logo. May is another VERY BUSY month for ourBeautification Committee as they continue to work ontrimming, adding new soil, mossrock and mulching. They are also planting mondo grass, lantana, liriope,Asian jasmine, flowers and crape myrtle trees. If yousee them out and about, please stop and thank thesewonderful volunteers for doing what is certainly themost physically difficult and definitely the dirtiest job,but one of the most rewarding jobs that the GPRAhas to offer.

Welldeserved thanks go (once again) to the AdultEvents Committee for organizing the first BBQCookoff & Country Hoedown. Who knew we had somany talented chefs, bakers and bull riders in GP?What will this group come up with next? Oh wait, weknow the answer to that…Please join us at theKentucky Derby Party next Saturday, May7th! A hardearned thank you goes to Kathy Thompsonfor putting in so much time and effort organizing ourApril “Spring Out” Dine In. For those who have nottried Dine In yet, please join us the next time. DineIn’s format is unique because neighbors sit down toeat together in smaller groups (before convening as alarger group at the end of the evening), providing anopportunity for neighbors to get to know each other inmore depth. Last, but far from least, a very special thank you goesto Cheryle’ Sanderson for sponsoring and hosting yetanother fabulous Friends in the Park. As usual, weate, drank, talked and listened to tunes provided byDJ Edward Estrada until it was half past dark. This isone of my personal favorite recurring neighborhoodevents because it never fails to bring together a greatgroup of new and “established” neighbors. As always, none of these events would be possiblewithout strong GPRA membership participation fromthe neighborhood. If you have not already paid 2016dues, it’s not too late. We might even have just a fewmore directories available… Just click here to getstarted. Best Regards, Angela Caveney

Security

Security for April proved to be extremely busy.Beyond their normal duties, our constables reallystepped up to the plate during the flood event twoweeks ago. Cpl Moody kept the GPRA Board and theSecurity Committee updated as much as possible. The deputies, and all first responders, worked 12hour shifts with no days off until the event wasdeclared clear. We greatly appreciate all that they did.

The Security Committee would also like to thankCorporal Moody, our other constables and theSheriff’s office for being so responsive to ourquestions. If you want to thank them in person, juststop and say thanks when they are working here inthe neighborhood.

We are close to my personal goal of 300 members inthe security program. We have already passed thegoal of raising enough funds to have an officer in theneighborhood for a minimum of four hours, every dayfor the remainder of the year. We now need tosupplement that achievement by getting enoughmembers to join so that we can increase the numberof routine hours and also so that, during events likethose from two weeks ago, we can add extra patrolsif need be and not worry about how we are going topay them.

For more information about the security program andits benefits, click here. If you are not already amember simply go to the payment page of ourwebsite to sign up. To view our security stats for April, click here

Every membership inthe security program helps keep our neighborhoodsafe, but did you know there is more you can do toprevent crime in our community? Become a memberof Neighborhood Watch! Through the NeighborhoodWatch, residents learn how to make their homesmore secure, watch out for each other and theneighborhood, and report suspicious activity to lawenforcement.

This program is run through the WoodlandsTownship. To maximize the benefits of this programwe need more block coordinators to increase activityin Grogan's Point. If you are interested in learningmore about neighborhood watch, being the lead onthis program or being a Block Coordinator, pleasecontact me, Fred Klinker, at [email protected].

Stamp Out Hunger is the nation's largest onedayfood drive, conducted in 10,000 cities and townsacross America by the U.S. Postal Service and theNational Association of Letter Carriers each year. The second Saturday in May was chosen for theannual drive because by then many food banks startrunning out of donations received during theThanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods andbecause there is often increased need in summerbecause most lowincome children are not in schooland do not receive free school lunches.

A simply gesture can make a huge difference in aperson's life.
