Lucas is a 10 years old boy who born on a rich family from Copaca-bana, on Rio de Janeiro. Since very young, he was the center of the attention of those who lived with him, from his parents to the maid. One day, he decided to go for riding his bicycle. Since he always had people around him, he never had to do things by himself. And that’s why Lucas didn’t knew that when you leave home, you have to warn someone.

On his bicycle, Lucas went through the park that was close to his house. Since he always walked with the family’s driver, he never had the chance to pass by there and watch the landscapes close to his house. And so, he walked around the trees, saw the people, went to the fountain and followed some birds using his bike.

However, Lucas started to notice the landscape was changing. The ground wasn’t straight anymore, and the there wasn’t buildings, but simple houses, some even without painting. Then, the boy noticed that he had left the park a while and didn’t knew where he came from. All he could see was the hill ahead to him, and a lot of people walking on the small streets.

When he noticed that he was lost, Lucas decided to go to the people who were there, to know how to go back home. However, all the adults did was to give him a mean look, after all, he was using branding cloths, and was visible that he had some money. Scared, Lucas sit on the sidewalk and started to cry, thinking that he would never return home.

Suddenly appeared a boy, coming from a little house of the upper street. Even with fear, Lucas didn’t left, because the boy was smil-ing. As soon as he arrived, he sat at Lucas’s side, and to play with the small rocks of the street, but still looking to the other boy.

- Hi, i never saw you here before. Who are you? - said the boy- My name’s Lucas. I don’t live here, I think i’m lost. I was riding my bicycle and, when i saw, i was here. The other boy didn’t answered, just kept looking to Lucas.- Your bike’s nice. Can i ride it? Lucas, then, remembered his father, who always said that they rob people by taking their bicycle away. Scared, he answered:- Please, don’t steal my bike, i’m lost and I don’t know how to get back home.

- Wait, you think i’m robbing you? - said the other, with a angry and sad face at the same time.- My father told me the boys from the street are robbers and steal from the others...- I ain’t a street boy. I may live on the hill, but i also have family and house. And your father is a idiot to say that, because not all the street boys are like that. Ashamed, Lucas put his head down. - I’m sorry...- There’s no need to apologize. Just don’t be prejudiced like this...

Lucas put his bike on the light pole.- What’s your name? - he asked- Daniel - answered the other, now smiling - I live on the upper street, with my godmother and my sister.- Nice. my name’s Lucas.- Nice to meet you, Lucas. You said you were lost. How you came here?- I left home to ride my bike, and when i noticed, i didn’t knew where I was anymore. - said Lucas, with a sad face.- And you didn’t warned anyone? - said Daniel. - Are you crazy to go walking alone like this on Rio de Janeiro?

- I don’t usually leave home alone, but I think i’m already grown enough to take care of myself - said Lucas, with a smile.- Ah, really? There’s a friend of mine who always said that. He thought he could take care of himself. One day, we were playing soc-cer on the field down there. - Daniel pointed to the field. Nothing more than a cemented ground with marks of a soccer field drawn with chalk. The beams where old trash cans.- Until someone kicked the ball too strong and it went to the other side of the avenue. This friend went to cross alone to get the ball . Until came a car very fast upon him. If we didn’t had yelled him to run, the car would have run over him. All because he didn’t knew how to walk alone without looking to the two sides of the street.

- Ah, but this I already knew. I’ve learned this when I was younger. - said Lucas, grabbing a little rock and drawing the Christ the Redeem-er and the Sugar Loaf.- Do you like to draw? - said Daniel- A lot. One day I want to learn those graffiti draws...- Then you would like to meet my friend. No one knows his real name, but everyone knows him by “De”. He’s famous by filling the walls here on the hill with a lot of D’s, with different types and colours. He’s very cool.

- Nice, I want to meet him one day. - said Lucas. - But so, Daniel. How’s to live here in the hill?- Dude, is and isn’t nice. I see a lot of bandits walking on the street, but the people is very nice, we’re a big family here. Very different from Zona Sul.- What you mean? - asked Lucas- Ah, my godmother said that there are only rich and stupid people there. And that you hate poor people - said Daniel, with a sad face.- It’s not like that. There are bad and good people everywhere, and not everybody is like this...

- Yeah, that’s what I hear people here talking. I don’t know no one from Zona Sul. What you do there on your building? - asked Daniel- That depends. When i come back from school, I usually ride my bicycle and play soccer with my friends on the playground.- I really like to play soccer. My friends here from the hill say that i’m a great goalkeeper. I dream to play for Brazil one day.- Yeah, I play as striker. But I don’t want to be a soccer player. I always wanted to be musician. But my parents says that music isn’t a career. - said Lucas

- Yeah, but isn’t the way things are, Daniel. You have to think on your future too. - said Lucas, serious. - Or you pretend to live here for-ever?- Yeah, I don’t. I wish I had money to give a nice house to my godmoth-er, even if we like to live here in the hill. But would be nice to live on seaside, or in a building... - said Daniel.- Exactly. My father says that dreams are importants, but to reach them, you have to work hard.Daniel smiled.- Yeah, true story. I think your father must be a nice guy. And very intelligent too.

Then, a old lady left the same house which Daniel came before, and walked in the direction of the boys.- Daniel, who’s this kid? - she yelled while walking.- It’s a friend of mine. He lives close to the beach. We were talking about a lot of things.- The beach? You know I don’t want you with this “rich people”. They are mean person.- You can’t say this, aunt. Lucas is a nice guy. He’s much more nice than a lot of people from the hill. You can’t judge him without knowing him. - said Daniel. Then, a car appeared on the street and parked at the side of the kids.

- Lucas, my son! - yelled Lucas’s mother, coming out of the car, followed by the father. They’ve hugged and kissed the boy.- You’re alright? Did they robbed you? I got worried when they’ve said you came up here 0on the hill. You know this place is full of bad people.- No, mom. - answered Lucas. - I’m made a new friend, Daniel. We talked about a lot of things, and even if he lives here, he isn’t a bandit like you said. He’s the best friend I ever had.- You’re also my best friend. - said Daniel. Then, everyone silenced. That unexpected friendship scared every-one. Daniel and Lucas were totally different, and that’s exactly why they became friends.

That day, both families learned something. They’ve learned that isn’t just because you are from a social class that you can’t interact with rich and poor people. Everyone saw that the other side of the society is totally different from what people say. Daniel and Lucas became great friends and started to play together all the time. A friendship who only born because there wasn’t prejudice from both kids.
