recommend grants to be made in Collier County or anywhere in the country.

• You can manage your fund online, view your gift and grant history, and make recommendations for grants at any time.

Fund Now and for the Future

Funds

A bequest is often the simplest way to make a lasting gift to your community. One of the greatest benefits of working together with the Community Foundation and your professional advisor is that once your estate plan is established, the details of your philanthropic goals can be easily changed at anytime and for no cost, by contacting the Foundation.

The late Eleanor B. Sweet, a long-time resident of Naples, wanted to ensure her assets would work forever for the benefit of the community and the causes she loved. Eleanor planned for a designated endowment leaving perpetual gifts to the Humane Society of Collier County; Miami Children’s Hospital; the Salvation Army; Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church; St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and entrusted an unrestricted portion of her estate to the Community Foundation for community needs as they arise.

Designated

Many families and individuals establish a designated fund at the Community Foundation of Collier County because they want to make a long-term difference in a community, cause or organization. The knowledge that their gift will keep-on-giving to organizations or causes that reflect their values is of great personal satisfaction.

In order to create a perpetual source of income for the named charities the vast majority of designated funds are endowed. A significant benefit of this type of fund, for the fundholder and the nonprofit, is that because of the Foundation’s prudent investment policies the charities will receive a reliable, annual source of income in the donor’s name. Another benefit to the fundholder is that the Foundation’s Board provides oversight to ensure that the grants from the fund are used for charitable purposes.

other types of Endowed Funds:

• unrestricted – you can support changing community needs by providing unrestricted support. Donors may create a separate Endowment Fund or donate to the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment that will support current and future needs.

• Field of interest – you can support specific areas of interest such as human services, healthcare, education or another broad area. By naming a program area and not a specific organization, flexibility exists to meet the ever-changing needs of the community.

• scholarship – Scholarship funds provide support for individuals who are pursuing an education, whether they’re high school graduates earning a college degree or nontraditional students who are returning to the work force.

• Community Foundation Field of interest Endowed Funds – Women’s Philanthropic network Fund – The purpose of the WPN Endowed Fund is to provide a permanent pool of funds in Collier County to help young girls at risk, female heads of households in need and senior women and caregivers in times of hardship.

tHE FounDAtion’s rEsourCE GuiDE to ColliEr nonProFits

At the core of the Foundation’s leadership strategy is the transition to being a truly knowledge-based organization by collecting data on charitable giving, nonprofit organizations, nonprofit leadership and community needs. This quest for definitive information started in 2008, when the Foundation launched the Resource Guide to Collier Nonprofits, which today profiles over 200 organizations on our website, www.cfcollier.org.

The following pages provide a summary of current data from the Resource Guide. It includes information from 202 nonprofits serving Collier County that have registered with the Community Foundation in the past year. We encourage donors, volunteers, community leaders and corporations to visit the Guide on our website to gather detailed information on individual nonprofits, and compare and analyze organizations with each other in order to make personal and corporate funding decisions.

According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS), public charities (501c3s) accounted for 70 percent of all registered nonprofits in 2009 and grew 47 percent. These charities reported $1.40 trillion in revenue, $1.40 trillion in expenses, and $2.53 trillion in assets in 2009. Economically, health nonprofits were the largest, accounting for 60 percent of revenues and 41 percent of assets. Education nonprofits were second and higher education institutions alone accounted for 10 percent of all revenue. Combined, hospitals and higher education accounted for over two-thirds of all nonprofit assets.

The same is true for Collier County. More than $1 billion dollars in revenues were reported last year to the IRS from Collier County nonprofits. Of the revenues reported in the Resource Guide (approx. $179 million) come from public contributions (private donations and corporate gifts). Ten agencies reported a total of $101 million in contributions, more than half of all reported. 157 organizations raised the remaining $78 million. 68 organizations or one-third of all organizations report less than $100 thousand in total revenues. (Note that some 35 agencies reported no private donations). But the Collier County landscape is fledgling in contrast to many northern cities. 33 percent of Collier agencies have no full-time staff and 20% reported all-volunteer (no staff). Of the 202 agencies reporting in the Resource Guide, only 11 organizations reported more than 50+ staff members. Other information on Collier County nonprofits can also be found on the Foundations website at www.cfcollier.org.

