Christina Sandefur, Senior Attorney for Goldwater Institute, will discuss Propo-sition 303, the Arizona Terminal Pa-tients' Right to Try Referendum.
Also on tap in October is part two of our Fisher House program. In September we heard Peg Cottle talk about her experi-ences with Fisher House as a result of her son, a U.S. Marine, having his legs blown off by an IED explosion in Iraq. Peg will be here once again to talk a little bit more about the importance of Fisher House to our military men and women. See page two for more infor-mation on Peg Cottle and our Fisher House fundraising efforts.

Our October meeting will be jam-packed with activities. In addition to Rep. David Schweikert and Christina Sandefur, Senior Attorney, Goldwater Institute, educating us about two important state propositions, just like in September, we’ll continue to raise money for Fisher House. Here’s a run down of what’s going on.
Fisher House: Each November, Palo Verde Republican Women recognize and honor our veter-ans in some way. This year we are raising money for the new Fisher House to be built in the Fort Huachuca-Tucson area. One of our members, Peg Cottle, has a son who lost both his legs in Iraq from an IED explosive. During his hospitalization and rehabilitation, she was able to stay at a Fisher House in California for over three months at no expense. As you can imagine, she is grateful to have had the opportunity to be with her son during his recovery. The story has a happy ending--her son is fully recovered now, has two prostheses, is married and he and his wife are expecting their first child. Peg will give us part two of her presentation about the in-spired work of Fisher House.
Mark Brnovich, Republican Candidate For State Attorney General, To Perform Auctioneering Duties As We Look to Raise Additional Funds For Fisher House: Among other fundraising efforts to benefit the new Fisher House,
Palo Verde Republican Women is auc-tioning off two original paintings. The first, of a Cardinal (bird) named Fitzger-ald (get it?!?!?) was auctioned off with Jeff DeWit, Republican candidate for State Treasurer, acting as auctioneer, in September—see more on page X). Peg's other son, Matt, who is autistic, is an accomplished artist and donated two of his paintings. The second of Matt’s paintings will be auctioned off on Octo-ber 15th by Mark Brnovich, Republican candidate for State Attorney General. All proceeds to go to Fisher House.
Stuttering King Bakery Goody Bas-ket 50/50 Raffle: At our October meeting you will have an opportunity to win a basket full of mouth-watering and delectable baked goods—if you buy 50/50 raffle tickets. According to www.StutteringKingBakery.com,"In 2012, Matt and his mother, Peg, launched Stuttering King Bakery. Oper-ating out of the Cottles' home kitchen, they specialize in muffins, brownies, blondies, bars, cookies, and scones, specifically for event and business ca-tering in the Phoenix metro valley. Matt handcrafts each pastry with high quali-ty, natural, and locally-sourced ingredi-ents." All proceeds go to Fisher House.

This painting, entitled “Pears” will be auctioned off at our October meeting. Proceeds go to Fisher House. Mark Brnovich, Republican candidate for State Attorney General, has agreed to be our honorary auctioneer. Thanks Mark!

Our AzFRW State Meting will be here in Phoenix on October
24-25 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Phoenix. I hope many of
you will think about attending. It's good to go to at least one
of our meetings just to see what goes on! We usually share
hotel rooms and really bond with each
other, however, having the meeting in
Phoenix allows you to stay in your own
comfy bed should you choose, but still
attend the meetings and other activities.
Go to our AzFRW website for particulars
and to register.
We are working hard on our Awards pro-
gram for NFRW. Hopefully the State guide-
lines will be on the website soon. We want
to achieve the highest awards again...and
we will!
Remember, your service is needed at the campaign offices
of all of our candidates. Make sure to get out to one or two
and help get our side over the finish line....our Country, our
Constitution and our very lives depend on it!
Sweet nickers await.....off to the barn!

spend these last weeks helping to
make sure we put as many Republi-

not give our time, give money, it's
amazing what a few dollars can do for
a campaign! We need to help Wendy

our incumbent congressmen!

are a few scenes from the event.
On Saturday, September 13,

Headline
Page 5 Scenes from Our September Meeting
In September, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels was one of two guest speakers. Never afraid to speak the truth, Dan-
nels said that border security CANNOT be blended with immigration policy. He also said that the news media must start
reporting the facts. The situation has gotten so much worse, and our own American citizens living near the border are
afraid to leave home, or to go out in their yards at night. This cannot stand! But will our government stand with Sheriff
Dannels and do what needs to be done? So far, it seems like the answer is an emphatic “no.” We also were honored to
have Peg Cottle and her youngest son Matt join us. Peg shared her experiences with Fisher House as a result of her oldest
son, a U.S. Marine, having his legs blown off by an IED explosion in Iraq. Because of Fisher House her son has two new
legs, and is recently married and now has a child! Her son Matt brought two goody baskets from his company, Stuttering
King Bakery, which were raffled off and one original painting of a red cardinal which was auctioned off. Jeff DeWitt,
Republican candidate for State Treasurer, was our auctioneer. The painting went to Cheryl Pelletier for $425. In
November, we will present Fisher House all that we’ve raised over the last year.
A special thanks to Anita Rodriguez for taking most of these wonderful photos!

