Overall there has been a significant change to all courses and a huge amount of time will be

needed for teachers to engage with the new syllabus and plan teaching and learning experiences

for their students. Greater collaboration between teachers across all courses will be needed due

to common assessment components. Professional learning for teachers will be required on both

new content and creating assignment or investigation-style task.

ASSESSMENT

Introduced across all courses for Prelim 2018 & HSC 2019

Year 11 - capped at 3 tasks per course

Year 12 - maximum of 4 school based assessments per course inclusive of the Trial HSC

Separate components will count as separate tasks further advice will be released throughout 2017

Reduction in formulaic, pre-prepared responses and cheating

Stricter guidelines to assure authorship of take home assessment and projects

HSC QUESTIONS

Final HSC examinations to continue.

HSC examination will continue to form 50% of student final HSC marks

Questions will be less predictable, requiring greater application of knowledge and skills

Aim to avoid the opportunity for memorising pre prepared essays etc

Mathematics will be assessed on a common scale – to compare students across courses. This will act as a disincentive for students to choose easier courses.