Collier 211

Collier 211 was launched in February, 2012, and it has been a year since the Community Foundation of Collier County initiated the campaign to start up Collier 211 Information and Referral, a much needed service for individuals and families in need. In that time, the Foundation secured three years of operating costs, identified 500 community resources, created a website for users at www.Collier211.org, and launched a grassroots awareness campaign to Spread the Word to those in need.

In response to these alarming findings, the Community Foundation started the Families in Need Fund – supported by the Alfred and Vera Goodman field-of-interest fund. The Goodman endowment fund was part of an estate plan, set up by the donor to support human services in areas of most immediate and critical need. The Foundation recently awarded a grant from the Families in Need Fund to Catholic Charities to expand their services to families in Collier County. Nonprofit providers tell us that a small stipend can make a huge difference to a family on the brink of homelessness.

Through the Foundation’s leadership, the grant was matched by the Women’s Philanthropic Network Fund and leverages federal HUD dollars. The result is that grants from the endowment doubled the assistance available, especially for those “falling through the cracks.” Next steps include increasing financial partnerships for collaborative efforts by area agencies, data collection, and case management.

ColliEr 211 – ColliEr’s First inFormAtion AnD rEFErrAl systEm

FACTS ABOUT COLLIER 211

Since the February, 2012 launch, 1300 callers have received referrals to nonprofits, government programs and organizations offering free or reduced fee services in Collier County

• 66% of callers are female• 75% of callers are non-Hispanic, 22% are

Hispanic/Latino•Majority of callers were between the ages

of 35 and 59•Majority of calls were from East Naples and

Golden Gate

The plan for the next two years is to continue to raise awareness for Collier 211 and increase the community information available to nonprofits, especially those organizations that regularly use the 211 database to help their clients. Nonprofits and the community also benefit from monthly reports on caller feedback.

The findings and the data being collected have already informed the Foundation about a significant need in the community. The majority of calls are from female heads of households calling in need of financial assistance, especially for rent and utility subsidies. Many times these families are on the verge of being evicted from their homes. The agencies involved are reporting that these requests for assistance have doubled in the past year due to the economy and that many people are not eligible for subsidies.

Collier 211 – business of the month: In March, 2012, the Community Foundation of Collier County’s Collier 211, LLC had the great honor to receive the Business of the Month Award from the Collier County Board of Commissioners. The award is presented to an organization that has enhanced the community through financial, volunteer and active involvement in organizations and programs that assist in creating a better quality of life for all citizens in Collier County.

The Business of the Month is celebrated each month in the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce’s monthly publication of Business Currents.

In February of 2011, the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of Collier County awarded over $150,000 in grant money to start up and operate Collier 211 for 3 years. Using this grant as leverage, the Foundation received more than $450,000 from the following community partners and contributors:

“The United Way of Collier County is proud to support Collier 211 and be part of a collaborative effort of many funding partners which will result in making this most needed service available to everyone in our community.”

—Steve Sanderson, Executive Director United Way of Collier County

“Collier 211 is a terrific resource for our community. It puts our residents in touch with the services they need and helps keep 911 lines open for emergency calls.”

—Sheriff Rambosk

The data from 211 provided the needed information for the Foundation to approach the Agua Fund to co-invest in and support senior women in need in Immokalee. Anecdotal information is important to start to address this issue, but data is needed to identify specific needs. The Community Foundation, with the financial support of the Agua Fund, a private foundation with a donor advised fund, brought agencies in Immokalee together to survey seniors and pinpoint needed services.

The result of a survey, completed by 14% of senior population in Immokalee between ages 55 and 85, shows that 42% of seniors live alone, 63% had income of less than $10,000 and 64% were renters. In particular, 150 seniors were in critical need of rental and utility assistance and transportation, especially to doctor appointments and grocery shopping.

One of the biggest issues facing senior women is the lack of affordable housing in Collier County. In Collier County, 50% of senior women renters spend over 35% of their income on housing as opposed to 23% of senior women homeowners.

In Collier County senior women have the lowest median income at $23,031. With such low incomes, it is not surprising that the majority of single households living below the poverty level are senior women. Many senior women in Collier County are in reasonable jeopardy of out-living their money.

