THE PANDA NEWS
A Note from the Counselor’s Corner
Can’t believe we’re almost to Winter Break. Time sure does fly here at Pasadena. Guess we’re having fun! Panda Pride lessons are going well. We learned about the character trait of Citizenship in November and then Caring in December. For Citizenship, we talked about what it means to be a good citizen of this country and ways to be a positive member of the classroom community. For Caring, we talked about ways to show kindness and com-passion to others. Students in grades K through 2 are being “bucket fillers” by learning how to give compliments to show kindness and caring, and 2nd graders made “caring cou-pons” to take home for family members. On November 25th, the 5th grade Leadership Group held a fundraiser to benefit the Red Cross. They sold donuts and hot chocolate before school. It was so popular that—by the end—we completely sold out of every donut and cup of hot chocolate! As you probably know, the Red Cross helped wildfire victims right here in Washington state. The wildfires this summer were the largest in state history and forced many, many people from their homes. The Red Cross also helped out during the recent windstorm. Pennies for Patients will be our next Fundraiser. It will begin on January 18th and go for three weeks. Pennies for Patients supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their fami-lies. It continues to be a privilege to work at such a wonderful school. We appreciate all the parent support! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Happy Holi-days and have a great Winter Break! Jody Shapiro and Sue Shipton

Cold Weather Attire:
Please remember that students will play outside at recess throughout the winter. It is important, therefore, that stu-dents dress warmly. Clothing appropriate for the weather will ensure that your child is comfortable during the winter months. Students not appropriately dressed for the weather (i.e., in shorts, t-shirts, etc.) will be asked to stay indoors dur-
ing recess for their safety and wellbeing. Students who are feeling uncomfortably cold should talk to one of the playground supervisors about staying inside or coming inside to warm up.
Joel Brantley visited Pasadena on December
11th for the “Bullying if not OK, Take a stand
against bullying” assembly. Joel spoke about
the 3 R’s - Respect, Responsibility, and Rock n’
Roll. His engaging message covered the im-
portance of being a good role model and the
character trait, caring, for the month of
December.
A few of our 5th graders offered to help in the
library instead of going to recess. Mrs. Greule
happily accepted the help and enjoyed listen-
ing to them read new library books to Mrs.
Rothstrom’s Kindergarten Class.
Thank you to all who
joined us for our assem-
bly in honor of the Veter-
ans in our community.
A special thanks to
Mr. McMannis and his
class for putting together
a wonderful presentation
filled with photographs
of the Veterans close to
the hearts of many of our
students and families.
News from the PBIS Team
Here we are almost to winter break…where has the year gone? We are continuing with our building- wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Sup-ports (PBIS) system as a means to reward expected behaviors and prevent and manage unwanted behaviors both in classes and in the hallways, cafe-teria, playground, bathrooms, and buses. Kelso’s Wheel carries on as our go-to resource for students to learn to problem solve independently. We had a walking assembly, a refresher of the basic rules, several weeks ago when we saw a need. We will be conducting another soon after school gets back up to speed in January.
Wishing you a warm and peaceful winter break! GO SEAHAWKS!!!
