The Parenting Programme is based on the Parent-Centred Parenting (PCP) model of family life, which interprets a range of child development theories in the light of demands of family life in the 21st century. This model has been developed by Dr. Amanda Gummer, a research psychologist, founder of FUNdamentals and mother of two.

The central tenet to the PCP model and the Parenting Programme is that the best thing parents can do for their children is be confident, fulfilled, emotionally healthy role models. We help parents identify their own values and provide insight into child development so that parents can make informed decisions about their family life.

The Parenting Programme is a comprehensive series of workshops, seminars and bespoke support for parents and professionals working with families.

Childcare professionals and other people working with families also benefit from the Parenting Programme as part of their professional development, whereas policy makers and governors are helped to ensure that their organisation is leading by example and that the ethos of family support is apparent at all levels of the organisation.

Because the Parenting Programme is based on a theoretical model, the support is flexible and can be tailored to meet your needs. Call or email us to discuss how we can help you provide children with happy, healthy, stable homes in which to thrive.

Why the programme works:

• Children learn by copying.

• They learn most from their parents and carers.

• Having a good role model gives kids a great start.

• A parents role in the family is just as important as everyone elses.

• It helps parents get rid of guilt and empowers them to be the adults they want their children to become.

❛Amanda always gives a prompt and considered response to questions and her sound advice, based on years of experience, is very much appreciated.❜- Mandy Garner,

Martyr Mum and Do-it-all dads run themselves ragged for the sake of the children, but is that really what’s best for the kids?

Parents are the lynch-pin of the family. If they are fulfilled, confident and supported, they will be able to be healthy positive role models for their children. Doing what’s best for the child doesn’t have to involve hours of scheduled ‘quality time’ or extra tuition.

Children really benefit from having parents who:

• Feel confident because they are informed

• Fulfilled, because they prioritise their own needs as well as those of the children

• Affectionate because they have the emotional capacity to accept and love their children unreservedly.

Having good role models gives children a chance to fulfil their own potential and mature into happy healthy independent adults themselves.

Popular topics include:

• Play - the importance of play in healthy development - playing with your child

• Education • Activities• Managing change• Child development – what’s normal?• Childcare choices• Reducing stress • Money - parenting on a budget

- teaching your children about money management

❛Amanda has a unique outlook on the role of parents that helps to release them from the pressures and guilt of what they SHOULD do and allow them to enjoy the mundane day to day aspects of family life. Both her background in child development and experience as a mother informs her work and gives her great empathy for parents. She is a pleasure to work with.❜- Kerri Summers, The Parent Company

Everyone wants what’s best for children, but how often to we stop and check what we mean by ‘best’. A stable, supportive home is the most important factor in a child’s development and by helping parents as well as the children, you can make your own job a lot more rewarding. As professionals you are well-placed to help parents understand their children’s needs, whilst at the same time supporting parents in their role.

The programme is designed to help you to maximise the value you can add to each child, whilst considering the importance of the home environment and evaluating strategies to encourage positive relationships between the organisations and individuals in a child’s life. This is at the forefront of current best practice and is one of the key recommendations of the recent Tickell Review.

Popular topics include:

• Every child matters – how child development can help meet the National Curriculum targets

• Peer-to-peer learning and its benefits• Social development – closing the gender gap, increasing

attainment• Home – school relationships• Identifying and supporting vulnerable families • Empowering parents

For professionals workingwith children & familiesIt’s a win win situation
