Winning the Popularity Contest for Your Event: Social Event Marketing for 2015Dan KinneyNever before has there been a Social Media workshop like this! Learn how to grow your event attendance, popularity, and excitement before the event ever begins. Attendees will receive all the tools to implement this program in their own festival or event. This workshop will focus on the months leading up to your event, the days of your event, and how to keep the conversation buzzing long after your event has ended.

Minute to Wine It and Vodka TastingKim LyddaneThis wild and silly icebreaker is back and even better than last year (if you can imagine that!). Are you a card ninja or a master with a slinky? Have you ever tried to move cotton balls using only your nose? Do you have a certain skill at stacking cups? Want to shake your “junk in the trunk” for a chance to win a prize? If so, then this event is for you! Bonus tickets will go to those who think quick on their feet and show their wild side. Not a bad way to kick o a conference and meet other attendees. If games are good, then Vodka might be better. We will also be having a Vodka tasting as part of our kicko event!

Opening Keynote: Ripples of Possibilities Rekindle Passion and Ignite Potential in Yourself and OthersPaul WesselmanIn a world of competing priorities, multiple pressures from multiple sources and overwhelming work and life challenges, many of us have buried our passion and potential under years of stress, disappointment, and obstacles. THERE IS HOPE in small, everyday actions that can enliven ourselves, our colleagues, and our communities. We are absolutely sure you won’t forget spending an hour with one of the most engaging speakers we’ve ever seen. Ever.

Strategies for Sanity: Preventing Burnout and Managing Stress Paul WesselmanEven people who love their work can (and do!) burn out if their lives are not in balance. Of course, “in balance” means dierent things to dierent people and so we are going to approach stress and burnout management from a dierent perspective. Once we recognize that we all have limits on our time, energy and passion we can learn to set boundaries that help us maximize our resources. Then we can learn how to decline opportunities that might be fun or otherwise benecial and yet are not a good use of our resources. Finally, a quick assessment can demonstrate our strengths and weaknesses in creating a balanced life.

Festivals and Events – Which Legal Entity is Right for You?Vince SliwkiLimited liability companies, corporations (non-prot and for-prot), partnerships, sole proprietorships… which one should you be? There are many entities to choose from, each with its own benets and drawbacks. How do you choose? There is no “one size ts all” approach and it’s important to learn about the options to consider whether you are on the right track. During this session, attorney Vincent Sliwoski will: dene the various types of legal entities, review the fundamentals of how each entity is taxed, outline the liability considerations for owners, discuss corporate governance regulations, and answer questions.

Security and Crowd Control: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt YouKaren Evans and Suzy HerringDiscover how to stay in compliance with the security sta at your events. What you don’t know may hurt you! You will receive a pocket handbook that will help you easily determine certication requirements. Learn how to determine if sta need to be certied and the roles volunteers can and cannot play. Meet the investigators that will be working with you to make your event a success. Learn about potential changes on the horizon.

Making Moments MatterPaul Wesselman“If only I had more time, I could get everything done!” If you believe this, then you absolutely need this strategy-lled, perspective-shifting presentation that is unlike any time management training you’ve received. Time is a more valuable commodity than money and it is VITAL for our success and sanity that we spend it well. Join us to quickly explore some of the myths of time management

and identify actions we can immediately implement to improve our eectiveness and enjoyment at work and in life.

Event Volunteers: How Do You Get Them and What Do You Do With Them?Carol Lail Volunteers are the life-blood of any event -- so how do you nd them, recruit them, and keep them coming back? During this fast-paced seminar, presenter Carole Lail will cover tips and techniques that have been the foundation for successful volunteer programs for 20 years of Tacoma’s annual 4th of July celebration, Freedom Fair; Tacoma’s 2005 Tall Ships Festival; and other events and activities in both the military and civilian communities. Learn why volunteers volunteer, ways to reward their hard work, and how to help volunteers transition from episodic to long-term volunteers.

Secrets to Ordering Your LifeVicki NorrisOrganizing is not what you think it is. It’s not a chore, a long list, or just the “before and after” that we see in magazines and on television. Organizing is – above all – a change process. That’s why we avoid it! In “Secrets to Ordering Your Life” you will learn a fresh new perspective on living an ordered life and nd out how it can be a means to a fullling life. You will learn: what authentic organizing really is, the nancial and human costs to disorder, steps to “restore order” to your life, and the key to a reclaimed life.

Moving from Complaints to CollaborationTasha HarmonDo you get frustrated dealing with people who seem to just want to complain? Do you wish they’d quit complaining and help make things better? Complaints—our own and other people’s—are highly contagious and can feel like burdens and shut us down. Learn simple, e ective ways to shift your own approach, and your organization, team, or relationship, from a dynamic of complaint to a dynamic of collaboration!

“Lawyering Up!”Jim Delapoer and Sean KiddHow do you balance free speech with event disruption? What do you do when the homeless “move into” your event or festival? Can you ban smoking, e-cigarettes, and marijuana? Are the rules the same for public venues as they are for private events? What are the questions, issues, and problems you are wrestling with? Two of our best event and festivals lawyers will lead this highly interactive session where we will together try to puzzle out the best solutions to the issues that are bothering us. They may not know all the answers but together we can nd a way to balance a conservative, legal approach with our practical need to get stu done. You are the panel….lets “lawyer up” together.

Economic Impact of Festivals and Events: Challenges and OpportunitiesJeff DenseFestivals and events throughout Oregon have a profound cultural, social, and economic impact on the communities in which they are held. While attendance gures provide a quick snapshot of ‘success’, a deeper understanding of the economic impact of festivals and events requires rigorous methodology and ensuring statistical analysis. These measurement challenges are particularly keen at multi-site festivals. The session provides an overview of the author’s research into the economic impact of festivals and events in Oregon, with a focus on implementation of sound methodological practices, sharing results with stakeholder groups, and leveraging the outcomes for the future success of festivals.

Tools for Getting UnstuckTasha HarmonFeeling stuck is an experience common to us all. It sti es our creativity, brings up judgment and anxiety, and wastes a great deal of time. In this highly interactive workshop you’ll learn ways to get out of stuck spots, make decisions you’ll feel good about and create the forward motion required to make the changes you want and need.

What Do Sponsors WantSponsor PanelThe world of sponsorships is constantly changing and always challenging, but oh, so rewarding! Join our panel of sponsors for a frank discussion of how to achieve sponsorship success. What is it sponsors really want?  What can you give to them? Is signage better than media? How important are the perks? When it comes to sponsorship it is de nitely not “one size ts all!” A sponsorship is not an ATM machine! You have to identify the sponsor’s needs, determine how those needs can be met through your festival or event, and then help them manage the process. Everything has to have an activation or experiential element to it…and sponsors want to know how they can measure their Return On Investment (ROI). Hear from some of Oregon’s great sponsors as they share their thoughts on what makes it work for them.

Telling Your Event Story with Pictures mothy BishopHow do you get spectacular photos of your events? And if you have them, what in the world do you do with them to maximize their value? Why do you need a “shoot list”? Why do you need great photos, how can you use them, what should you look for, and what do you do with them once you have them…these topics and more in this session that will have you leave believing a picture really is worth a thousand words!

Hiring the right security company is the rst step in protecting your investment. A lot of security companies try to be all things to all clients. They claim expertise in everything from A to Z. Some even have ‘Security Universities’. Really? It’s symbolism over substance. At CYA they do one thing, and they do it better than anyone else.
