Dear Parishioners, I am very sad to inform you that long-time dedicated parishioner FRED LUDWIG died on Friday, Feb- ruary 17, 2017 at his home in Southampton Es- tates. He had been on hospice for about a month. His death is a great loss to Our Lady of Good Coun- sel parish, to Southampton Township, and to me personally. He was a friend of my family since our coming to the parish in 1965. We (and many) have been the beneficiaries of Fred's kindness and gener- osity for years. In his 1998 book The Greatest Generation, Tom Brokaw described the character of Americans who grew up in the Great Depression and served in World War II. Fred Ludwig epitomized all that is great about that generation. He served his country in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945, and continued serving his community and his Church for the rest of his life. Fred was an important leader and worker in our par- ish for over 50 years during the pastorates of Monsi- gnor McNelis, Monsignor Trinity, and Monsignor D'Angelico. Before his retirement, Fred would even take personal vacation time to coordinate and serve our parish carnival. In my pastorate, he and his wife Rita Dale Ludwig have been very supportive to me. They faithfully coordinated our parish's minis- try to the Southampton Estates and supported many OLGC events and programs. Fred was passionate in his love for God, the Catho- lic Church, and OLGC. He truly was a "pillar of the parish." May God bless him eternally for all that he did for OLGC and the entire Southampton commu- nity. I pray that the Lord has already greeted Fred with the words: "Well done, good and faithful ser- vant. Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matt. 25:23). Please pray for the repose of his soul and the consolation of Rita Dale and all of us who miss him. Rev. Robert G. Donald Nohs, known as the “Apostle of the Holy Shroud” and General Director of the Confraternity of the Passion Inter-national, travels world-wide conducting enlightening and interactive presentations on the Shroud of Turin. A relic of the Holy Shroud of Turin and a miraculous image of the Holy Face of Jesus that was documented to have shed blood will be available for veneration.
