Patrician Park 2012 Yearling Draft

Page 2: Patrician Park 2012 Brochure

In years gone by, when more than 200 yearlings were offered at the WA Sales, we were supportive of a Select Section in the catalogue.

However it was apparent many months ago that the 2012 Yearling Sale was likely to attract approximately 100 yearlings.

Our point of view at Patrician Park was that with such a limited sale it would be better to have good lots spread through the four hours of selling.

Consequently we only nominated one of our yearlings for the select section .

Having said this we do respect the decision of Gloucester Standardbreds to go ahead with a Select Section and encourage all participants in the industry to set aside the afternoon and evening of Sunday the 26th of February to be at Belmont Park.

Lot 53: American Ideal - Margareta Ville Colt

This colt is big, strong and grey and is by a Western Hanover line sire, just like his classy half brother Chillin Dylan 1:55.8.

The sire, American Ideal, was an incredibly fast 3yo and is now transferring that speed to his progeny. The richest 3yo in NZ this season, Ideal Scott, is one, whilst Idyllic, American Jewel and Heston Blue Chip have all taken 1:51 records or better as 2yos in the US.

You know that this pedigree produces athletes - the dam has 2 winners from 2 foals, whilst all 12 foals of the grand dam made it to the races for 9 winners.Eleven winners from

14 foals in the first two dams.

Lot 60: American Ideal - Pleasedontstop Filly

Here is a well balanced, strongly built filly from a mare who only knows how to produce winners.

In fact of her first five foals, all have won and accumulated close on $400,000 between them. The 6th and 7th foals are a current 3yo and 2yo respectively.

We consider American Ideal to have been one of the fastest 3yo colts to have won in North American this century. He is now becoming one of the leading sires of juvenile speed.

This filly’s pedigree produces ready made horses, many of them female, so she should be on your shopping list.

From his first two US crops American Ideal is the sire of the outstanding fillies Idyllic and American Jewel

Lot 62: Art Major - Priscilla Rocks Colt

Well they don’t come much better than this - by one of the top three stallions in the World, from a $100,000 winning 2 and 3yo filly.

Art Major set another siring record in Australia in the 2010/11 season and with colts like Sushi Sushi and Restrepo setting tracks alight you just know there are more good things to come.

Priscilla Rocks, by Courage Under Fire, won 8 races in a relatively short career and was a barnstorming third in the 2008 WA Oaks.

This colt is correct, with a lovely nature and covers the ground with long, fluent strides.

Priscilla Rocks placed in both the Gr.1 Golden Slipper at 2 and the Gr.1 WA Oaks at 3.

Lot 83: Badlands Hanover - Amarantine Filly

This filly was the first foal born at Patrician Park in 2010 and has been a great type from day one. The mould hasn’t altered in the past 17 or 18 months - she is still a great type, very athletic and with a lovely nature.

Amarantine won five races and carries a 3 x 3 cross to Abercrombie, hence it was an easy decision to breed her to Badlands Hanover, a World Champion son of Western Hanover.

Badlands Hanover has achieved remarkable success over Abercrombie line mares - his 3 millionaire pacers in North America are all out of Abercrombie line mares.

Take a good look at this filly, you won’t be disappointed.

An attractive filly bred on the right sort of cross.

Lot 92: Grinfromeartoear - Crystal Journey Colt

The record book shows that this colts mother could run - a career of 11 wins and $113,185. We know his dad was an exceptional pacer winning $1.75 million as a 2 and 3yo.

Now the build and demeanour of this colt would suggest he will accumulate a pretty tidy race record as well - he is smart and tends to pace free legged everywhere.

The pedigree is laced with outstanding pacers - eight $100,000 earners listed on his page whilst his sire is one of only two stallions ever to sire dual $3 million earners.

This is a colt any yearling buyer would love to take home.

Crystal Journey won four races at Gloucester Park and over $100k.

Lot 99: Elsu - Ima High Rolla Colt

We all remember what a powerhouse of a pacer Elsu was - one of the very few horses to ever go undefeated through an Inter Dominion series.

Well this colt has a powerhouse build and a kind nature to go with it.

His dam Ima High Rolla had a quick turn of foot, but wasn’t the toughest mare to grace the racetrack. However her grand dam Ferrari Trunkey was both fast and strong - winning over $260,000 more than 20 years ago.

Remember he is also the first colt of the dam - just like Smoken Up, Washakie, Smiling Shard, David Hercules and many others.

The first foal of a Group Three Sales Classic winning mare.

Lot 103: Gotta Go Cullect - Living On Love Filly

She’s near the end of the sale, but good things come to those who wait. We are pretty sure you won’t find many better types than her earlier in the sale - she has had quality about her since 27th September 2010.

We believe her sire, Gotta Go Cullect, has a huge chance to make his mark as a sire given his ability and breeding.

This is the first foal of her Village Jasper dam, who happens to be a full or half sister to 4 in 2:00 including Chivalrous Fella.

There are also plenty of top females in this family including Nemeeshar.

A member of the debut crop of the record setting Gotta Go Cullect.

Page 10: Patrician Park 2012 Brochure

If ever there was a colt born to be great then it was Gotta Go Cullect - a product of the immortal Chrisitan Cullen and one of the toughest and most talented fillies to set foot on a Southern Hemisphere racetrack this century in Elect To Live.

Well the racetrack talent was inherited - Gotta Go Cullect won his first four starts as an early 2yo including setting a New Zealand record in the Cardigan Bay stakes. By the way in that race he gave Tintin In America and Highview Tommy a pacing lesson.

Unfortunately an accident training on the beach as a late 2yo limited this Christian Cullen look a like to just nine starts for five wins and three seconds. His trainer Sue Martin rated Gotta Go Cullect at least as good as her other star pupil, Gotta Go Cullen 1:58.3 - $1.143 million, but with more high speed.

Christian Cullen was a freakish racehorse and one of the most influential sires to ever stand in New Zealand.

Elect To Live, from the first crop of Live Or Die, won six Group One races as a 2 and 3yo filly including the NZ, GN and NSW Oaks. Probably her defining performance was in the 2002 Australian Derby, when she ran the colts ragged rating 1:59.7 over the 2700 metre trip.

Three of her vanquished rivals that afternoon were Henschke, Tricky Vic and Lombo Skyrider who went on to win over $1.7 million between them.

So will Gotta Go Cullect continue the Christian Cullen siring dynasty? One thing is for sure - he has the breeding, the raw ability and is siring great looking athletic types that have the Cullen look. He is well on his way.
