Decidedly more than enough

stock is being called in, as will

be seen by the following notice

which the Reveille is authorized to

publish :

Notice to Subscribers of the Canning Factory.

J All parties who have subscribed

stock to the Canning Factory are

requested to make a deposit of ten

per cent, of the stock subscribed not later than October 15th. This is

necessary in order to get charter up, and contract for building the factory.

Equinoctial Days.

The government forecast official

at New Orleans furnishes the pub

lic with some information regard

ing the equinox :The 21 st of September of each

(§) I year is supposed to be one of the

equinoxes, the other being on I March 21st, but the fall equinox

I did not occur on the 21st this year. {Equinox means equal day and {night, and on the 21st the day and

{days than that upon which the

I equinox falls. The great storms of {Aug. 18, of Oct. i, and the great

(g) Galveston stonn of two or three

s— j years ago, all fell on days other —| I than the equinoxes.

You Gain Nothing by Buying on Faith from Foreign houses

There are certain people in every

community who do their trading

either in St. Louis, Chicago or New

York, and usually pay more—ex

press charges included—than they would by buying from the home

merchant, often getting an inferior

class of goods. Why they persist in this is «

problem. Not taking into consid

eration the responsibility that every

good citizen must feel inthe work of

building up his own community, it

seems personal interest would cause

these people to consider the cost :

this money is forever gone, so far

as they are concerned, and while it

might have returned to them if

spent at home, it nevar will when

sent away.We abuse the people of the north

because they are wealthy and arro

gant while we of the south are poor and dependent, yet we pay tribute to them with millions of dollars of

our substance annually. Will we never learn that the

meat bought from the northern

packers, the grain bought from the

western farmers, the clothing, etc., bought from the Chicago depart

ment houses are draining this section of all its money.; If we raised our own meat, our

own corn and oata, traded with our home merchants—even if we had to

pay a few cents more, which is not
