SCHOOL COUNSELLING SERVICE:School counselling service provides access to information, that pupils seek for further

education …but school counsellors focus mainly on working with talented pupils or pupils with

special needsFacts:School counselling service performs only 2 lectures annually in the last two grades

(8.+9.) about vocations and labour marketSchool counselling service provides every pupil at least one interview before they

finish basic education. Participation is optional

EMPLOYMENT SERVICE OF SLOVENIA :Lectures for primary school pupils and their parents on conditions in the labour market,

on the factors influencing career decisions and so forth.

In the 8th grade ESS organizes aptitude testing of pupils’ abilities (GATB – General Aptitude Test Battery)

In the 9th grade vocational questionnaire is administered at schools by ESS

Team meetings – school counsellor, teacher, ESS counsellor

- evaluation of pupils’ choices- further counselling at ESS to pupils and their parents (optional)

Population testing of school pupils in their penultimate year through ability testing as a tool in deciding on a career, including interpretation of results by school and individual interpretations for interested parents and pupils at the Slovenian Employment Service

ESS counsellors are also present at school job fairs

Lectures for school vocational counsellors about the demand and supply on the labour market

Why is this network efficient?

1. Direct contact with pupils and with their parents

2. Multiple information regarding pupils – aptitude, grades, observations

3. Detecting “critical cases” and providing services for them (acting preventive)

4. Consequently there are less drop-outs

5. Sharing the knowledge regarding the labour market, providing additional guidance for interested pupils

6. Computer supported tests – broadening pupils’ interests
