  • BACKGROUND Charity predates Mary Richmond, whose work began as early as 1889( Agnew, 2004) Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation began philanthropy as early as 1990s ( Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, n.d.) Today, foundations follow an idiosyncratic strategic philanthropic approach

Strategic philanthropy is the practice of targeting a companys giving efforts around a cause or issue that simultaneously provides a direct benefit for the cause and also supports the companys core business objectives. What is Strategic Philanthropy?(SSIR) (n.d.).)

Lack of sufficient collaboration Inadequacy among some non-profits due to limited budgets, lack of expertise etc. Organizational policy to work in isolation among both foundations and non-profits Absence of the ability to scale-up programs Lack of a local office in the country of investment