Armed with this information and data from Collier 211, the Community Foundation is now helping to coordinate services through a collaborative effort between five agencies offering rent and utility vouchers and coordinated transportation. The work is just a start to addressing the issues, and efforts to join with other grantmakers have already begun. Next steps include creating greater access to primary dental care, and coordinating home repairs and donated equipment.

Community Community

The Foundation’s focus on Immokalee started in 1999, with the forming of the Empowerment Alliance, a partnership with Collier County government and the USDA to address the critical needs of Immokalee families that live below the poverty level. While Immokalee has 10% of the County’s population, it has 41% of the population that live below the poverty level in Collier County.

The Community Foundation, in response to the urgent need of this rural community formed three collaborations around emergency needs, housing and early child education. The Foundation then identified new partners from private and corporate foundations to help leverage financial and human assets.

Together, the Foundation with the help of its partners, and grants of more than $850,000, have raised to a new level of awareness, both locally and nationally the issues that plague Immokalee.

immoKAlEE nonProFit nEtWorK

Population in 2010: 24,154 Population change since 2000: +22.2%

Males: 13,352 (55.3%) Females: 10,802 (44.7%)

Immokalee’s high percentage of male to female residents is a result of the migrant labor pool of men working the fields in the agriculture industry.

Age Median resident age: 26.6 years Florida median age: 41.3 years

There are approximately 9,000 children who live in Immokalee, 6,000 of them are school age. Approximately 2,500 children are under 5 years old. Over 40% of children are born to single mothers. 88% of the school body qualifies for free and reduced fee lunch.

Estimated median household income in 2009: $23,616 (it was $24,315 in 2000) Immokalee: $23,616 Florida: $44,736 Estimated per capita income in 2009: $8,738

To date, economic development in Immokalee has not kept pace with surrounding communities. Nearly half of Immokalee families still live below the poverty line, earning a median wage of approximately $20,000. Persistent poverty is the result of low educational attainment; 76% of all the adults in Immokalee have less than a high school education, and more than half of adults 25 years old or older failed to complete 9th grade.

Estimated median house or condo value in 2009: $107,410 (it was $56,000 in 2000) Immokalee: $107,410 Florida: $182,400 Median gross rent in 2009: $664

Housing in Immokalee has not kept pace with population growth and over-crowding is a huge problem. There are approximately 5,700 units in Immokalee, which equates to approximately 7.5 persons per household. Furthermore, almost 50% of the homes in Immokalee have less than 3 rooms, while in the rest of Collier County that figure is 13%.

Outcomes range from serving 150 home-bound seniors, mostly women, all the way to matching state scholarships for early childhood education. Co-investments from the Partners also supported emergency rental and utility assistance for more than 100 residents and housing re-hab in two communities.

Mission: To increase the endowment funds available to help women and girls in Collier County, and to build in all women a sense of empowerment through philanthropy.

informed Grantmaking: Since 2008, the Women’s Philanthropic Network (WPN) has granted a total of $146,510 to the following local nonprofit organizations:

senior resources were funded through Collier Senior Resources and the Leadership Coalition on Aging.

At-risk Girls were funded through the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County.

Caregiver support was funded through Alzheimer’s Network, Parkinson’s Association, Jewish Family & Community Services and Care Club.

51 Honoree Grants of $500 each were given in the names of the 51 Women of Initiative for the past five years to their local charity of choice.

leadership and Education: Members of the Women’s Philanthropic Network (WPN) may choose to participate in leadership and educational opportunities.

Empowered to Lead is a new leadership series created in response to feedback from members wanting to enrich their personal, professional and philanthropic lives. Empowered to Lead was launched in 2012 and the initial series was a sell-out.

the following are the topics for 2013:

• “Tallahassee – What Women Need to Know” A discussion with State Representative, Kathleen Passidomo

• “Understanding the Hidden Rules of Poverty” A presentation by Mary Ellen Barrett, Director of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence.

• “It’s Your Money Honey!” A panel of WPN members from different professional fields will answer questions and facilitate a discussion on important legal and financial information women need to know.

Junior Women of initiative: Many WPN members enjoy the chance to volunteer with other members. This program is an opportunity to help build life skills, share experiences and mentor a wonderful group of at-risk girls.