As we reported last month, the Palo Verde RW board has approved support for Family Promise, a nonprofit family homeless shelter. On October 2nd, the club provided din-ner for 8 families, for a total of 29 adults and children. Ka-ren Garrett, Joan Lang and Cheryl Pelletier were on hand to help prepare and serve pizza because that’s what these families requested! In addition, we provided fruit, salad, fried chicken, mac and cheese, plus dessert.
If you were not able to join us for our pizza dinner, we have another event to tell you about. On October 19th, we will provide twelve dozen donuts to accompany Rep. David Schweikert’s (AZ CD6) donated coffee at Family Promise’s annual "Cardboard City" fundraiser. At this event, sup-porting corporate and individual donors, as well as host churches, spend the night at Scottsdale Stadium. Partici-pants build cardboard shelters to create a city so that attendees can experience the plight of the homeless.
For more information on Family Promise please go to their website: http://familypromiseaz.org/. For more infor-mation and or/to volunteer to help, please contact Karen at [email protected].

Leadership
Many of us think of a leader as one individual who leads a group. Leadership can mean different things to different
individuals such as community leaders, political leaders, and leaders of campaign groups. Leadership is actually indi-
viduals who are collectively represented in an organization. These individuals share a clear vision and share that vision
with others. These individuals provide the information, knowledge, and methods to achieve the group’s vision. Most
important is these individuals will balance any conflicting interest of all members.
John Quincy Adams stated if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you
are a leader. So then what makes a leader?
This means if you disagree with a fellow member on an issue try to keep the focus on the ‘big picture’. No two people
are exactly alike and there will be differences. The old adage of ‘you are only as strong as your weakest link’ holds
true. Keep in mind there is a common cause that brought you all together.
Winning elections is a team effort. As part of one of the largest and most influential women’s political organizations in
the United States you need to work together to promote the objectives, policies and principles of the Republican Par-
ty. Inform the public through political education and activity. Think about increasing the effectiveness of people for
better government. Help to foster loyalty to the Party by promoting the principles and its candidates. Show support
for Republican policies and objectives. Get involved and work for the election of Republican candidates. Together we
can be strong leaders.

Political Education & Legislative Action
Here are two easy, fun ways to help two key GOP U.S. Senate candidate—Pat Roberts (Kansas) and Thom Tillis (North Carolina) win! You can call from home yourself OR better yet, invite friends over for a fun calling party. Ideally, call at least weekly for each.
1. Call Kansas Voters for Pat Roberts, GOP U.S. Senate Candidate.
What You'll Need: a computer or tablet and a phone (or a computer headset).
Here is the link to login to the system: http://pdp.i-360.com/PD//WebForms/Login.aspx Your login info: Username: 1465GUSA Password: Roberts2014 2. Call North Carolina Voters for Thom Tillis, GOP U.S. Senate Candidate. What You'll Need: a phone and paper voter call sheets and script Contact: Carrie Brown, North Carolina Deputy State Director at [email protected] or (919) 307-6155--to get voter call sheets and a calling script emailed to you. Let her know about how many calls you or your group can make. (You can return the sheets by mail so the campaign can scan them; faxing or emailing makes them unreadable to the scanner.)
Be a part of the nationwide groundswell that will take back our U.S. Senate!

Do You Know What is Red and Equals 2,717,991?
Did you know that Palo Verde Re-
publican Women is just one of
many Republican Women’s clubs in
Arizona that is chartered by the Na-
tional Federation of Republican
Women? If you have a Facebook
page or Twitter account, show your
support of our state federation by joining the Arizona Federation of Republican Women Facebook group
and following them on Twitter at @AzFRW. Thank you!
We are women, we are strong, and together we will make a
difference using social networking to win in November!
Michelle Creveling
Have you ever seen 2,717,991 of anything? In pennies, it is 27,179.91 cents, just shy of 150,000 pounds. In American lives it is the number of American soldiers who gave their lives to protect this Great Country. This number only counts those who died in battle or from wounds sustained in battle … there are many more. It does not count the injured, the POWs, the families who sustained great loss. All are casualties. In the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona there are 73,701 interments. Our goal is to remember 100 of these brave men and women. The cost of honoring one: 82 percent of the cost of two Big Macs and two Lattes, not counting tax; or 88 percent of the cost of Starbucks Vente Frappucino, Monday through Thurs-day (four days) tax not included. The laying of a wreath is small sacrifice and a prayer of gratitude for the sacrifices made by American veterans for our freedom.
Did you know that in Iraq, we have lost 4,487 men and wom-en. In Vietnam we lost 211,616 men and women; a total of 28 percent of the troops died. 1698 are still missing. America lost over a half million troops in the World wars, and over 600,000 in the Civil War. The thirteen colonies lost 25,324 troops.
Join Palo Verde Republican Women and our friends and fami-lies on December 14th at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona Wreaths Across America Ceremony. Buy wreaths, as many as you can afford. We need your assistance to make our goal of 100 wreaths.
The deadline to purchase a wreath is November 19th. Wreaths may be purchased at the monthly lunch-eon, or mailed to Michelle Creveling, 7119 East Shea Blvd., Suite 109-103, Scottsdale, Arizona 85254. Questions? Call 480-528-4085.

Palo Verde Republican Women (PVRW) was
chartered in January 1974 under the guidance
of Mrs. Joan Wood who became the club’s first
president. Most of the charter members had
been a part of Scottsdale Republican Women,
one of the most active groups in the state of
Arizona. The club eventually withdrew from
the National Federation of Republican Women
and member Joan Wood and others who
wished to remain in the Federation formed
PVRW. From the beginning, PVRW maintained
a reputation as a vigorous and active club, and
has remained a powerful force within the Fed-
eration to this day. We educate our members
through programs presented at our monthly
meetings (the third Wednesday of every
month—except July and August), through our
monthly newsletter (The Patriot), and by
attending AzFRW quarterly meetings.
