He will need all your encouragement to negotiate that transition. I offer him a personal thank you for the demolition job in the rectory (yes, we really demolished a room), “weeding” my garden, watering the plants, and not killing my cats while I was gone to South Dakota. Lists do not do justice to the lasting effect he has had on us and I will personally miss daily having him around to harass. Many blessings to you Mark, you are always welcome back. Fr. Joe, Fr. Back to School

This weekend is Mark Livingston’s last in the parish before returning to Sacred Heart Major Seminary to continue his studies for ordination. We have been privileged to host him over the summer and have come to appreciate all that he has done for us in that short period. Many parishioners will have experienced first hand the work of the New Evangelization through Mark’s efforts of getting Operation Olive Branch up and running. Whether you visited homes, wrote letters or prayed for its success Mark made you feel a vital part of what God is doing.

The kids will remember him for his playground antics and his Jesus role during VBS. The staff will cherish his encouraging smile and the skillful way he communicated his ideas. At Mass you probably wondered what that fifth server was doing up on the altar and now you know it was our humble seminarian. I am grateful for his contribution to life in the rectory and the example of his personal prayer which often inspired me to pray more. In that vein I ask that you remember Mark in your prayers as he leaves behind a loving community that supported him and re-enters the academic environment of the seminary. Fr. Joe, Fr. #SHIFT . . .Your way of thinking, your way of

understanding the worth and dignity of each person

This past week, 45 teens participated in an immersion experience of Christian Service. Confirmation candidates from St. Augustine and Holy Family were sent forth each day to eight different work sites, to live out the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Pictured is a group that gathered at the Council on Aging in Port Huron to prepare, pack and deliver Meals on Wheels to approximately 120 seniors and homebound people. Another group was sent one day to Mid–City Nutrition in St. Clair to prepare and serve a hot lunch to over 140 people.

THANK YOU! Thank you to the nearly 175 parishioners of Holy Family and St. Augustine whose dedicated and open hearts allowed us to visit roughly 120 formerly active parishioners at their homes in only 3 Saturdays through Operation: Olive Branch! This is incredible. It was an incredible display of teamwork. Hearts were changed; most especially, our own!

Through the generosity of time, talent and resources, we were able to feed, train and meet many people. In the end, there were roughly 50 home visitors, almost 20 hospitality workers, 60+ folks praying in the church, and 20+ folks volunteered their time to write letters of gratitude to the neighbors with whom we spoke. Thank you to each of you! A very special thanks is extended to Cindy Wronski for her incredible creativity, organization, diligence and donation of printed materials for the effort. A special thanks also goes out to the Youth Group, Barb Armstrong, the Loper Family, the Austin Family, the Severini Family, the Leadership Team and their spouses (too many to mention individually), George Moomaw, Susan Finley, Patti Misiuk and Barb Quigley, our bulletin peeps, and the countless other parish leaders whom I am forgetting now, but without whom it never would have been possible. Let's go out once a month going forward, to call our neighbors home to Jesus and His Church!

MISSION STORIES

Of all the beautiful stories from our home visits last weekend, one stands out for its simple power

and authenticity. A home visitor shared with us in the church (paraphrased), "Nothin extraordinary

happened in our conversations on the porches of the people we visited. It was all pretty ordinary.

But, on the way back to the church, I was filled with extraordinary love for the people we visited. I

loved them and wanted what is best for them - Jesus! Something changed in my heart."

This may be the main point of Operation: Olive Branch -- that the Lord will open and change our

hearts by his grace as a result of this evangelization work. We entrust the people we visit to Jesus,

and we leave changed people as a result of his grace working in us. Our hearts having been filled

with love for our neighbors, let's prepare to welcome them home soon!

The festival committee is in need of someone willing to help with the children's games. Our current chairperson will have everything organized, however, she is not able to oversee the games during the festival as she just welcomed a baby girl into their family. We need someone who is willing to oversee the games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival. It would involve setup, take down and overseeing the games.

If you are interested in helping out please contact Teri Manteuffel at 586-504-0020. Thank you!

Can you sew, knit,

crochet or cut squares?

You are needed!

Holy Family has had a Prayer Blanket Ministry for 10 + years. Their efforts have given many moments of comfort to those in need. We want to thank all of those who have helped over the years. Due to life circumstances, the number of members has declined and we are seeking some new members. The only level of skill is the desire to help others. We create prayer scrappy quilts, afghans, prayer shawls and slippers for those that are struggling with physical and emotional challenges. We will resume meeting in September, at Holy Family, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. It is not mandatory to come each time we meet, however it offers a time for supplies to be picked up, to learn new techniques, and to meet the ladies that are also working on the prayer blanket ministry. If you are interested in joining or you have questions, please call Donna at 810-392-3106 or Catherine in Holy Family’s parish office at 810-392-2056.

… for all of the generous donations, volunteering of time and effort by everyone to help make the Holy Family Fun Festival a success!

St. Augustine/Holy Family Golf Outing Results

We would like to thank the 66 golfers, the many volunteers, and all other contributors who participated in the golf fundraiser at Oak Ridge Golf Club on Sunday, July 26. It was a very warm, but dry day, and everyone who participated had a great time. We are pleased to report that the net proceeds from the outing was $5,306. All proceeds are to be directed toward the purchase and installation of new bleachers at the Holy Family Gym. As of today, we have raised $8,005 toward the bleachers, (between the golf outing, and last year’s School Auction), which is over 50% of our target. (The total installed price is $15,900).

We would especially like to recognize the following volunteers for their time and efforts:

Committee: Dean Bartolomucci, Tony Cattivera, Tim Kerry, Steve Kesler, Ray Pecoraro, Keith Robinson

Outing Volunteers: Carol and Tyler Bartolomucci; Christine Gibbons; Lisa and Abby Hoppe; Jennifer, Anthony and Alexandra Kerry; Isabela Pecoraro; Marianne Redhage; Colleen Robinson; Sheila, Andrew and Ava Zauner.

We hope to see you all at next years outing!! Tim Kerry, School Committee Chair