Launched in 2005, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County, this program has expanded and matured and is now entering its ninth successful year. This year sees the greatest number of participants with seventeen girls from 6th & 7th grades, and thirty mentors.

Families in need will be the focus of the WPN grants for 2013. These grants are in response to the recent alarming statistics gathered from Collier 211, the information and referral service launched by the Community Foundation in 2012. Due to the economic crisis, the greatest number of calls for help are from female heads of households on the verge of being evicted from their homes. These grants will help support a collaboration of private and public agencies tasked with finding the best solutions to this problem, such as assistance with rental subsidies and utility payments.

The Women’s Philanthropic Network (WPN) is the only organization in Collier County dedicated to building an endowment to support the unmet needs of women and girls. The benefits of this endowment are many, but foremost, this endowment guarantees that, even through difficult economic times, there will always be a source of funding available to address the challenges facing women and girls in our community - now and in the future.

Grant monies are raised through a combination of the investment income of the WPN Endowed Fund and special events. In order to sustain a minimum of $50,000 per year in grants, the goal of the WPN is to grow the endowment to $1,250,000 to support the unmet needs of women and girls in good times and in bad.

networking and social: There are many opportunities for WPN members who want to be engaged through networking and social activities. There are two signature events at unique venues throughout the community. The first being the Women of Initiative™ Awards Luncheon: Hosted by the Women’s Philanthropic Network, this annual luncheon honors ten women who through their charitable activities and leadership have helped influence and sustain positive change in the lives of the citizens of our community.

WomEn’s PHilAntHroPiC nEtWorK

The Women of Initiative™ Awards is now entering its fifth year and is building upon the precedent set sixteen years ago by the Women of Style. There is an active alumnae group of 130 honorees that welcome each year’s incoming class with several traditions, including the announcement of the incoming honorees at the December Meeting.

The December Annual member meeting & report is another opportunity for WPN members to network and learn more about the current year’s grantmaking program, the results of previous grants and get the latest information on challenges facing women and girls in Collier County.

An exciting new WPN membership opportunity is the WPn member-Connect. This is an exclusive, member-only e-mail network where you can connect with other members to ask questions or share information and resources unique to Collier County. In addition to resources and referrals, members can share upcoming social opportunities or plan small group events.

The Women’s Philanthropic Network Honor Society is for those WPN members whose cumulative giving total is more than $1,000. We thank you for your generous contributions to the work of the WPN. Your gift is helping secure a brighter future for women and girls in Collier County.

The Trustees Emeriti of the Community Foundation of Collier County host the Annual Celebration of Philanthropy Luncheon where the Community Foundation honors the people and organizations that help make our community a better place to live.

Introduced in 1994, the Robert C. Cosgrove Award specifically acknowledges individuals who represent devotion to human values, families and the well-being of our community.

In 2004, the Community Foundation of Collier County introduced this award in memory of the late Harvey Kapnick. Kapnick believed that the stronger our nonprofits become, the great the impact of every charitable dollar. To that end, this award recognizes a nonprofit that has distinguished itself by exemplifying program excellence.

The Community Foundation would like to recognize all former honorees for their outstanding philanthropy and their personal contributions to our community. Between them, they have touched the lives of all citizens in Collier County.

bond, schoeneck & King, PllCWith 115 years of dedicated client service, Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC has an ingrained tradition of giving back to the communities in which its staff and attorneys reside that includes: pro bono legal efforts; volunteer time by staff and attorneys alike; and monetary donations not only to personal charities, but to larger “general” organizations like the United Way, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Collier County Community Foundation and Harry Chapin Food Bank. In addition, the firm makes “corporate” contributions to major capital projects and special efforts to address significant community needs; to innovative programs that complement economic development efforts; and to other unprecedented events and situations that require extra-ordinary funding. Furthermore, the Firm also considers whether its charitable contributions should, from time to time, focus upon

specific organizations, whose mission, near-term projects and programs will bring about improvements to the quality of life in the community.

