The Office of Special Eventsresidents and visitors along our iconic BroadStreet and Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

2018 quickly became a year of celebration forour City. On February 22nd the worldrenowned Reading Terminal Marketcelebrated its 125th Birthday.

In June our Mayor Jim Kenney was seencelebrating the federal judge ruling affirmingPhiladelphia as a Sanctuary City.

The Parkway District celebrated the 100th

Birthday of our beloved and most iconic streetin Philadelphia–the Benjamin FranklinParkway.

Now we are celebrating the holidays, something Philadelphia also does very well. The newly renovated Love Park is once againhosting the annual Christmas Village, wherefamilies from all over are flocking to shopartisan crafts from around the world.

As each year comes to a close, we learn toappreciate and celebrate the unique makeupof our City, its residents and culture. How canwe top 2018? I guess we’ll find out.

At the end of each year, the Office of SpecialEvents looks back and thinks, “How will we evertop this?” How can we top the 2015 WorldMeeting of Families? How can we top the 2016Democratic National Convention? How can wetop the 2017 NFL Draft? How can we top the2018 Philadelphia Eagles Super BowlCelebration? And somehow this great city neverdisappoints. Our office has no plans on slowingdown any time soon, and 2018 is continued proofof that.

We begin and end 2018 in the same fashion ofunified celebration, for different reasons ofcourse. For the first time in franchise history, thePhiladelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Champions –a sentence many Philadelphians never imaginedthey would be saying (we are not including NFLChampionships pre-1970).

From the moment the time expired in the 4th

quarter with 41-33 on the scoreboard, our officewent into overdrive to plan and execute thelargest celebration our city has ever seen – inunder 72 hours. With the help of our PoliceDepartment, Fire Department, StreetsDepartment, Parks & Recreation, Public Propertyand all the other City Departments, we safelyhosted millions of longtime Eagles fans, families,
