Our New President’s

Message

As a new slate of officers’ step into a new

two year term, I’d like to thank the membership for

placing their confidence in us as we embark on

another chapter in the rich history of NNSY NCMA

organization. I am also grateful for our energetic

and dedicated line of officers, Jane Ellsworth (Vice

President), Dan Adams (Treasurer), and Scott

Sikora (Secretary). A lot of work goes on behind the

scenes in support of our meetings and operations. I

encourage you to offer your appreciation to them

next opportunity you might see them.

A lot of our work is also sustained through

our committees. A great way for our membership

to provide casual involvement is to help out in one

of these venues. A little effort from each of our

membership can add up to making big difference!

At our January meeting I proposed some initiatives to help foster involvement and growth in our Chapter. Our 2014 New Initiatives are:

Fifth Wednesday Lecture Series “Real Meal” every third month “Workforce Warrior”-recognition Production

Shops Manage-Mint recognition “Caught Doing

Good” to Manager of the Year. “Buy a Brick”, walkway by Buildings 704 &

705 Leaders Helping Leaders

More will be provided on these topics in the future. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to offer feedback, insight or offer new innovations of your own! In the spirit of our organization, Thanks! Now, onward and upward!

NCMA kicked- off our new “Manage-Mint”

recognition initiative.

Our first recipient is Tom Colasurdo, Code 271. Each monthly honoree will be added to the candidate pool for

selection as NNSY 2014 NCMA Manager of the Year. Any member can nominate a manager for selection and

honorees do not have to be NCMA members. Tom is pictured (below) receiving a token package of ‘Manage-

mints’ as a way to publically show his well-deserved recognition by his peers.

NCMA Member Involvement in Shipyard MLK Day

NNSY Chapter has been invited to participate or support in numerous events and ceremonies. In January, volunteers assisted with the Dr. Martin Luther King remembrance ceremony. Members assisted with greeting, and distribution of bulletins. Past president Jimmy Broom introduced our key note speaker.

A BIG THANK-YOU TO NCMA MEMBER TOM COLASURDO

for providing the main course at our first quarterly ‘real meal’ lunch meeting. We had close to 60 members and guests in attendance! I can’t tell you how many compliments have been offered in regards to the great meal and this new approach. Well done, Tom!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR FEBRUARY “MANAGE-MINT” RECIPIENT

Randy Pleasant is currently the Top Side Zone Manager on the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, (CVN-69) for the FY13 DPIA. Randy was cited for his ability to organize work and inspire teamwork in a waterfront environment enabling his supervisors and mechanics to excel. Randy’s name will be added to the honorees list for consideration as NNSY NCMA’s Manager of the Year this December.