In summary, Bond feels a responsibility to be a good “citizen;” to make sustained efforts to contribute across a broad spectrum; to be active and not passive in its giving; to be entirely open minded and welcoming to all requests for support; and ultimately to continually reinforce its tradition to give back to our communities from which we gratefully derive our collective livelihood.

the naples beach hotel & Golf ClubFamily owned and operated, The Naples Beach Hotel traces its community roots to 1946. In these 67 years, three generations of Watkins family – Henry Sr., Henry Jr., Mary, Henry III, Bernadette, Mike and Ellin Goetz – have made local support integral to their business philosophy. Through land donations such as Cambier Park, leadership roles in countless organizations, and initiatives including housing for the poor and scholarships for Naples High students, the “Beach Club” and its founding family have become Naples institutions.

It is the intention of the Hotel to remain involved with the growing Naples area and to sustain our family tradition of support for the education system, for conservation for those in need and for those organizations that influence and help prepare the future leadership of Naples.

Northern Trust is honored to be a Corporate Partner with the Community Foundation of Collier County.

Represented here are just a handful of Northern Trust’s officers who volunteer their time and expertise to Boards and Committees throughout our area, further elevating our community’s wildlife, environment, arts and culture, and most importantly, its people.

In addition to the company’s local corporate contributions, Northern Trust employees have personally given of their time, talent and funds to help support the substantial range of worthy organizations which benefit our southwest Florida community. Due to their generosity, Northern Trust has been able to provide numerous matching gifts to further the impact of every qualified donation, having given nearly $14 million in cash contributions to charitable organizations worldwide in 2011, and more than $72 million during the last five years.

For the fourth year in a row, Northern Trust has been named the “Best Private Bank in the U.S.” by The Financial Times Group, publishers of the Financial Times, The Banker and Professional Wealth Management magazines. Northern Trust has been fortunate to receive this honor in large part due to the company’s broad offerings of socially responsible investing, as well as opportunities afforded us through the clients and organizations we serve.

Northern Trust remains fully focused on providing our clients, respected local professionals and community organizations with integrated wealth management solutions of financial planning, investment management, private banking and trust and estate services.

harmon-meek GalleryFor fifty seasons, Harmon-Meek Gallery has provided Naples residents and visitors with works of art by major American artists. By representing over 30 nationally renowned artists or artists’ estates, Harmon-Meek Gallery ensures quality fine art by the nation’s top artists is brought to Naples. Before Naples had any art museum, the gallery provided tours to area schools and art education programs. Harmon-Meek Gallery has been a part of the Corporate Partners Program of the CFCC since 2005, when the program began. Our commitment to sharing our passion for fine art with the entire Collier County community continues to this day through the Harmon-Meek fund.

Our charitable efforts are directed to two important local issues: first, to expand at risk children’s art education; second, to support the development of new art related entities associated with the area’s local and state Universities. It remains our intent to mobilize supporters of the Harmon-Meek Gallery in these causes. We have raised over $54,000 for our fund at the Community Foundation

through sealed-bid art auctions. In 2008, the Harmon-Meek Gallery donated nearly $30,000 to the art program at the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County and in 2009 donated $5000 to The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples.

From generating art donations worth $1 million to help establish the permanent collection of the Naples Museum of Art; to celebrating the gallery’s 40th anniversary in 2003 through an art raffle to raise $35,000 to benefit the Neighborhood Health Clinic; to raising over $325,000 through three art raffles at The von Liebig Art Center; to our most recent efforts to create a permanent art collection for the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, Harmon-Meek Gallery continues to serve Collier County.

In Collier County, that commitment inspires our team to support programs and activities that promote educational opportunities for youth, support community and economic development and benefit disadvantaged communities.

For years, we have served Naples and the greater Collier County community. Recently, we have expanded our presence locally to include retail banking branches and invested in building new offices around the city. Today, we are nearly 100 people strong in our community, focused on providing products and services that help consumers achieve their financial goals, support business growth, and strengthen communities. Around the state, our more than 17,000 employees in Florida are committed to the same principles.

In the last few years, we have been a proud supporter of the Community Foundation of Collier County and its remarkable dedication to the community of Immokalee. JPMorgan Chase Foundation is partnering with many local nonprofits, including The Immokalee Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Collier County, Guadalupe Foundation, The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, and Naples Art Association. Beginning in 2013, the Foundation will be launching a new partnership with Naples Botanical Garden

on an exciting education and workforce development initiative.

