Dear Mu Tau Sisters, Welcome to a new program/biennium. Summer has come and gone with a new school year beginning. The summer was filled with many new and exciting things. We attended the 87th State Convention for TSO in Frisco, Texas and Area 1 Workshop in Tyler. On another note, I appreciate the confidence you've placed in me to lead our chapter for the next two years. Thanks to all the committees, officers, and others who helped identify ways to make our chapter stronger. I'm so impressed by the dedication of so many members and what they have accomplished. The main purpose of our society is to support and encourage wom-en in education. Mu Tau is a very strong chapter and has been since its formation. It is an amazing and awe-inspiring to see it in action to-day and I'm so excited to be a part of our chapter. The 87th State Convention was in Frisco, Texas at the Embassy Suites and Convention Center on June 23-25, 2016. Mu Tau Chapter had 7 amazing members represented. We attended on June 22 to wit-ness the initiation of Gloria Campos as a State Honorary mem-ber. Thanks goes to Jean Robinson for nominating Gloria. Mu Tau sisters attended a reception honoring 50 and 50+ year members. Our precious Jean Robinson was honored for her years of service and ded-ication to Delta Kappa Gamma and Mu Tau. We love you. The Area 1 Workshop was attended by 9 Mu Tau members in Tyler on July 30. The workshop was very informative and enlightening. We enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant before arriving home. Our September meeting in on September 19th. The program will be our Birthday Celebration. Mark your calendars to ensure your attend-ance for this important meeting. I promise it will be exciting and fun. The meeting starts at 4:45 at Tri County Library. Hope to see you there.

MU TAU CHAPTER MEETING DELTA KAPPA GAMMA
MAY 16, 2016
The May regular meeting of the Mu Tau chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was held at the Tri-County Library. The meeting was called to order by President Janice Sutton at 5:00 p.m., with recording secretary Monica Fortenberry in attendance. There were eighteen members in attendance, two prospective members, April Pass and Sheila Koskelin, and Jeanette Rhyan, our program presenter.
Beverly Hart presented the Meaningful Moment, which included sharing an article from the March/April DKG News and a poem “The Future in You” from a DKG Collegial Exchange.
The minutes received in the May Mu Tauker were approved as printed. The treasurer’s report was read by chapter treasurer Bever-ly Hart, indicating a balance of $707.74 and $613.92 in the Scholarship Fund. The report will be filed for audit.
Correspondence received from ASTEF thanking Mu Tau for our donation to the 1st Annual ASTEF Giving Day and for supporting ASTEF was shared.
Old business began with a reminder of the upcoming state convention to be held in Frisco. President Sutton encouraged members to attend the initiation ceremony for Gloria Campos as an honorary state member of Delta Kappa Gamma, so that our chapter would have a good representation. Ms. Campos was nominated by chapter member Jean Robinson. The ceremony will be held Wednesday at the convention.
Members were also informed that Jean Robinson will be honored at the Birthday Luncheon at the state convention for having been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for fifty years.
President Sutton also reminded members of the Area Workshop which will be held on July 30th in Tyler. She said information about the workshop was on the handout, and members planning to attend need to give Beverly Hart their $10.00 registration fee. She also announced that there will be a Chapter Officer Orientation, but that a date has not been set yet.
Jean Robinson introduced our program presenter, Jeanette Rhyan, DKG State Headquarters Committee Chairman. Jeanette pre-sented a fun and informative Founder’s Day program by sharing a song she wrote about the DKG founders to the melody of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Members participated by signing along with the help of printed lyrics. President Sutton thanked Jean-ette and said that we would be making a donation to ASTEF in her honor for presenting the program.
Following the program, Kathy Clardy, Ceremonies Chairman, installed our new 2016-2018 Mu Tau officers. New officers are as follows: Barbara Jedlicka, president; Mindy Marder, 1st Vice President; Libby Horton, 2nd Vice President; Beverly Hart, Recording Secretary, Sherri Purselley, Corresponding Secretary; and Janice Sutton, Treasurer and member of the Executive Board.
There were several chapter recognitions beginning with the presentation of the President’s Bar from Janice Sutton to Barbara Jed-licka. Members with Perfect Attendance were recognized which included Nancy McDonald, Sherri Purselley, and Jean Robinson. It was announced that member Judy Versace had retired from Eustace ISD. Janice Sutton presented Jean Robinson with a pin in honor of her achievement of fifty years of DKG membership. Other members recognized for Mu Tau membership milestones were: Lavonne Dennis–37 years; B.J. Williams–36 years; Janice Sutton–35 years; DeAnna Thompson–22 years; Janice Beasley–18 years; Beverly Hart, Sandy Hale, Mindy Marder, and Nancy McDonald–17 years; Libby Horton, Barbara Jedlicka, Jan Jones, and Melody Stephenson–16 years; Bickie Roberts–15 years; Kathy Clardy and Felecia Erwin–12 years; Monica Fortenberry and Judy Versace-7 years; and Judy Sullivan–4 years.
The Chapter Achievement Award was given to Nancy McDonald. Nancy is a charter member and has served as president, vice-president, parliamentarian and Nominating Committee member. President Sutton described Nancy as her “go-to-person” and a “worker bee”.
Door prizes were awarded to Mindy Marder and April Pass. The meeting was adjourned with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song at 5:58 p.m.

Leadership Seminar 2017 By Janice Sutton
An exciting opportunity awaits Delta Kappa Gamma members in Texas, including members of our own Mu Tau Chapter. The TSO Leadership Seminar will be held the weekend of February 17-19, 2017, in the DFW area. This event is held every two years, and approximately 30 DKG mem-bers from around the state are chosen to participate.
The seminar is an exciting weekend filled with some of the best information and training you will ever receive. Participants learn how to be more effective in every area of their lives—both per-sonal and professional. It is an opportunity to meet and have fun with other DKG sisters from Tex-as. Everyone leaves the weekend feeling energized (although tired, maybe!) and ready to take on their responsibilities with renewed confidence.
Our own Jean Robinson was one of the lucky ladies chosen to participate in the very first seminar held in 1993, and I was a participant in 2003. Both of us would be happy to answer any questions or help with the application process for anyone who is interested.
I encourage all Mu Tau sisters to strongly consider applying for the upcoming seminar. The application is available on the TSO homepage (www.dkgtexas.org) and can be submitted electroni-cally. A recommendation from the chapter president is also needed. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2016. Remember that the seminar is held only every two years, so you don’t want to miss this opportunity now. Let’s have some representatives from Mu Tau in the Leadership Seminar Class of 2017!
