Glorifying God as we make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
September 2017
Galilean Service and Fish Fry
September 24 at 5:00 p.m. our church
will again experience the moving
Galilean service that was first presented
at Lake Elaine approximately 50 years
ago. Our own Mildred Price was the
MYF director at that time. Billy
Simmons, who became a missionary, was
the first one to swim across the lake with
the cross on an inner tube and a flashlight
shining on the cross. The rest of the
youth were dressed as the disciples to do
a skit on the shore. This is a meaningful
time of worship and fellowship for our
congregation. We are thankful for the
leadership of Ardis Rittenberry Caffey as
she continues this tradition by organizing
our program. Wesley’s Warriors, along
with Lori Schuler, and others will be
providing music for us. This year, we are
incorporating our annual Fish Fry as part
of the dinner for our Galilean Service.
Folks are invited to bring side dishes to
share as we gather at Normandy Lake.
A “day use” fee for parking is collected
at the park entrance, so carpooling is
Our Worship Life Together!
Our Council of Stewards has voted unanimously to
restart the early morning worship known as
"Wellspring." They also unanimously supported the
naming of our current worship experience
“Foundation.” This comes from Ezra 3:11 "All the
people responded with a great shout when they
praised the Lord, because the foundation of the
house of the Lord was laid."
Wellspring will start back
October 1 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Fellowship Hall. We will
run for eight weeks through
November 19. Wellspring
will be "in-the-round" as if
we have gathered close
around a campfire. Jon
Brock, Lori Schuler, and I will be working to
incorporate Jim and Inge Wood, our youth, and
others through music and leadership in
worship. Holy Communion will be served each
week at Wellspring.
Foundation Worship
will continue to be
based in the traditions
of our faith and
denomination with
blended music from
the choir and
congregational hymns.
As we move into this season together, the Council of
Stewards will be promoting both our worship
experiences and will need your help in doing this.
Circle VII is creating gift bags of tea, cocoa, and
cider mixes with our worship information attached.
We are all invited to pick up several of these bags
on Sunday, September 17 and distribute them to
United Methodist Women

United Methodist
Men
The UMM will resume
their regular meetings on
Sunday, September 24 at
7:00 a.m. The Men’s
group meet every fourth Sunday in the
fellowship hall for a time of fellowship and
study. All men are invited to participate.
Beginning late-September,
the women’s Beth Moore
study, “Children of the
Day,” will begin. This is a
nine-week journey with friends covering
biblical truths and how to apply them to our
daily lives. Through the letters to the
Thessalonians, we can be encouraged by
examples of faith, love, and steadfastness of
hope as we endeavor to lead lives that are
pleasing to God. Dates and Time for the
study TBA.
To take part in this journey, please sign-up in
the Narthex on September 3, 10, and 17. The
time and day for the study will be determined
by those who are interested in participating.
After a busy Summer and Horseshow Break, we are excited to resume our Sunday evening programming! In an effort to help youth develop spiritual disciplines, learn to look for God’s action, and to help the congregation make good on the promises they made at the baptisms of these young people, UMYF will look a little different. We’re calling the series
The Fabric of Our Lives. We will examine personal testimony as proclamation of God’s faithfulness over all that was and prayer as proclamation that God is faithful over all that is and is yet to come. Joan Leichner and Nancy Reak will be helping to lead an interactive series on different types of prayers and different ways to pray, This series will be supplemented with gathering in homes hearing the faith stories of our church family.
We will kick off on September 10 @ 5pm with a special introduction to what our time together this semester will look like as well as some important need-to-know information and paperwork, so parents and youth please make plans to attend!

We have many people in our congregation
who take the time to sit and write a cheerful
note saying “thinking of you” just to let
someone know that a person remembers them
and cares. A birthday card is always
welcome no matter the age. The sweet
thought of sympathy can warm a hurting
heart.
These are tangible expressions of God’s care
for us. Yes, seeds are quietly being spread
