Year of Consecrated Life

That is why we tell everyone: Come and see!

In every human situation,

marked by frailty, sin, and death,

the Good News is no mere matter of words,

but a testimony to unconditional and faithful love:

it is about leaving ourselves behind and encountering others,

being close to those crushed by life's troubles,

sharing with the needy, standing at the side of the sick,

the elderly and the outcast ... Come and See!

Love is more powerful, love gives life, love makes hope blossom in the wilderness. ~ Pope Francis

.

HOW TO OPEN UP TO GOD’S WILL FOR US:

PRAY! The key to obtaining conviction is prayer. The Lord himself shows us that! We all

need to pray daily for God to lead us in obedience and faithfulness. Discerners need patience.

Ultimately, neither you nor the rules are in charge. Courtships can be lengthy. Religious

vocations can take a long time to unfold. There can be false starts. The process of making a life

commitment is easily described, but it's messy and imperfect in reality. We are dealing with

sinners, not angels. The man and woman at the altar are two imperfect people exchanging vows

of love and faithfulness. Every religious community and parish is populated by people marred

by sin. We shouldn't look for the perfect spouse or the perfect community. Even if we found the

perfect partner, the marriage wouldn't be perfect after we joined it. Those in discernment will

change. Those who are too rigorous, legalistic, rigid, and set on things being a certain way will

learn to adapt and be flexible. Those who like things to be loose and informal, never settled, will

learn the benefits of discipline and structure. Those who are too cautious and careful will learn

how to leap ahead with God's call. Risk-takers will learn the skills of caution and reflective

deliberation. Our life vocation is a treasure buried in a field, a pearl of great price. The grace

is in the calling. Pursue it at whatever the cost. ~ Father Michael Scanlon, T.O.R.

Please use this Prayer throughout the year!

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE

God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives of perfect charity

through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of

Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of

inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves

to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found

the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord

Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,

for ever and ever. Amen.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

As we joyfully gather to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord, I felt that today would be

an appropriate moment to share good news with Saint Patrick parishioners about how our

Capital Campaign is progressing.

As of March 31, with the participation of more than thirty percent of Saint Patrick

parishioners, plus other friends, pledges to the Capital Campaign have amounted to

$566,447. Of that amount, we have $276,873 “in the bank.”

We are grateful for all of those who have pledged and who, if they opted for a multi-year

commitment, are now fulfilling their pledges at regular intervals. For those who have not

yet indicated their participation in the Capital Campaign, be assured that it is never too

late to do so. Since setting our initial goal, we have learned that additional mechanical

engineering services will be necessary to address our heating and cooling system. Without

final numbers for all the necessary work, additional pledges to the Campaign will help

ensure that the necessary projects can be completed.

As springtime weather becomes milder, work will begin on the tuck-pointing, door-

refinishing, and gutter-replacement projects on our church building. Later on, the heating

and air-conditioning phases will get underway.

With gratefulness to the members of the Capital Campaign Committee and to the

parishioners of Saint Patrick Parish, I would like to wish all of you an Easter Season filled

with the Risen Lord’s abundant blessings. Father John Peeters, C.S.V.

Pastor

We need to hold on to Easter, and not let it

slip through our minds and hearts with no

noticeable effect. Resurrection faith is a

marvelous gift, if we are open to receive it.

It can change our lives and lead us to become

the forgiving, peace-filled people that Jesus

wants us to be. Joe Cece