In 2011, JPMorgan Chase gave more than $7 million through grants and sponsorships to nonprofit organizations in Florida. We also support the individual interests of our employees through matching gifts and volunteer programs. Our unique Chase Community Giving program engages our customers in deciding which nonprofit organizations should receive support.

Also, JPMorgan Chase is committed to serving the unique needs of America’s military service members, veterans and their families by providing meaningful employment to our nation’s veterans, helping military families own and stay in their homes and meeting the unique financial needs of service members and their families.

Classical south Florida – 88.7The mission of Classical South Florida is to enrich the minds and nourish the spirit of our community through the art, availability and advocacy of classical music. As the only public radio station group in Southwest Florida dedicated to broadcasting classical music 24 hours a day, we provide opportunities for our community to enjoy and support classical music.

As a part of American Public Media, the second largest producer of public radio programs in the United States, we have the largest broadcast audience of any classical music radio producer in the United States.

Classical South Florida is a strong advocate for the arts and supports arts organizations in our community as together we work to promote interest in classical music for all ages. Classical South Florida became a part of the airways in South Florida in October of 2007; and in June, 2012 in Southwest Florida – making it possible to enjoy classical music from Charlotte County through Collier

County on the west coast and from the Palm Beaches to the Keys on the East Coast.

As a part of our mission we air radio programs that nourish the minds of our young people and encourage their learning through classical music. Programming like “From the Top,” which is the preeminent showcase for young musicians is broadcast Sundays at 7 p.m. This program celebrates the stories and performances of this nation’s outstanding pre-collegiate classical musicians.

Join us as we celebrate the beauty of classical music throughout our community.

Finemark national bank & trustSince its inception, the vision of FineMark National Bank & Trust has been, “To make a positive impact on the individuals, families and the communities we serve, while being good stewards of FineMark’s resources.” We believe it is our responsibility to be involved where help is needed in our community. As a company and as individuals, we give our time and our money to countless charities. Our entire staff is encouraged to volunteer a half day every month with pay, to support the organization of their choice. Many of them also volunteer their personal time, serve on boards and contribute financially to local organizations.

FineMark consistently has 100% participation in annual giving for the United Way and is proud to be one of the largest donors to the United Way in Southwest Florida. To date, FineMark has given $1,000,000 to numerous Southwest Florida organizations through sponsorships and donations, but we focus our efforts on the Arts and the health and well-being of children.

In 2011, FineMark worked with the Lee County School District and the United Way to create the Bridges Program, which works to provide suitable housing for homeless children and their families. FineMark also helped initiate another local program to help mentor foster children on the verge of ‘aging out’ of the foster care system. We have since hired a young man, recently out of the system, as a paid intern while he attends Edison College. Because we believe education and health care are significant areas of importance locally

and nationally, we’ve made $100,000 commitments to Florida Gulf Coast University and The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.

We also believe the Arts contribute to our community by educating, energizing and bringing people together. We therefore support a number of organizations that help enrich our lives through art and culture.

Whatever the cause, FineMark is dedicated to providing a culture of service to our clients and making a positive difference in the communities we serve. We are proud to support the Community Foundation of Collier County.

investment returnsThe Foundation’s General Endowment Pool is invested to produce consistent, limited-volatility, long-term investment returns, to provide sustainable funding to nonprofits in perpetuity. The above chart compares the General Endowment actual returns to a broad-based, multi-asset benchmark, although the investments are managed against specific, commonly accepted performance benchmarks for each asset class component.

Financial statementsThe majority of the Community Foundation’s assets are comprised of investments. These investments generate charitable dollars that are distributed to community nonprofits. The assets of the Foundation grow through new contributions and investment income, insuring increased grantmaking over the long run.

total Assets by Fund typeThe Community Foundation accomplishes its mission by offering various vehicles that assist donors in achieving their charitable goals. Many donors utilize Donor Advised Funds to facilitate their current giving while funds designated for specific nonprofits and unrestricted grantmaking create endowed legacies to help our community in perpetuity. Many families utilize split interest agreements, such as Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts, in order to achieve both their financial and philanthropic goals.

Community impact The Foundation benefits our community through its grants and program services. Grants to nonprofits provide funding which allows organizations to carry out their community programs. Program Services such as the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Women’s Philanthropic Network and Collier 211 bring together funders and nonprofits in order to support our community through education, grantmaking and community services.
