Federation of Observatory Resources

24/7 Distributed Sensor Grid

• Traditional developments in Grid technologies have concentrated on providing batch access to distributed computational and storage resources.

• Desire to access, control, and acquire data from widely networked distributed instruments reflects the need to include such scientific equipment as sensors and probes in the Grid (Real & Cyber) world.

• This raises the need for supporting real-time and interactive work, thus opening a new frontier of research and development in this field.

Physical Deployment Model

Process Deployment Model

Articulated Private Resource Networks

• The User Controlled Light Path (UCLP) software developed by CANARIE

• Allows users to define their own packet- or switch-based network architecture including:• topology, routing, virtual routers, switches, protocols, virtual machines and

processes

• Based on the concept of many separate, concurrent and independently managed Articulated Private Networks (APN)

• Operating on top of one or more Resource network substrates across different ownership domains
