Istarted the National Church Adopt-A-School Initiative (NCAASI) to prepare urban and suburban churches across America to “rebuild their communities from the inside out” by forging partnerships with public schools for improving the lives of urban youth and families. Churches and public schools serve as centers for neighborhood activities, and more than any other institution, have a direct effect on how individuals will live and thrive in a society filled with social, health and economic difficulties. Our concept for NCAASI is comprehensive ... to implement a national faith-based strategy to address the spiritual and social needs of urban youth and families through a church and public school partnership based on the Dallas, Texas The Turn•Around Agenda program (formerly Project Turn•Around).

It is our conviction that the church, not the government, is the best social service delivery system since it is closer to the needs of people, offers the largest potential volunteer force, has facilities for impact programs, and offers a moral and spiritual frame of reference for helping people to make the right choices.

Using The Turn•Around Agenda program model, NCAASI trains and builds the capacity of churches and faith-based organizations to provide urban youth and families with “a hand-up, not a hand-out” by offering holistic, long-term solutions of meetings needs in a way that changes how people think, which ultimately determines how they live.

President, The Urban Alternative

Throughout the ages, it’s been individuals, not

governments, individuals, not politics that have

changed the course of human events. Every great

triumph, every achievement, every decision, every

spark of genius, every act of compassion, in the final

analysis comes down to the final act of the individual

like Tony Evans.

The Turn•Around Agenda is a complete program ...

This program is a beacon for Dallas. And this

program is a model for the nation.

Why NCAASI Works!Hundreds of church and public school partnerships have been established around the country through the National Church Adopt-A-School Initiative. Testimonies are pouring in from churches and faith-based organizations everywhere, which demonstrate the impact of NCAASI. Through NCAASI, these churches have begun the process of rebuilding their communities from the inside out. We believe the success of the program has everything to do with:

Comprehensive, easy-to-use program implementation manuals:Churches are able to start right away, having the necessary curriculum tools to implement successful social outreach programs.

The duplication of a local social outreach program that works and is uniquely designed for churches:Churches buy into the Dallas, Texas The Turn●Around Agenda model, which has a proven track record and offers evidence of success.

The use of public schools as the primary vehicle to serve children, youth and families in need:Church and public school partnerships have the advantage of already existing facilities and programs without creating something new.

A spiritual frame of reference for social outreach:Churches can implement effective social services without compromising the Gospel message.

• Churches Become the Best Social Service Delivery Agents • Better Equipped Churches Assuming Greater Leadership in Addressing Social Issues• Greater Community Awareness of the Church’s Mission and Ministries • Multiple Social Issues and Needs Addressed• Improved Coordination of Services and Better Use of Community Resources• Mobilization of Existing Community Institutions for Long-term Measurable Change• Better Kids, Stronger Families and Transformed Communities• Racial Reconciliation through “Good Works”

I have known Tony Evans as a friend for

long-time supporter of his spiritual and

social outreach programs. Tony’s vision

MR. NORM MILLER,

PRESIDENT, INTERSTATE BATTERIES

After attending the NCAASI conference in Charlotte, I

decided to launch a mentoring program based on your material

and training. We have already received testimonials of direct

impact. These stories blew us away. While this is what we hope

happens, we did not expect it to happen so quickly.

Your information has made this possible and the training and

professionalism have been fantastic. I often thank God for

what you are doing in helping to train churches and organizations

for serving the communities they represent.

PASTOR K. J. HILL,

THEHOPEPROJECT, RALEIGH, NC

As an Executive Director, I have attended seminars on

some of the topics covered in the NCAASI training. What was

so wonderful for me was to have “everything you would like to

know about non-profits” compiled into one training. I wish I

could have had this experience as the ministry began.

I am thankful for the generous spirit of The Urban Alternative

to share all they have learned to help others be better equipped

and successful for the Kingdom!

The benefits derived from implementing a church and public school partnership for positive social change are innumerable. As such, The Urban Alternative has identified eight areas of impact resulting from the National Church Adopt-A-School Initiative:

Page 10: The National Ministry of Dr. Tony Evans Presents...two types of training: Starting a School-based Mentoring Program and Comprehensive Social Outreach. STARTING A SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING

I am excited about the National Church Adopt-A-School Initiative and the impact it is having on communities across the country. My husband, Tony and I know firsthand the positive outcomes that come from families exercising their faith with good works. As a parent and grandparent, I am very aware of the importance that a strong family structure has on the comprehensive development of children.

That’s why The Urban Alternative seeks to build strong individuals, families, churches, and communities from a Kingdom perspective. We do this through numerous publications, radio, television and the Internet. In addition, we host an annual event that includes two conferences—the Kingdom Agenda and the First Lady Conferences that train and refresh pastors, lay leaders and senior pastors’ wives in the work of the ministry. Our Kingdom Agenda Fellowship of Churches provides a viable network for likeminded pastors that embrace the Kingdom Agenda philosophy. And, through NCAASI, we are equipping churches to strengthen families so that what a child learns during the school day is reinforced in the home.

Please contact us online or by telephone to discuss bringing the NCAASI training to your community. I also encourage you to take advantage of the wealth of resources we provide for building your ministry. Our prayer is that God will enlarge your territory as you ontinue to seek first His Kingdom. As Tony often says, the best is yet to come.

“Hello, my name is Michael Barnes. I am a 12th grade student at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, TX. I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. My mother and I moved to Texas when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans three years ago. We came here wearing only the clothes on our back. Our family and friends were left behind because we had to leave in a hurry. We came directly to Dallas scared, angry and just unsure about what was going to happen to us. I was messed up and I wanted to give up. The only person I had was my mother who tried to be strong for me although I knew she was in pain. I have no father because he abandoned me as a baby. In fact, I’ve never met my father. Eventually I enrolled in a school and my mother found a job. But, I had a hard time adjusting because when you leave everything you know to come to a place you don’t know, how can you adjust ? On my first day of school, I met with a counselor. She recommended that I join the Project Turn•Around mentoring program. I met Mr. Moses who ran the program. He tried to get me to talk, but I just couldn’t. He did something I didn’t expect. He got up and hugged me. I was thinking what is this man doing? Then all of a sudden I realized that he just cared. You can tell he just cared. So I was able to open up with him. Everyday, he checked on me while I was in class. He made sure that I stayed out of trouble. I eventually trusted him. Mr. Moses connected me to a mentor when I was ready. My new mentor, Kenneth Embry, met me and my mother. Then he began visiting me twice a week during school hours. He talked to me about my life and my plans for the future. He encouraged me to stay strong and not give up. Because of Project Turn•Around, Mr. Moses and Mr. Ken, I was able to deal with the anger of not having my father or a positive male in my life. Now, I am surrounded by positive males. I am still adjusting, but now I am making good grades and I look forward to going to college next year. Thank you, Dr. Tony Evans for creating Proj-ect Turn•Around. Now I am most honored to present to you, the First Lady of the United States, Mrs. Laura Bush.”
